What's your opinion?

I think I've created a monster in 4 of my DDs friends. My DD(11) wanted to have a sleepover for her b-day and decided to introduce her closest friends to scrapping. Well, they absolutely love it.

Here's my concern -- they all want to buy big expensive scrapbooks. My DD has one, but she's been scrapping w/me for a couple years now. Wouldn't it be better to have her friends make smaller, themed books than have a large book with all sorts of stuff in it? I just saw the Rollabind method at Archivers today -- do you think that's a better way to start or should I just let them buy the bigger, expandable books? I'd hate to see them spend their money on something that they think they're really going to get into and then end up with an empty, unused and expensive album.

Target sells 12x12 albums for $9.99. It would be worth looking into. Mine actually has a couple choices, such as a black leather one, a rust colored cloth, etc...That way they get the size for a more reasonable price. HTH!

Help them decide whether they are going to do post bound or strap hinge (my DD chose based on what I use and most of my Girl Scouts who weren't already into it chose based on what my co-leader and I use). Then have them start with just pages/page protectors. Once they have completed enough pages to make a book worthwhile they can move into a book.

Suggest they check Target, Hobby Lobby, Michaels, etc for an album of that type when they are on sale. They could also do this if they want to start with a book. Most of the girls in our troop did this and were able to purchase books in the $10 range.

I have found through experience with my own girls that the pioneer top loading albums are easiest for them to use. That way if they want to skip around they just put the pages in the protectors and can move them whenever needed.

Also, they are usually on sale at Joannes for like 7.49 each. Don't kow when the next sale on them will be. But they are a nice 12x12 album to use.

you should have them pick out a small album,(photo size?) and scrap tiny pages of their friendship together. girls love making minature things and this would be the perfect way to rember their good times and have fun doing it. since the album is small, you don't have to spend a lot on embellishments and paper. one sheet of paper cold probably fir three pages! hope this helps!
