In the past, I've been able to find great rates at National, but now....OMG! Rates have gone sky high.

The best rates I could find were at Dollar using the KISS2 code - significant savings compared to National/Alamo/Budget.

I've never rented from Dollar before, so I'm hoping you can tell me what I can expect. Is their counter AT the airport, just like National? Is is easy or a hassle? What kind of car should I expect for a compact (they say a Neon, but I'm guessing they have other 'compacts' as well).

Thanks for your help!!

Well i hate to say it but they are ALL THE SAME hidden fee scare tactics to pay for extras .

What are you going to do they all have what you need a car or van or whatever.

I haven't used one yet that didn't try to pull something over.

I have a Dollar rental in 2 weeks because of the price .

I just make sure I pay by credit card and note and ask for a copy of any disputs .I take some pics of the car with my phone (also because I forget what I have and now I have a pic and the plate number).I then just let my credit card comp take it up and they are real good at this they set their fruad unit after them I know because I recieved calls from them after the fact.

Like trying to charge my company for damage to a car that I had a picture of it just didn't really show at check out but when blown up it was there. They then sent a bill for lost of service and they were still renting the car out

I used Dollar in Orlando in March, and I was very pleasantly surprised! I had a special rate that I booked through SWA, I think it was about $119 for the week. This was on the cheapest class of car, they said it would be like a Neon. The counter is right there at MCO with all the other car rental counters. Of course the lady tried to upsell me telling me that the car would be VERY small, I said that's ok, it was just me, DD7 and one suitcase. I mean, how much room did we need? So I declined all the 'extras' and headed out to the parking lot across the way... they give me my key and a space number, we are walking closer and closer and is that? yes! it is! parked in our space is a brand spankin new PT Freakin' Cruiser!! We noticed during our trip a heck of a lot of identical blue PT's, and the Dollar lot was full of them, so this must be one of their economy cars.

I was very pleasantly surprised and will not hesitate to use Dollar next time - not only were they far & away the cheapest in town, but we had a very cute little cool car too.

Make sure you sign up for their Express program. This can save you a significant amount of time in the airport. It's kind of like fastpass where you get to jump to the front of the line to get your car. Depending on what day and time you arrive, the lines can be quite long. This will definitely cut down on that wait.

I rent from Dollar 90% of the time I travel. Never had a real problem. Their counter/cars/drop-off are all right in the airport. More than half the time I request a compact car, I get actually get the next bigger car (Cirrius?). The Neons are now being replaced with Calibers. I like the Calibers better than Neons, but some people are a bit paranoid leaving their luggage in hatchbacks and would rather have something with a trunk.

Do join Dollar Express. It's free. At MCO, you basically get a "fastpass" (you stand in a special line and get treated first). At many other airports, you skip lines altogether. And, best of all, you answer all the insurance questions on line so you don't have to deal with pushy salespeople.

I agree....sign up for the Express program!!!! We just got back last week and having that card saved us at least a half hour of waiting in line. We had a great experience renting with Dollar and wouldn't hesitate using them again. They didn't give us a hard time about the insurance but that could be b/c there was a long line behind us. Their counter is right at the terminal right next to National/Alamo etc.

Does Dollar charge for an additional driver?

I've rented from Dollar before. It's been awhile but I don't recall any problems. I have a reservation with them this year for November. They were significantly cheaper than the other rental companies when I used the Orlando Magic Card code from the mousesavers site. It's a long time till November and prices might change, but for now that's what I'm going with. :car:

According to their website, Dollar does charge for the additional driver. I've been looking at the rates using the KISS2 code, also (Minvan), but paying for the addditional driver brings the total up to most of the other rental car rates.

I've used Dollar in the past too and thought it wasn't bad. I agree with the pp to get the express pass or whatever it's called. I didn't on our last trip and ended up waiting in line forever...then I had to wait for my car. I wasn't too upset as it was just me and my then 18 mo DS and we really were not in a time crunch.

We rented an intermediate and got a Ford Taurus - a very nice car. Comfortable to take 3-4 adults and 1 "infant" to the parks in.

They do use tactics to try and get you to buy the extra insurance, but I think all rental agencies do...easy $$$!

They are located in the airport and when picking up your vehicle it is just a short walk into the garage. The attendant even helped me with my luggage on the walk to my car.

I've had very positive experiences there and would recommend them!

Good luck!

Dollar is a pretty no frills company, but they have allways been kind to me. They will of course do the hard sell on the insurance and try to get you to upgrade, but heck, they've got to survive too! Most of Dollars cars are Chrysler products, but sometimes you will find a GM or Ford mixed in also.
