What's Your Favorite Cake?

Cake is my downfall.

My absolute fave is any chocolate cake mix, OR scratch. Remove from oven at the exact right moment (I can actually SMELL this moment after 40 years of cake-baking). top with my home-made buttercream icing (VERY basic recipe).
Cannot stop eating this.

We have a bakery in the area that makes a pound cake with white icing, which is to die for. Will be having that Thursday for my Birthday!

2. Yellow cake (while warm) with crushed sweetened strawberries lavishly poured over a slice, with whipped cream on top - yummy, I want some now

The milky way cake?

Basically, make your favourite yellow cake batter (you could use a boxed mix). Take about a half cup of the batter out, mix it with a tablespoon of flour and 1 melted Milky Way (for the Europeans, that is a Mars Bar).

Fill a bundt pan half way with the batter, use the melted Milky Way as a ribbon in the middle and then fill the rest of the way with remaining batter and bake.

"Glaze" the cake with 2 other melted milky way bars.

Have you ever made a candy bar poke cake? You make any kind of cake you'd like and then poke holes (I use the handle of a slim knife) and mix ice cream topping like caramel, butterscotch, hot chocolate with a crushed candy bar. Pour the mixture into the holes and top with a light icing.

I just love cake. Even carrot cake, which I hate, I will eat just because of the frosting, until I can't stand the cake flavor any longer.

The only thing I won't eat is coconut anything.


Nothing beats my gran's chocolate frosting, however, the recipe has been lost to time or my sister is hoarding it.

I love cake but not a super sweet frosting person. So homemade Red Velvet or Carrot with cream cheese frosting is my favorite.

I recently made Mandarin Orange cake. Which is a box of white or yellow cake mix, two small cans of mandarin oranges drained and 3 eggs. Mix together and bake. Very moist and yummy.

Really not much of a cake fan.

If I am faced with a cake emergency though, my favorite is carrot cake with lots of walnuts, and a really good cream cheese frosting.

In the summer I LOVE this "strawberry cream" flavored pound cake that you can buy in the bakery at Walmart, topped with fresh sliced strawberries and fresh whipped cream. Angel food is good this way too, but I prefer the pound cake.

Actually, I am quite fond of most "pound cakes", if they are well made and moist.

DD9 and I made a really good homemade pound cake the other day. She was doing a study of the Southeast states at school, and they were having a "feast" for lunch. Each child had to pick a state and bring a food that would be representative of that state. DD picked Florida (of course, that's my girl ) and we found a recipe online for a citrus pound cake. We made it with fresh oranges. It was really good, and smelled SO good while it was baking.

But my all time favorite, number one best cake I ever put in my mouth is a Southern classic that I discovered at a wonderful little dessert restaurant in Athens, GA back in the 80's called the Flamingo Room... Hummingbird cake!! It is a banana cake with nuts and crushed pineapple in it, then frosted with heavenly cream cheese icing. OMG, drooling just thinking about it. Maybe I'll attempt one this evening.

There are lots of recipes out there, but the one I use is from Allrecipes.com and its called Better Than Sex Cake II. When I take it somewhere I never come home with leftovers and people always get a giggle from the name.
