I am currently enrolled in a history of art class and i have been learning alot about art recently and i thought it might be interesting to see what kinds of painting different people liked. So if you want to post your 1 or 2 favorite paintings.
I have 2. My first is "The Desperate Man" by Courbet. I recently learned about Courbet and when I saw this picture I just fell in love with it.

The Birth of Venus

I know this is DW MeanLaureen's. Master Bedroom by Andrew Wyeth.

I'll have to think about mine.

I love Andrew Wyeth's Evening at Kuerners
and most anything else by him.

I live in the Brandywine Valley where Wyeth is from, so his paintings are so much like home to me

I like "In the Meadow" and "The Umbrellas" by Renoir

I like Vermeer's Girl with a Pearl Earring. (I think that's the title!) Anybody know how to post it?

Oh, goodness, I'll have to go all the way back to 1979 and "Survey of Art History" at UNC-CH. The artist was Fragonard, I think, and it was a gorgeous painting of a woman in a swing. Maybe it was even called "Woman in a Swing." I just loved it.

The Wyeth exhibit currently at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta is fantastic, by the way, if you get a chance to see it!! Well, it was current as of MLK weekend - not sure of the end date.

I love Claude Monet's Water Lillies such a cool painting.
I really love Masterbedroom too.
Ever since I saw the Girl with the Pearl Earring movie I love that painting too.

I'm sure what all that says about me. But I really love impressionist painting. Don't like Picasso at all. OH ya know who else I love is Bob Timberlake.

Monets "Bordighera"

But this has been my very favorite since I first saw it in high school:

Van Gogh's "Starry Night" has been my favorite painting for as long as I can remember. I actually bought a copy of it in the France pavillion in Epcot a few years back and it now hangs in my apartment. :)

Dali's "Persistance of Memory"

Seurat's "La Grande Jatte"

Starry Night was the first one that came to my mind. I also like the one that's a vase of Sunflowers by someone... and the picnic one.... I would not ring in on Jeopardy during the ART category! :)

Even though my mom is an artist and has taught art, and though I love to do art, I never had an appreciation for the "famous" works until Mom and I visited the National Gallery in London. WOW!!! Now I can't get enough. The Hay Wain by John Constable is one of my favorites:

I also love most of Claude Monet's works, anything by Mary Cassatt, Renoir, Pissaro, ok, just about any of the Impressionists.

This is my favorite Cassatt painting. I have a picture of my children standing under it at the National Gallery in Washington, DC:

I'm a huge Degas fan...Pretty much any of them. I'm also a big fan of The Last Supper (as a side note, a church in Toledo, Spain actually has this painting as a set of statues above the entrance. BEAUTIFUL!)

Oh, boy ... just one!? No way! I will give you my 3 favorites in no particular order:
