What's with BOG?

For those who've done dinner at BOG, did you request a certain room (West Wing vs Ballroom) and was it granted? I've heard the West Wing is preferred by many. And do they ever use the Rose room with the music box at dinner or only lunch? To me it looks like the most peaceful of the three rooms.

Dinner, dinner, dinner - don't even look at breakfast or lunch -- the menu is completely different, and frankly, so unappetizing I've never tried it. Dinner is delectable. From the lantern-lit bridge over a stream nestled in evergreen trees to the grand entrance to the incredible ballroom (yes, even the fake snow adds a nice touch), the experience is one of a kind, and makes every trip. The food is delightful -- steak and frites (with mayo no less) and a Kronenburg Blanc make the meal. It's our absolute favorite dinner in The World :thumbsup2

I've done dinner twice. I think both times we requested the west wing; the first time we were seated in the ballroom, the second time in the west wing. I also think there are some people who ask to *not* sit in the west wing (it's dark, so less comfortable for anyone with vision problems, and could be scary for small kids). so if you want to sit there, go ahead and ask. just remember that the west wing is about a third of the size of the ballroom, so your request might not happen.

on our last visit to BOG (May) they were using part of the Rose room for dinner. I don't know if that's still happening or not, but you could always ask when you check in (I completely agree with you about this room--it's beautiful!)

I enjoy lunch more than dinner.

To each their own :thumbsup2. Personally, I don't do lunch at Disney -- sit down breakfast/dinner. If I were to, I definitely wouldn't choose BOG just based on the menu alone. No steak, no pork chop, no dice...lunch may taste like pumpkin pie, but I'm not going to eat the ... :p

I always read these threads (BOG, Coral Reef, Ohana) and so many people think they're terrible and overrated and I think "Then why can't I eat there?!":-)

BOG is easy to get if you book it at 180 + 10 days (you can book up to 190 days out starting at 180 days from your checkin, if staying at a Disney resort) :thumbsup2 Personally, I think they should make it a Signature DDP restaurant, which would thin the herd. It absolutely boggles my mind it is not a Signature restaurant. Signature restaurants are what are overrated -- service and food are below average IMO. BOG has been perfect every time we've been which is every trip every year since it opened (BTW, FWIW I agree Ohana and Coral Reef are overrated too).

Been to lunch twice. Theme is great and food is good compared to other QS locations. Yes it's kind of a pain to get the reservation but it was the only place DD requested on our next trip. P.S. I think food at Disney is way overrated... If any of it was outside a theme park the only thing I would buy are Mickey Pretzels.

I would love a signature meal in the park but I doubt that Disney would o that. They turtables quickly and there is no way I would agree to be rushed through a mel that I was paying an astronomical price for. Remember when CRT was not characters during dinner? Once that changes, I think any opportunity for aeven a semblance of fine dining was gone.

Thats why you would not recommend BOG for lunch, LOL!

I have done breakfast, lunch and dinner. I enjoyed them all. I do not go and expect a five star meal in a theme park. I want something that tastes good. All the meals tasted good. All of Disney restaurants are loud. I have an 8:00 am pre-park opening breakfast scheduled in December. Looking forward to walking a less crowded main street and getting a unique breakfast sandwich. Great use of a QS. Go have some food but do not think you will have an intimate Victoria and Albert meal. Then you will not be disappointed.

I personally don't find anything special about it at all. Last year I booked it for dinner because of the hype and it was one of the worst meals of our trip. This year, I decided to try the QS breakfast, mostly because I wanted to get a chance to ride Mine Train early. The food was fine, but the service was slow. On that same trip, I ended up booking a dinner (believe it or not, it was the only last minute ADR I could get in MK) and the food was much improved from my experience the year before, so the place was somewhat redeemed for me.

It's well themed and I would recommend to anybody to go at least once just to see it. But the food is nothing special (hit or miss for me), so I certainly wouldn't stress over getting an ADR there in future, but also would not completely avoid the place either. So I guess I'm in the "not worth the hype" and/or the "take it or leave it" camp.

Ha! I almost posted the V&A comparison earlier.
I've never even BEEN to BOG yet, and I feel like I'm defending it already. I guess because I'm excited to eat there, and reading people running it down is a bit irritating. Food is so subjective, I don't know how anyone can take some stranger on a message board's opinion that seriously.
I chose my ADRs based on four basic requirements:
1. Does the menu appeal to me?
2. Is going to be convenient given the day's itinerary?
3. Is it a dining experience I'm not likely to have here at home?
4. Is it within a reasonable price range?

BOG meets all four of those requirements. I'm not expecting a "signature" dining experience. I'm expecting a decent meal in a cool place that's based on a cartoon.

We did lunch on our last trip, last October, and loved it. We sat in the West Wing, which was dark but beautiful, and I had the braised pork, which is delicious and SO good as a QS meal. My DD loved the croque Monsieur, and we all enjoyed the cupcakes. So much so that I already got a lunch ADR for our upcoming Feb. trip. I think it's definitely worth a quick service credit on the dining plan.

As a Beauty & the Beast fan this is a must do for me. It's like CRT - I had to do it at least once. The food was just okay but the experience our family had there was great & I love looking back at those pictures.

Hoping to book a dinner ADR next month - Can someone tell me how long it takes to meet the Beast? Is that something you line up to do after your meal?

Did I read the menu correctly that breakfast cost $22 (no dining plan)? If that is true....why so much for breakfast compared to their lunch/dinner prices?

Ooo, yeah. That's a recent increase. All breakfast entrees were $19.99 last I checked, but you're right, $21.99 now. Yikes.
It's still on the dining plan though as a quick service credit.

At $22 its a great value as a QS on the dining plan. But if you typically stay off site (like me) and can't participate in the dinning plan, then I would much rather make an ADR at The Crystal Palace for not much more money.

Yeah, I don't blame you! And at CP you can eat all you want for that money. Definitely makes more sense.

The original reason for the hoppers (first time ever buying hoppers btw and we haven't bought them yet, we have our tickets but planned on adding hoppers at the gate) was for MSEP. I havent seen it in over 25 years and neither of the 2 people going with me have ever been to DW. I started booking ADRs at around the 130 day mark and there was BoG availability for almost every day of our trip for dinner so I made a dinner ADR for out MSEP night.

Do I wans to see MSEP again? Sure. Do I want to go allllll the way to the back of MK (after a day at AK already) just to eat at BoG for dinner while fighting crowds to get there? Not so sure.

Literally, the only 3 things we were hopping for were MSEP, Wishes, and BoG. I can do without Wishes (but they've never saw it) and I can do without BoG since we also have a breakfast ADR.....so that brings the real decision maker down to MSEP. Do we want to pay $150 to see that parade? I'm just not so sure now.

I get faced with this a lot. Especially now with Fastass Plus. Last trip my family of four park hopped primarily to fit in Fantasmic and Soarin. It seemed like a waste but I've learned not to analyze my Disney spending too closely. Case in point I upgraded from Pop to Por to the tune of about $600 for an extra bathroom sink. What can I say, I have a 19 year old daughter lol.

For me MSEP is worth it but I LOVE that parade! Maybe meet in the middle? See the parade but eat someplace cheaper?
