What's wrong with my computer ?

Is anyone else experiencing the same problems with the DIS boards, or is something wrong with my "new" computer?

My User CP keeps saying there are no new subscribed threads, even when I create a new one, or reply to an existing one. I have to go and search all over to find the threads I posted in.

Random words are occassionally underlined in gold.

I emailed where it says 'contact us' yesterday, so hopefully it can be fixed. I just didn't know if it was just me, or if other people were experiencing that too.

Thanks princess:

I don't know what's going on with the Subscribed Thread problem, but the underlined words definitely sounds like Spyware. Have you run AdAware or Spybot lately?

I'm just hearing about this spyware all over the place. I was having trouble with my homepage being changed, my connection being slow, constant popups, web pages wouldn't load. I had to run a spyware and adware program, and sure enough, I had 8 files that were causing these problems. I used the software to delete them and so far, so good.

That is exactly what is happening with my computer too. We did a McAfee virus scan and it found nothing so I bet it is spyware. How do I correct this? How do I run AdAware or Spybot? Could someone please PM me since I may not be able to find this thread again if you respond :)

THANKS!!

I sent you a PM with links to the download sites. Good luck! :)

Check for spyware. I was having problems with my computer: it was so slow it couldn't even handle links to websites that popped up. Adaware found over 700:earseek: pieces of spyware on the computer. It runs great now that they're gone:D

Well, thanks to everyone's help I downloaded Spybot and it found 198 cases of spyware. Where does this stuff come from? it's crazy!! Anyway, it was able to clean everything except for 1 thing. Anyone know why that would be? I'm sorry, I'm pretty good with computers, but this virus and spyware stuff is pretty new to me. Thanks for all the help!!!

It should have told you what it could not remove. Run it again and tell us what is says...

i get random words underlined in green and I have run spybot over and over again. I need to run something else to try to get rid of this...it is so annoying. Anybody know any trustworhty sites?

Make sure you have these two. These will get rid of almost anything. There is an option in both to Update the scanning engines - you should do both. Read the online help about updating them.

Spybot - http://www.safer-networking.org/

Adaware - http://www.lavasoftusa.com/

Now, if those do not work, you will need to use something much stronger. There is a program called Hijackthis which will analyze your system and provide a 'log' which you can upload to many forums for identifying the problems. You can get it here .

A good 'FAQ' about Hijackthis is here

Please remember that Hijackthis is not for the faint of heart. You can mess up your system beyond repair by using it incorrectly. Use with caution.

I have run it (Spybot) repeatedly and the one thing that it keeps saying it cannot fix is

TSCash (anyone else getting this one)

The others that are repeatedly showing up even though it says it 'can fix' them are:

Unknown
DSO Exploit

Also, even though I have immunized, I still am getting 7-8 items that need 'fixed' each time I run it, and I have been checking it 2-3 times daily because I am still having problems. Do I need to download and run AdAware too?? Thanks everyone for being so helpful with this ANNOYING issue ! :)

You sometimes have to run both programs to catch them all. It is tedious. I will say that since I have upgraded to the Plus version of Ad-aware, I have had no spyware on my PC at all. none.

Yes, you should run both. I run both weekly.

Even immunized the trackers are going to sneak in. Most of the time just as a tracking cookies, but they do nonetheless. Think of it this way - if you were trying to spy on as many people as possible on the internet wouldn't you do everything in your power to try to stay ahead of adware and spybot type programs.

It sucks that it has come down to the fact that you have to be proactive about it now, but that's the price of using the internet IMHO.

I just did a search for TSCASH and it sounds like there are lots of people that are having the same problem you are. The solution?

Run the Hijackthis I mentioned above. Here is what you do:

1) Download it, put it in it's own directory.
2) Run it. It will create a 'log' which is a listing of everything running on your PC.
3) Post that 'log' on this forum:http://www.computercops.biz/forum67.html (Don't worry, you won't be giving up personal information)
4) Moderators and other helpful people will help you 'clean' your machine.

Good luck!
