what's your biggest pet peeve?

Another petpeeve of mine (and those who live in TX, esp the DFW area right now, ya'll will totally understand) is the Tx Dept of Transportation (TXDOT). They will start construction on a road project and then take for freaking EVER to finish it. You want a 2 lane road expanded into a 4 or 6 lane road? Be prepared for 4-5 YEARS of construction! Ugh. Makes me insane the way it take so long!

TOV

The only ones that go up quickly are the toll roads! They get those open quick.

Okay -- here's my pet peeve: People that throw cigarette butts out the window of their car. This just drives me crazy.

One of my biggest pet peeves is gossipy men!

This guy at work comes to mind, always clucking with all the women, he reminds me of a teenage girl. Bad enough in a woman, but such an unbecoming quality in a man............

Okay, now that you've opened this thread, I'll add my comments that I wanted to make a few weeks ago.

Definitions:

bought - when you have purchased something

brought - when you bring something from one location to another

It is incredibly poor English to say, "We brought a new house and we close on it next month!". No. You BOUGHT a new house. BOUGHT.

The other one that has been getting abused on this board recently is "prolly". Prolly?!? That's not even an English word! It's spelled PROBABLY! There's two "b's" in that word, folks, and you missed them both!

Okay, I'm done.

People who come in 2 minutes before we close (restaurant). Especially when they ASK if they're "too late", come on, if you have to ask that you KNOW you are too late so go away!!

It's even worse if it's been a s-l-o-w night, not a single soul is in the restaurant and we're just watching the clock and THEN someone comes in at 2 minutes before closing, then we have to wait around another HOUR while they take their own sweet time eating, and even WORSE if they're done eating and STILL just sit there chatting, oblivious to the employees who are waiting to clean up and go HOME after a long shift!! It's just plain RUDE!!!

Once we got on the monorail at WDW and it was standing room only. I was with my grandmother and it bugged me that there was a family seated with several able bodied young men that didn't offer her a seat. Bad manners.

This is one of my biggest pet peeves too. In waiting rooms, or anywhere with limited seating, there should be a pecking order for who gets to be seated. We were at the ortho one day and a lady had about 4 kids with her - probably 3-6 years old. Everyone of them had a chair and there were quite a few adults having to stand. I always make my kids give up their seats if anyone older than them comes in. If you're going to let them sit, at least put them on your lap or make them sit two to a chair. Common courtesy goes a long way.

I would have a young child sit on public trasportation --much safer that way. but I agree with you, the kids could share seats r sit on a lap.

You must know my BIL then. After a family dinner and the dishes are done, the women sit around the table with a cup of coffee and chit-chat. The guys will gather in front of the TV to watch a game, or if there isn't a game on, they'll sit around in the family room and talk sports. :hyper2:

Not my one BIL! He stays with the women, enjoying the gossip and the chit-chat! :rotfl:

Which leads me to my pet peeve. Honesty. If you are really not open, say "sorry we are closed". I would be embarrased to think that an employee let me in and was angry about how rude I was to ask.

ITA. I owuldn't want to patronize an establishment where the employees thought I was rude just for asking what company policy is!

Here is one of mine...People who use the word "Yous". It is NOT a word. We had a meeting at a college the other day and the secretary of the one department said and I quote "Yous can sit right in here." YOUS? YOUS? It is "You". UGH!

Or, how about (zipping up flame suit) when you go grocery shopping and there are a lot of senior citizens who have ALL DAY to shop but you just want to get in and out in a matter of minutes and they are proceeding to walk through the store like they have never seen one before.

Or, my personal favorite is when you are talking to someone and they don't look at you. They look all around the room but not at you. UGH! Is it just me?

My biggest pet peeve is people who get to the top or bottom of an escalator and then just stop. Don't they realize that the escalator keeps going? I can't tell you the number of times I've almost tripped over people during my daily commute!

Smoking in a restaurant. I simply can't understand wht a smoker can't last one hour without puffing. :( And I have yet been to a restaurant where I can't smell the smoke. But that's also the VERY best thing about WDW....all food venues are non-smoking. :bounce:

My petpeeve is tattletales. I hate it when I'm disciplining an employee and they say "But so and so is taking long lunches! And the other so and so is not following dress code!!!"

It is not relevant to anything I am disciplining them about. Worry about yourself, not everyone else!

this one always gets me:

advice - a noun - Opinion about what could or should be done about a situation or problem; counsel.

advise - a verb- To offer advice to; counsel.

also - I cannot STAND people who "crunch crunch crunch" on chips.

imagine a quite office, around 1:30pm...well after most people take their lunch break...Mr. "i have to go to the gym between 11:30 and 1:20 each day then eat 2 bags of chips at my desk" comes back and has his lunch.

it's the longest 20 minutes of my life. plus he pours the chips into his mouth from the bag...so annoying.

one of these days I WILL snap.

I know what you mean, Scarlett. I'm so happy NYC and the suburbs have all adopted legislation prohibiting smoking in public places such as restaurants.

Old Garage/Tag/Rummage/Yard sale signs that nobody took down after the end of the sale. I hate following a sign to have it lead NOWHERE !!

People that talk during a movie, whether it be when I'm in a theater or at home.

::MickeyMo Mickey76::MickeyMo

Ditto on the talking, but what I REALLY hate is when someone puts their feet on the back of MY chair at the movies, and then kicks it or moves them around. I do not hesitate to ask them to stop. Last week, I had to tell the woman in back of me 3 times to stop kicking my seat, until finally I sat up, turned around, looked her in the eye, and begged her to plllleeeeaaassseee stop. She finally did....

thanks for allowing me to vent, I feel much better.:teeth:

<Puts on flame retardant suit>

My biggest one is the people at my job who stand around yapping in Spanish (they all speak fluent English as well) to each other so they can talk about co-workers etc. I know bits of Spanish and I've picked up parts of their conversations because they are SO LOUD. First of all, they all live in very Spanish neighborhoods. This is not their only means to speak in their native tongue. Second, they do it specifically to be exclusive, instead of striving for the all inclusive type workplace everyone else wants. There are like 4 women in my dept. (in an office) who do this. They do it all the time. It aggravates the heck out of me , and most of my other co-workers. Unfortunately, nothing can be done to stop them.

People who talk in hip hop slang too. Esp.. if they are doing so in a workplace.

My next one is pretentiousness. People who won't listen to a top 40 song, see a popular movie and even one who won't go to WDW because it's not "trendy and underground". These people also tend to only call movies "films". I don't know why but it irks me.

I can't stand people who are blinded by political ideology either on either end of the spectrum. And people who constantly whine about their "horrible lives, bad relationships etc." but refuse to take steps to better themselves.

Oh - and when I see young girls dressed like prostitutes....do their moms let them out of the house dressed like that?!?

Grrrrr. :) But there are also a lot of things I love about people. Polite people, friendly people, honest people etc. I probably sound like a curmudgeon. But I'm not I swear!

Thought of another one. Driving down the road and seeing kids bouncing around in the back seat of the car ahead. Nine times out of ten you pull up, and Mom has her seat belt on, but those kids are still bouncing around in the back.(Sorry ladies, but I have yet to see a man in this situation..) Where is the logic in that? Also, down here in the south, I see a lot of kids riding in the back end of a pick up truck. And dogs who are not tethered. OOOOOHHHH.... I just seethe when I see that...
