What's wrong with People Mover?

We were at MK three days this week and all three days when we tried to go on People Mover, they had everyone stopped at the bottom and they get everyone off that is currently on the ride and then they start letting people onto the ride. This ride used to be a walk-on but now you have to wait for them to get everyone off the ride before they allow you on. It's really annoying and strange at the same time. Happened all three times we were at MK.

Are you sure that's what they're doing--clearing the entire ride? Usually they stop people at the bottom of the ramp just to let the upper loading queue clear a bit. I've seen that a lot in recent years.

No, people all three times were getting off the line because it was at least a 10 minute wait. They weren't allowing anyone on the ride. The escalator was empty for a while and it seemed like they were waiting for everyone to get off the ride before they started letting people on. It was strange but happened all three days.

It is strange. I had about a 10 min line a week or two ago and when I got up there, entire cars were empty and we had a whole train to ourselves. Weird.

All three times it was in the afternoon. They were making people wait at the bottom for extended periods and getting people off and the cars were going around empty for a while and then they would start letting everyone on. Don't know why.

Guessing threat of lightning. It's a ride that you venture far from the loading and unloading area and spend much of the ride outside so higher chance for weather to affect operation.
Also many times they hold people at the bottom because its meant to be a steady moving line and at times its not so they would have to turn off the escalators if they let too many people start going up.

It's probably the ride getting stuck. It seems to be an ongoing problem. We saw people stuck on it when we were there last year. Amazing that they can't get it reliably fixed

Yes, we were here today and while I'm not sure that they were waiting until everyone got off, they were certainly waiting way too long. Once we were finally allowed to go up the ramp, we went up to find that there were many many cars being sent through empty, while there was still a line of stopped ppl. at the bottom. Then again, at pirates today it was a 45 min. wait because they were only running 1 side and literally sent every other boat completely empty. Totally ridiculous in my opinion. We've run into a lot of skimping in terms of service this trip... yes, I know it's a slower time, we go this week or the week of labor day every year, but the cut backs this year have really made an impact on us. At cosmic rays, not all the bays were open during prime lunch rush.....very frustrating and never used to happen and the reduced capacity in running rides has been very evident.

We were at MK multiple days over the past 2 weeks and found the wait times for PM to be strangely long. Sometimes it was shut down all together. Very frustrating.

Watching the live streams, it seems like PM has been breaking down a lot and everyone has to walk off the track and leave via the stairs.....

I was there beginning of August and I've never seen the PM line so long. When I was in line I think they were just waiting for the upstairs queue to clear out so people weren't just standing on the escalator. But so many empty cars we're going by we really thought it was shut down lol

We rode on Saturday night, after HEA. Walked right no, no wait, operating just like normally operates. Didn't stop, thankfully. So whatever issues you encountered were due to issues, not a new loading procedure. I'm not surprised to hear it's having operational issues. It's had them off and on and reports have gotten more frequent. I bet we'll see it hit the refurb list before long, getting ready for the 50th

I totally agree with you. We noticed the same thing also. POC used to be a walk on but was around 45 minutes most of the days we were at MK and wanted to ride because a CM told me "only one side is open" We also always go this time of year and it has been the most crowded we have ever seen it and the ride waits were not low, like they used to be.

I have noticed the controllers Attached to the power Pads .. some are really really old, others are newer. They probably needed to do a full replacement of those every now and then, but they haven't.

Yeah I imagine that the maintenance on the PeopleMover is not a picnic... :(

Be careful what you wish for, too: at Disneyland it needed extensive repairs, so they would have had to modify it to fit new codes. They tore it down instead, and the remnants still hover useless over tomorrowland.

Wow, that is bad. Really awful that they do this now to save money. They don't need to do this, they're just super greedy. Makes there be no benefit to going at a slower time anymore

Wasn't that a dual problem? Disneyland's people mover had the mechanical power on the track. Hundreds of rubber tires attached to hundreds of electrical motors moved the unpowered ride vehicles. Replacing tons of tires was OK when it was sponsored by Goodyear.

Then Disneyland tried to make it a thrill ride by doubling the speed, Rocket Rods. Of course the structure wasn't built for those additional forces, and any hope of a reasonable refurb is gone.
It is odd that it still stand.

We were there at that same time and saw the same thing. I have never seen such a long line for the PM. It was crazy! There was even someone having to have a sign to where the line started almost all the way over to the elevators for AO.
