What's your favorite items on San Angel Inn menu?

Plato Mexicano.....definitely.

Delicious!

Hi jennymouse! The last time we ate there I had the Plato Mexicano.
It was pretty good. Dh had the nachos, though, and they were great! It was so much that it could have easily fed us both, and that was a lunch serving. I remember that the churros weren't very good, though. They came with dipping sauces, but they were hard as if they had been over microwaved. The churros at the carts are far, far better than what we were served there.
Next time, I'm getting the nachos. :)

I've gotten the Plato Mexicano both times we've had dinner there. It's a little different from lunch -- I'm not sure you get steak at lunch time. When we were there in July, I told my dh that I felt like such a gringo ordering that again, that I was going to ask the server for a suggestion. I did and he suggested the Plato Mexicano!! Dh said he was sure it was what was recommended to all the gringos! Next time, I'd just go ahead and order it, though -- it was very good. One of my teens has gotten the appetizer nachos for his meal both times, and he loved them.

I love their Mole sauce that they serve over chicken. I usually ask if they will make me a plate of chicken enchiladas with Mole sauce(spicy unsweetened chocolate sauce). They always have to ask the kitchen if they will do it, but they have always accomodated me. I also like their fried plantains (kind of like a red banana). I think it would great if you could order those as a side. I've never asked but have had them served on the side of a few of the entrees I've ordered there. Please don't order tacos. San Angel has very unique meats and fish that you won't find prepared at your local Mexican chain.

My favorite meal is the Chicken Mole Pablano. The chocolate sauce is so good.

Just a warning. My Dh and I loved it there ! We shared a plate because it is sooo much food!!!

My Ds hated it! he's 4 and very picky. The chicken strips they gave him were awful. Very greasy and very little chicken. He also complained about the volcano and the restaruant is very dark. I would go again in a heartbeat-without DS!

The queso fundido appetizer is yummy. I wouldn't go to San Angel Inn without getting it. :)

I totally agree w/TigerBear. The Queso Fundido appy is fantastic!I like the margaritas, too (or does that go w/o saying?).

I think I'll try the chicken with the mole sauce, sounds interesting...I'm assuming it's not sweet...rich is okay. I think my DD28 would like the Plato Mexicano, sounds more like the Mexican she's used to and she's not very adventurous. Would the Plato be enough to share with DGD7?

Oh and we'll do the appy everyone is suggesting too.

Sounds like I'm placing my order, doesn't it?;)

I think the girls, well, all of us, will love the atmosphere there! I can't wait to go!

the MARGARITAS...lol!

I like the Plato Mexicano, too!
The servings are large, so sharing is possible, but I have always managed to clean my plate by myself!
DD likes the cheese quesadilla on the kid's menu!

We ate there at dinner last year. I had the first entree on the menu - some beef filet dish. I still have dreams about it, it was so good. I also tried some of my husband's chicken mole which was quite good too.

The thing that was nice about the beef dish was that the beef was well aged. There was really nothing that unusual about the dish, just one of the best pieces of meat I've ever eaten.

Re: the kid's menu. The coating on the chicken fingers was a little more like the thick coating on fried chicken than most places. But, my children (5 and 2 at the time) seemed fine about it.

DH and I love the atmosphere. We don't even mind the wait because of the great shopping opportunities in the market. DH loves the food here, but I only go for the ambience and to please his palate...I don't like hot spicy food and even when I ordered the most bland menu item (as recommended by the waiter) it was still "painful" going down!

The Queso Fundido appetizer with strawberry margaritas. And then as a chaser, the layered margaritas outside the pavillion. Fiesta!!!

Plato Mexicano. My husband and son (14) ordered tacos al carbon, and our daughter (11 at the time) ordered a kids taco meal (or maybe it was a burrito--??). We all loved it as usual.

It seems I'm stuck in a rut though--I always order the same thing. The Mole dish wasn't on the lunch menu. I had planned to give this a whirl during our visit and didn't see it when we were there. I've since tasted that sauce in a Detroit area authentic Mexican restaurant (although the server admitted it wasn't as spicy as it should be in the interest of pleasing the majority--he was right, it wasn't spicy).

We love San Angel and the cantina for a quick meal--don't even get me started on the Fiesta margs--major Yum!

Used to be Chile Rellenos and Carne Asada, but I haven't returned in 3 years when we ate there for lunch. Chile Rellenos are longer offered as a meal and I thought their tacos at best were equivalent to Taco Bell.

Could someone describe what Plato Mexicano is? Y'all have me wondering! Thanks in advance!

DW and I are going to WDW for the first time in June 2003...this is the restaurant I think I'm most excited about.

If they are serving mole poblano, this place must be mostly authentic. I've tried this dish several times, mostly in Puebla, Mexico, the dishes origin, and can't stand the stuff, granted, I've never had it at the San Angel Inn. I've never seen so many people rave about mole poblano in one place before. If you've never had mole, it does take some getting used to. Does the San Angel Inn make an exceptionally good mole, or those of you who like it generally enjoy mole anyway?

Also...I've always wanted to know what Queso Fundido is?

Sorry this post was so negative...I just wanted to warn those who have never had mole before that not everybody likes it their first time, or their second time. It is has a very interesting flavor.

I'm very excited about our trip...and very excited about the the San Angel Inn. Mayble I'll get the nachos:smooth:
