What's with the Matterhorn today?

Lately I've been obsessively watching the wait times, getting a feel for our trip next month. So I generally have a pretty good idea of how things go during the day. I've noticed it's getting busier-- still great in the early mornings (PP at 20 minutes!? a couple of times, even after MM) but later the lines are at Spring Break levels, 2 hours for RSR, etc. FPs gone by 1 p.m.

However, Matterhorn was down for quite awhile today, certainly all of MM, I think. And the rest of the day, it's been almost a 2 hour wait! And FPs were gone almost as soon as RSR. Isn't that really unusual for Matterhorn? Space Mountain, yes, but...

Apparently, a chunk of the "mountain" fell off overnight, forcing the closing of half the ride. I don't know if both sides are again open (there is an article about this in the Orange County Register, but since I've used up my quota of "free articles" I don't know more than what I've written).

Below is a link to the article which I'm unable to read:

Partial closure of Matterhorn

Ohhhh, wow! Thanks for the info!
Well, I haven't used up my free articles, so I C&P'd it here:

"A bedroom door-sized chunk of rockwork plaster broke off from the faux mountainside of the Matterhorn Bobsleds roller coaster at Disneyland and forced the closure of one side of the attraction.

Disneyland officials said the rockwork broke loose early Thursday morning while the Anaheim theme park was closed.

“During overnight maintenance, a portion of decorative rockwork was found to be in need of repair, which we are working quickly to make,” Disneyland officials said in a statement.

A graveyard shift maintenance crew discovered the fallen rockwork. Nobody was injured. The plaster chunk did not fall on the coaster track.

The Matterhorn coaster has two separate tracks. The side of the attraction where the rockwork broke loose was closed on Thursday. The other side remained operational."

That’s crazy. I didn’t get a chance to get over there myself but I noticed the times.

I have not been able to read OCR for several years :headache:

Hmm can’t figure out the sideways pictures cause I am too tired. I still didn’t get a chance to ride today. Fastpasses were gone quickly and 3 times I came by they were not accepting single rider (don’t understand that)

Thanks for the picture! That's a thin coat of mountain on the Matterhorn!

I hope they don't have to close the attraction for an prolonged amount of time now to do rock work. It seems like every time I go on an extended vacation to the happiest place on earth the Matterhorn seems to go down.

I haven’t even thought about that..
I missed matterhorn last year I wanna ride it this year...
But I hope they quickly repair it and don’t do any other major repairs...

CM told me 4 weeks for repair. Fantasyland side is open. And it seems it will be because they are working on it today.

So about 4 weeks from today? If so thats not that bad for me. Hopefully they don't find lots of other issues in the process of fixing this one. But I feel for the folks who are going in the next month though. Even though the Matterhorn beats the heck out of my back, it reminds me so much of my youth and I love riding it. Especially at night

I’m here now and snapped these pics to add to what others have already posted. A CM was nice enough to direct me to the accident site. I thought she’d say something like “I have no information on that.”

Is the ride itself needing to stay closed on one side or will it reopen shortly? I thought it didn’t disrupt the ride track itself...
