What's your DCL family memory?

Oh my, there are so many, how can I pick just one?? I guess the best memory was driving to the port and seeing the Magic for the first time. The look on my kid's faces, as well as my own, I'm sure, is indescribable! That memory is closely followed by the look of awe when we actually boarded the Magic. Oh, followed by the safety drill, followed by the sail-away party, followed by dinner, followed by the shows....you get the point!

After our first 7 day Magic cruise, we met a wonderful family the first
night and spent the entire 7 days with them, my memory
was my (then) 9 yr. old son crying as we were pulling away from the ship...
the entire family had tears.

It is hard to pick just one so I'm going to pick 4:

  • Our very first cruise when the horn went off! DH was right across from it with the video camera to capture it. My MIL and FIL were with us (the trip was a gift to them) and she dove for cover when it went off!
  • The first DVC Member Cruise when we took over the ship and they hoisted a DVC flag. That was awesome and we are taking over the Wonder again this September.
  • The lunar eclipse we saw on our May 2003 cruise. As beautiful as the night sky is at sea it was multiplied by 100% on this night. DH and I spent time out on our verandah just gazing at all the stars. It was wonderful.
  • Last, but by no means least, our 10 day Christmas Cruise with so many DIS buddies. Family wise it was just DH and I but so many of us had become close that it seemed like we had family everywhere to share things with!

What if your favorite DCL family memory? I know what mine is.

Care to share???? :confused3

I remember my DD crying the morning we had to leave the ship when our first cruise was over! I have TONS of memories and they all make me smile! Seems the simple things that happen on the ship are the best memories!
One of the best cruises we took was with my parents! I know they will probably never be able to cruise with us again so I hold those memories close to my heart!

My Dk's loved it when they were about to got to Blue Lagoon Island in the Bahama's. My DS still talks about this excursion.

BUT ... both loved it when in October in St. Thomas Mariner of the Seas and the Magic had a horn stand off. Guess who had the best horn? My children loved this. They still will tell people able it. It was really cool to have the Mairner blow her horn as we were leaving and (It is a bigger ship) have all the people waving to us and then we blow our horn. Nothing like the wonder of the Magic's horn.

DH's favorite would have to be when on our first cruise we were having our deck party leaving PC and we all are partying and waving and people of the other ships are just looking at us. Then on our first stop the same things happen and the next port the same thing happens.

My favorite would be both DH and I coming out of a treatment from the Vista spa and seeing our favorite bartender at Quiet Cove Bar smiling and fixing me a rum runner. He just was smiling away making a drink and we walk up and he hands me a rum runner. Way too magical for me.

Didn't want to get off of the Magic on that last morning. We were on the last sailing of the Magic when she was an only "child" We were staying in Cocoa Beach for a few days and knew that the Wonder was getting ready for her first voyage (after the ocean crossing). We went back to the port to take a look at the "new" ship. She looked magnificent. We were able to get pretty close (pre 9/11). The kids didn't understand WHY we couldn't get back on this ship and take another cruise!! We've cruised on the Magic several more times, but we've never been on the Wonder.

1) night shuttle launch, we weren't far from Canaveral when it went up
2) walking the deck together with the whole family, late in the evening, with no real purpose or need to be somewhere else or do something else

Watching my husband ( a very conservative Air Force officer) dancing with our DD 4 at the sail away party. I've known my husband since 8th grade and have never seen him so happy to dance.

When DD was about 7 or 8...we were coming down in the elevator to get off at CC. The elevator doors opened at the same time the CM doors opened and Minnie and Mickey were coming out. Minnie saw DD, grabbed her by the hand and they skipped off the ship together and stood waving to us and everyone else as they came off The Magic.

Surprising DD and DH with a verandah cabin one cruise.

Seeing our good CM friends again...

Making new friends....

Just spending quality time with my family. Now a days that is hard to come by, with all the different schedules.

I know my DS' favorite memory: the shows! He was 2 1/2 when we cruised last January and loved to clap his hands. And when we went back home, he wanted to go to the show before going to bed!

Try explaining that the boat is very very far away and that other people are on the boat now...

He stills remember the bubbles from the sailaway party too. That party is DBF's favorite family moment.

My DD (8 months at the time) won't remember, but she liked smiling and waving to everyone in the elevator.

I enjoyed this whole time spent together, but the first thing that comes to mind is when we arrived at the port and learned we were upgraded from a cat.8 to a cat.5. It was nice to watch the kids still sleeping in the morning before going on the verandah.

I also liked to watch everyone play on the beach at CC. I couldn't believe these turquoise and blue waters were real and not enhanced for postcards!

Our first cruise last year.

DD turned 5 on the cruise, DS was 9mo. A week before we left, my DD broke her ankle and was in a swimming cast.

Early early our first morning at sea, my daughter had awoken and needed help to the head. She slept in the ceiling bunk the whole trip and never had problems going up the ladder, just a couple of times needed assistance coming down. So I got up to help her.

After using the facillities, she asked, "Mama, can we go sit on our verandah?" I nodded, and we walked around the crib out to our private space, and cuddled on the chair. We watched a shooting star and made a wish. We whispered about the wonder and awesomeness of the ocean, how it was scary and pretty cool, too. She asked if that was what God's love was like, big and powerful, but pretty. We whispered about missing my Dad who had died the year before, and how he must be an angel up there in the stars. And then she snuggled into my neck and fell asleep.

My baby boy learned to pull up and toddle by pushing his stroller around on that cruise, too

First of all bpicard9 ... your post brought tears to my eyes. What a wonderful memory for you and DD

My favorite memory happend on our 1st Disney Cruise and my youngest was 2 months shy of his 4th bday. After the shows each night, my family enjoyed the Family sing along show in the dueling piano bar (I miss this btw). The first night my oldest got to pick a body part to put "in" during the hokey-pokey. Not to be out done by his big brother, my youngest tried to volunteer to go on stage and tell a joke the next night. At the time we were sitting in a corner booth and the piano players couldn't see him sitting so nicely and raising his hand. DS moved out of the booth and stood next to his Daddy at the table still quietly raising his hand, again he couldn't be seen because he was standing behind a post. Finally, the next time they asked for a volunteer he walked right to the front of the stage and raised his hand. As he was standing there one of the piano players commented "that's the cutest thing I've ever seen." Unfortunately, they had just picked a little girl from the back of the room. We sent him right back to the stage the next time they asked for volunteers. That same piano player said, "gee, I wonder who we'll pick this time?" By the time my little guy got on stage he'd forgotten the knock-knock joke he was going to tell ... but it was precious anyway. :teeth:
