Whats Wrong with Disney?

Snow White, Dumbo and Cinderella can't really compete with Frozen, Despicable Me, Ice Age, Tangled, etc... Sure you can make a child watch anything you desire, but it's not really any more fair than had I been forced to watch silent films when I was a kid.

Kids shouldn't be forced to watch anything, but they should be exposed to many different kinds of movies from many different eras, and there's nothing unfair about it. They will make up their own minds. Start a classic Disney movie, or even a silent film for them, and if they get bored they will do something else.

I'm certainly not that old, but I have fond memories of watching the classics as a kid, and I don't think kids today would be any different. Although, when I was a kid all I had to do was turn on the TV to be exposed to all kinds of old movies and shows (UHF channels, baby!), most of them I had no idea were even old. TV today is not quite the same.

It's tough today with giant HD screens and perfectly animated CGI films. Tried watching Snow White a few weeks ago and it was tough. The animated flickered and seemed unstable, the soundtrack sounded very dated. Would be hard to get anyone besides the youngest children to sit through it. Still not terrible though considering that movie is coming up in 80 years.

Well, I think kids are far less critical of technical aspects than adults are, though I can't really imagine having a tough time sitting through a masterpeice like Snow White. That's like being bored by Casablanca because it's in black & white. All this new stuff sure is slicker, but it's not really any better than classic animation. They both have their charms.

Mine aren't. Classic animation is charming, but I have to disagree that its isn't any better than today's animation.
And yes, Casablanca is boring but not just because its in B&W, its because its old.

That's fair (they're both great to me). You're not judging based on age or technology level, so that's good. I actually find The Godfather boring (gasp!), but I recognize it as a great work of cinema.

Its boring because of all of the above, but I think the acting in all old movies is horrible, and the stories by today's standards are just plain old boring, again because they are old. Just a personal preference that is all.

Well, I guess Bogart and Bergman don't hold a candle to today's exciting actors. It's amazing movies are still being made after all those obviously terrible early efforts.

Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid isn't exactly a new release either.
