EDITED to add... this was always in my grandparents house when I was a kid, then was in my parents house when I was a teen. It's a sentimental favorite

Oh, goodness, I'll have to go all the way back to 1979 and "Survey of Art History" at UNC-CH. The artist was Fragonard, I think, and it was a gorgeous painting of a woman in a swing. Maybe it was even called "Woman in a Swing." I just loved it.

The Wyeth exhibit currently at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta is fantastic, by the way, if you get a chance to see it!! Well, it was current as of MLK weekend - not sure of the end date.
yep i learned about him too. here that painting it.
Fragonard's "The Swing"

Bumping up for the morning crowd... I love seing all these wonderful works of art! :sunny:

My daughter's finger paintings. That's the extent of my art knowledge. I'm so uncultured.

cupid and psyche at the cleveland museum of art! Cupid looks so ornery. I would post it, but they are nekkid!

story behind the painting
Cupid and Psyche

Jacques Louis David (French, 1748-1825). 1817, oil on canvas; 184.2 x 241.6 cm.

Psyche was so beautiful that even the goddess Venus flew into a jealous rage and sent her son Cupid to make Psyche fall in love with the most despicable man she could find. But Cupid himself fell in love with Psyche and brought her to his palace. The painting shows Cupid leaving at dawn so that the sleeping Psyche could never know his identity. Painted while David was in exile in Brussels, the work is a departure from his earlier moralizing pictures. The cool, idealized bodies are as sculptural as Neoclassical sculpture from the same period. Yet the eroticism of the young lovers and Cupid impish grin give the scene a startling human quality.

Really, anything by Paul Gauguin and Mary Cassatt

Another vote here for "Persistence of Memory."

Cafe At Night by Van Gogh

Great subject!

I like Las Meninas by Velasquez. I have a print of it hanging at home. I also like paintings by El Greco, but I don't know if I would hang them. I really like Starry Night by Van Gogh & have been thinking of getting a copy of it.

My all time favorite:Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte by Georges Seurat

I love Degas, any Degas. I also love Starry Night and I love love love Blue Boy and Pinkie. I used to spend hours sitting between them just turning back and forth. I'm not really sure what it is about them that makes them so wonderful to me but I spent a lot of time in my teenage years at the Huntington just taking them in.

I also like a lot of the current fantasy artists, Michael Parkes being my favorite.

I like many styles and time periods and standing in front of the really old stuff just puts me in absolute awe. I'm the girl you see crying in front of paintings and wonder if she's crazy :crazy2:
