Whats you favorite sound at the fort?

The train whistle form the MK early in the AM while I am drinking coffee at the picnic table, reading my paper, eating my muffin.
I can even smell the grease from the train as it pulls into the station. (not really but you know what I mean)

This thread sounded so nice..the whip-o-wills..the sound of the breeze going through the spanish moss hanging from the trees...ya-da-ya-da..and then- The AMARDILLOS....around your site?????
I see medication in my future.

Okay...what EXACTLY do armadillos sound like..while they are scouting your campsite?...I remember seeing one many years ago when we stayed in cabins. FREAKED ME OUT!...I don't even want to think of them being near our trailer. They are butt ugly creatures...Sorry , if I've insulted the nature lovers among us..they are U-G-L-Y!

:lmao: We JUST returned home late last night. Last week as we were sitting under our awning at night...one walked under the camper a few feet away from where we were sitting. It startled me, but I don't freak out about them or anything. He calmly walked past us and "rustled" through the leaves on the other side of the camper. So the best way I can describe how they sound is "rustling of leaves". Harmless.... ;)

I loved listing to the boat whistles and fireworks at night...ahhh.

Yes, armadillos are harmless.

The only eat grubs and insects -- which is a good thing especially when camping.

I agree that they are really ugly - but since we dont have armadillos in NJ, seeing them means we are in camping at the Fort, which right about now sounds pretty good. It is snowing right now here in North Jersey.

It has been so cold up here - can't wait for some fun in the sun.

Hope everyone had a nice Easter weekend....

I remember from my pharmacology and infectious disease days that armadillos are carriers of leprosy in North America, and are therefore anything but harmless. They should not be touched, and if you do, wash your hands thoroughly. Otherwise, they are an interesting bit of natural history - a sort of prehistoric hold out in a modern world.

Yes, armadillos have been known to be infected with the bacterium that causes leprosy (Hansen’s disease). But, fortunately for us, the only cases of transmission from armadillos to humans have occurred in rare incidents in which people ate undercooked armadillo meat.

So, even though there is a grill at your site, please refrain from killing and grilling the armadillos! And, if you do, please make sure they are cooked well-done! :rotfl2:

My footsteps jumping up the wooden steps at Trails End followed by the almost silent sound of my rocking chair on the porch and the mmmm sound that escapes me with my first sip of lemonade and the fireworks in my heart at being where I want to be!

I have, in my travels, eaten many exotic foods. The native species of FW are not, in my eyes, protected - case in point, when was the last time you saw peacocks there?;)

I love the sound of the hawks on the hunt in the morning. The last two times we went, we were near a nest and it was wonderful!

lol, maybe I'll tell that to the next person who sits down six inches from me with one of those in their hands, and begins to do their best caveman impression.

"Hey, did you know those are actually peacock?"

Oh...man...as if it wasn't enough for the armadillos to be butt ugly..but leprosy too.:sad2: How lovely...and who would ever look at one of those things and think.."I'm hungry"..:earseek:

I heard a cool sound tonight but no idea where it was coming from. I was walking Finnegan in the pet walk by the canal in loop 1800 around 9:45 and I could hear LOUD music...a collection of Disney intrumental songs. It seemed to be coming from the settlement area. We were down there last night and we didn't hear this music. Any ideas where it was coming from and what the occasion was ??

I would imagine you heard the Electric Water Pageant. It happens nightly around 9:45. Try and see it if possible. It goes around to all the resorts on the lake. When we were there last month we were riding back from MK and saw it crossing Seven Seas Lagoon really up close. I saw it for the 1st time back in 01 when I stayed at the Contemporary and it's pretty neat. It get's even cooler during the holidays.

My DD-11 likes also likes the sound of the clippety clop of the horses:hippie: My DS-8 likes the sounds of nature at FW.
