What's your pet(s) name, and how did you come up with it?

I have two dogs -- Annabelle and Loki. Annabelle was already named when we adopted her. We call her Annie and it fits her perfectly. Her registered name is Little Devil with Angel Eyes. Loki is named after the God of Mischief and it's perfect for him. He is still full of mischief at 10 years old.

Duke, our dachshund - it was the name the breeder actually had given him. When we met him for the first time, the name just seemed to fit.

This is Voodoo. She's a lab shepherd mix. We adopted her from a shelter when she was a puppy. She was part of a litter of either 16 or 17 puppies. As an adult, she's a little over 70 lbs. While she's starting to gray with age, she is solid black. That's how she got her name. She's so dark that she's impossible to see in the dark and really difficult to photograph without a ton of light to highlight her features and the shine in her coat. So, dark...mysterious...kind of bewitching = Voodoo.

We have two black kitties... they are Luna and Betelgeuse. We went for a space theme. BUT, my son (we got the cats when he was freshly 5) misspoke and called Betelgeuse BEEF by accident. We thought it was hilarious so Betelgeuse is always called Beef. :rotfl: So, we have Luna the Tuna and Beef -- they're surf and turf. ;)

Our kids named our torti cat "Lucky" because we bought her for $20 from a sketchy couple on Craiglist. We expected her to have behavioral issues or something because they seemed eager to rid themselves of her but she is the most well-behaved, lovable little lady.

Hei Hei is our younger male cat. He is poly-dactyl and had these HUGE paws on skinny little chicken legs and we were in our Moana era at the time. I wanted to name him Boatsnack, but my husband said that was dumb so we named him Hei Hei.

Our dogs are named Luna Lovegood and Bellatrix Lestrange, One is aloof and lighter colored (Luna) and one is moody/black (Bellatrix...Black is her maiden name).

I named our childhood dog. Well not really a child , because my sister just left for college and I was in the 9th grade. My mom who never really liked dogs says one Sunday morning let’s go to the pound. My dad and I were shocked. So we went to Washington county PA humane society. I want a German Shepherd that I was going to name Fritz. But my mom found a scared sheltie mix by some puppies. He was super timid. That was the dog that my mom wanted. He had a hold on him that was up later that afternoon. My dad had to go to work that afternoon. So my mom calls the shelter and ask if the dog was still there. He was! So my mom is like we are coming for him. So we hit up our local Kmart for some dog stuff and head out. We get the dog. I spent the drive home in the backseat trying to calm a shaking dog as mom drove us home.

The Steelers were playing the Oilers and I was scrolling through the Sunday paper for name ideas. Houston had a running back named Spencer Tillman. I who was a big fan of Princess Di suggested Spencer for the dog and my mom agreed. She wanted to spell like Spenser For Hire, but I was like no - like Lady Di. We had Spencer all the way through my high school, college and couple of years afterwards. There are still probably more pictures of that dog then me and my sister in my parents house..

Our Shiba Inu is Ronin which means a samurai without a master or something like that because he’s a Japanese beeed and we adopted him after his owner died the day after getting him. Our Shih Tzu is Skippy because he kind of skips when he runs. Our cats are Nala after the Lion king and Toby just because my DD liked the name. Used to have an English springer spaniel named Cleo after cleopatra because she thought she was the queen but she’s passed.

Well, to be fair, behavioral issues with a Tortie are relative. 😁 Mine is also pretty good - when she wants to be anyway.

Also, polys rule!

Our 11 year old yorkie is named Rose. We got her when she was about 2 months old. The first time we took her out to potty she went right by my Rose girl statue in my rose garden. She will come to Rosie, Rose or puppy. More often than not, we call her puppy.

Our current crop of crazy boys, all adopted post-covid:

Babu Frik, husband's favorite. Pic to the left. Named picked by hubby because BF was so cute.

Dug. We thought he loved us so much even though we were strangers. It turned out he was hungry.

Monkey. That was the name when he came to me, and I liked it. Hubby tried to change it until I got mad.

MeowMix. Our poor, half-starved boy. He meowed and meowed the first few days we saved him from his neglectful owner and the outside. That's how he got his name. It really should have been Joe Pesci because that little plug of a cat doesn't back down from anybody.

The dude in my profile pic is Salty. He is not Salty. He is very sweet. We did not name him. He was my grandmother's cat and when we "inherited" him. He's a fancy purebred snowshoe. He's got papers and everything.

The other one is your standard black cat. The kids named her Layla. I have no idea why.

Wow...all the influence of the 60s TV shows....Eddy lives next door and he has the roar of Eddy's pet under the stairs ....he is a standard size Shar Pei but the roar of a Labrador
