Hi all!

I've just started lurking around on the board here. There's so much to know!

As background: My husband and I have been having discussions for the past year about our upcoming vacation and me wanting to go to Scotland. I've pretty much memorized the map of Scotland, the trains and planes to and from Scotland, the last known siting of Nessie (j/K), castles, music fests, midges, etc. Let's get some haggis, I'm ready. As chief planner and organizer, it's important that I've got the details down.

So I'm minding my own business online and start talking about the Adventures by Disney new dates being released, and the DH comes over and starts reading over my shoulder and says that London/Paris one sounds like fun. We should do that. And I say, um, you know that Scotland is really no where near London, right? And, as I understand it, they pretty much speak English in England so I'm not sure we need a guided tour. But he's excited by the whole thing. And as he usually leaves all the home stuff to me, I think this is the first opinion he's expressed about our vacations plans pretty much ever in these ten years so I've decided to go his way on it. I wish I could put all my Scotland knowledge from my brian on to a USB memory stick for later use though!

Now, if he gets to pick London/Paris, I get to pick the Disneyland Paris add on! Fair's fair after all. That's where I need help! There's just so much. It just seems like SO much! I've got WDW memorized, but for some reason my mind has just been blown by all the info.

What's really not helping is there's no good book that I can find here for me to look through and brain storm. (because, you know, they encourage us to stay home here LOL) I don't know if DLP has the channel on the TV that's nonstop with info on the parks. Here they have this very perky, ever so slightly annoying (probably because I'm not five) but I'm sure she's very nice, girl Stacy that runs through the must sees at WDW.

It got me to thinking that we only have a day when it's all said and done at DLP, so what would be the top five things to really get a flavor of it. Not even rides, but what are the top five things that you do that make you say, aaaahhh, now this is my Disney Magic home.

Like for me my Top 5 things that make my trip to the World complete:

1: Walking down Main Street to the castle and then going over to the Rose Garden to see if they've planted anything new.

2: Big Thunder and Splash Mts are next

3: Dole Whip, YYYUUUMMM, and over to Philharmagic

4: A little bit of poking around in the shops waiting for:

5: Spectro/Wishes. Perfect end to a perfect day.

I was thinking if some folks would tell me their DLP Top 5, maybe it would help narrow down my focus a little. I know we can't do it all, but I would like to find the magic as much as I can. Is there really a dragon in the castle?? :scared1: That sounds so cool! LOL

Thanks!!

Hi stenogoddess and welcome to DLP DIS board :wave2:
We are a friendly bunch here so please join in on any other thread or if you have a number of questions then just start a new thread for each :goodvibes

If you have not had a look yet, DLP posting rules are here, DIS posting guidelines can be found here and details regarding help on signatures here

Glad you stepped out of lurkdom ;).. and yes we have a dragon underneath Sleeping Beauty's castle :goodvibes

My top 5 would probably be:

1. Taking a trip on the railroad all the way around to discoveryland

2. A trip on space mountain or two (or if I don't feel like going upside down, Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast)

3. Walking through fantasyland and through onto pirates of the caribbean once or twice, maybe three times

4. Whilst still singing Yo Ho a pirates life for me, a walk to big thunder mountain to ride once or twice

5. And a visit to the phantom manor

Theres usually little bits inbetween, but they're the major 5:thumbsup2

Its so difficult to think of only my top 5, everytime I think that I have the definitive list I remember something else.

Here are are what I think are my top 5 (for the minute anyway)
1) Big Thunder Mountain
2) Pirates of the Caribbean followed by dinner in the Blue Lagoon Restaurant
3) It's a Small World - again, again and again......
4) Phantom Manor
5) Fantillusion (though this is not always on)

(I don't know if you will have time to visit the Studio if you are only there for one day but "Animagique" is brilliant if you do.)

Hi there!

I know how you must feel - I am hoping to go to WDW at some point but just looking at all the info on it blows my mind!

To reassure you somewhat, DLP is incredibly compact, and while not 'petit', it is certainly smaller than its american cousin.

Also - it's so nice to hear someone being enthusiastic about Scotland, and I hope you make it over here :D

My Top 5 (great idea by the way) -

1) Walking down Main Street, seeing the castle (which really is spectacular) and grabbing a cup of coffee and a cookie in the Gibson Girl, sitting outside and people watching - and sometimes catching the parade too :)

2) Catching the Tarzan show. I'm not sure what time of year you're going, but if it is when this is on - do not miss! I get tingles everytime...it's beautiful, and the Phil Collins music even works really well!!

3) Cinemagique at the Studios Park - I think this is a bit like the Great Movie Ride, but you really need to see this a few times to appreciate all the references and facial expressions...Gets me every single time.

4) Having a drink in the bar in Disneyland Hotel or Sequoia Lodge - both gorgeous bars with even more gorgeous cocktails!! Really nice at lunch or after walking around all day

5) oh, just the whole atmosphere of the place! I love the music in each different land, and while when I was younger Fantasyland was my favourite, i love every land in different ways now. the detail everywhere is amazing, the sights, the sounds, I love the French atmosphere of the place...and Space Mountain Mission 2 is MUCH better than the WDW one, so I have heard..!!

so, don't worry you have loads of time to learn all about it - have u tried ebay for some DLP books??

If it's just going to be one day, I would limit myself to Disneyland Park, the one with the castle.

My 5 favourite things there, in no particular order:

- Walk down Main Street and eat at Walt's
- See the Tarzan show
- See the parade, it smells ;) Fantillusion, if it's on, is also GREAT!
- See the Lion King show. In the beginning, I didn't like it at all, but after seeing it some times, I love it!
- Go visit the dragon, he's unique!

To reassure you somewhat, DLP is incredibly compact, and while not 'petit', it is certainly smaller than its american cousin.
The Disneyland Park is actually larger than the Magic Kingdom :goodvibes but lots of people think that because WDW has more parks the MK must be larger ;)

VISIT SCOTLAND FIRST AND GET THE PLANE FROM EDINBURGH TO PARIS...... SORTED!!!:thumbsup2

YOU WON'T REGRET VISITING SCOTLAND!!!!!;)

I will give this some serious thought and post my Top 5.

Right Lauren, here goes.

1) Walk down Main Street catching the first glimpse of the Castle which is sooooooo beautiful :cloud9: then exploring the upstairs gallery which has stained glass windows and tapestries telling the story of Sleeping Beauty, then visiting the dragon who lives underneath the Castle.

2) Ride Big Thunder Mountain which is situated on an island and has to be reached by an underground tunnel.

3) Walk through Adventureland stopping to admire the view of Skull Rock, Captain Hook's ship and the Pirates of the Caribbean fort in the distance before riding POTC and dining in the Blue Lagoon.

4) Spend time looking for hidden Mickeys and park secrets.

5) If summer season spend the evening riding Big Thunder Mountain in the dark and watching Fantillusion and Wishes. If they are not on, spend it riding BTM in the dark, then shopping and ......... more shopping! :)
