I don't quite understand it, but lately, everyone is ranting about one thing or another about WDW? Umbrellas, side by side strollers, cast members, personal space, handicap access, etc. It's always been here, but over the last few weeks, the DISboards seem to have become less about what's fun and informative about WDW, and more about "What's your beef?!" There are even coarse, rude threads about coarse and rude behavior at the parks? :confused3 What's up, everyone?

Thank You! I thought I was the only one who was fed up with all of the negativity here. I am almost afraid to open some threads because I can tell it could be hazardous to my mental health!
Come on people lighten up. These boards are about the Happiest Place On Earth you know!:wizard:

I think it is the heat and the crowds making everyone jumpy and punchy. Everyone wants to go to disney when it is cool and have NO crowds. But, since the attendence is back up to pre 9/11, everyone is having to make adjustments.. and some aren't doing it very well. I, for one, skip most of the complaining threads and seek out the fun ones.

I agree! It seems like a person can't be in WDW without irritating someone elses pet peeve. :earseek:

I agree, there does seem to be a lot of ranting and raving going on lately. May be the weather, may be the increased attendance. I look at it as an education. I learn so much from these boards. Not just about which rides to ride or where to stay. Even reading about someone elses pet peeves makes me more aware of my behavior.

Hopefully some happier threads will be coming.

I feel the same way. I'm so tired of hearing about:

"I'm never staying at _______ resort again because there was a nick in the wall" or "My child was ignored on her birthday"

When I'm at WDW I'm happy to be there. While I understand that not everything is going to be perfect all the time, I'm also not looking for bad things or stuff to complain about. If I encounter a problem, I try to solve it and have always been impressed with the way Disney CM's handle problems when they come up.

WDW is a magical place but I believe we have to create our own magic too. I don't ever expect that someone is going to cater to me or give my family special attention-even if we are celebrating a birthday. It's MY job to make sure my kids feel special and have a magical experience! :wizard:

No one, nothing, etc. will spoil the Magic for me. In WDW, if they (???) have a problem....yeap...THEY have a problem...I just go on smiling (even wider if security arrives, meaning the Mouse cares about the rest of us). We plan, save, dream, collect bottle with .05 deposits, talk endless about the next trip to the Mouse and when we get there it is fairy dust time. I love the DISboards, they help me before the trip and carry the magic a little longer when I get home.

I guess it's time to shift focus...next positive topic please :)!

Hmmm can I hijack here? I'm going back to the World and looking at the FREE Dining so thinking of shifting our trip to Sept 24 - Oct 3rd. Isn't that awesome?!

The ranting seems to be the norm rather than the exception. I have always loved these boards, but those that whine and gripe incessantly are killing the joy for me. My post about the most wonderful thing that happend to us last week got many responses the first day, it's probably way back on page 10 by now. However, the gripes about CM's lack of magic, rude people at WDW, etc never disappear from front page.

I'm sure I saw many a nose-picking CM or rude guest - probably even got poked by an umbrella or two last week when it was raining. But I seriously don't remember it. Just wasn't worth a second thought. I was having the time of my life with my husband and children. I observed them - their smiles, their laughter, their joy.

Is Disney the perfect place?? Heck no. But when I'm with my family having pure, unadulterated (sp?) fun then it becomes the perfect place for us. ]

I love the DIS, but sometimes it can be a 'dream stealer'.

Bash away...I'm taking a DIS break for now.

I'm a high school teacher, so nothing phases me :teacher:

I haven't been in the chat room for years, has it gone negative as well? I remember a fantastic group in there!

Remember, the DIS is an ever growing community. As the DIS grows, it will gain a wider variety of personalities. Go with the flow and look out, because I am going to WDW with 14 High school students for 5 nights on the 23rd! I will be easy to spot, I will be the one on the rides in a straight jacket!

I think thats an awesome deal - but I am all ready reading threads of concern that it will be too crowded due to the plan!

I tell you a few years ago there were no hours and limited opportunities. Thank Goodness times have changed and the park is in great shape again. I too have noticed the negativity. But I am one who can make a go of it no matter how hot, cold, crowded, busy etc etc...just gotta make it work.

Boy too true! I have been on the dis a bunch this weekend since my dd hasn't been feeling well. Sheer boredom and my love of Disney and the disboards! I have been posting frequently to a couple of threads on this board and now I need to only open happy threads! I have been agreement that there are always issues and problems to be found and sometimes those issues might even find me but I still think its the greatest, happiest, best vacation to be had! You can shove me at a parade but I will still be in heaven! I still find the good folks at WDW still outnumber the bad apples about 1000 to 1.

No offense, but wouldn't THIS topic be considered complaining as well? A complaint thread about complaints....somethings never cease to amaze me.

I'm fairly new to DISboads and I too over the past two weeks noticed an increase in rants --which is okay but the bickering over them?. It seems when someone posts their opinion or an innocent observation someone takes it sooo personal and starts a debate over it. I was really tripping over the cellphone thread and that thread went on and on and on. But I guess eveyone's entitled to their opinions.

I think this may be the norm because every message board I visit has some ranting- no matter what the topic is. I've been to movie threads where people argue over someone else opinion of a movie-good or bad and I've even been to a thread where people debated over what language is the most difficult language to learn.

HEY, NO COMPLAINING!!! :rotfl2:

I've been visiting the DIS for a few years now and have always enjoyed the wealth of information and the sense of community here.

It does seem that there has been a lot of complaining and general grumpiness as of late and it's sad to see. Not because I can't simply skip over the "rant" threads, because I do, and that works for me, but for another reason.

See, I used to belong to another, non-Disney related message board. The general discussion forum of that board started out as a great place to be: a great community with a lot of nice people, great ideas, and wonderful advice. It slowly evolved into a list of rants, complaints, and general meanness & cattiness. The board was eventually closed down, as the advertisers didn't want to sponsor such a useless message board anymore. All because of people who felt the need to viciously verbally attack every other poster for their views/thoughts/lifestyles/choices/hairdos/etc.

I hope that the DIS isn't heading down that same path of destruction, because I'd really miss this place!

I agree that there is a lot of complaining and ranting on the boards as of late. It seems like everyone is upset. I believe half of it is the anxiety of having to wait on your trip to get here while you read about everyone that just got back. Plus, the other half is knowing that the crowd levels are increasing again. I know this time in 2 weeks I will be going thru AK and I don't care how crowded it is, I know I am going to have a good time. It is time for the magic to come back to the DIS Boards.

Dancing all the way to POP :cool1: :cool1:

My opinion, actually I feel that there are a lot of happy posts on the Dis Boards as opposed to other boards that exist out there. :wizard:
For example just on the first page of the section on Theme Parks there is the Candlelight processional post with the many beautiful and inspirational remarks about this event, and then there is the amazingly cool thread on WDW shirts that I found inspiring artistically and wow how about those tye die shirts unbelievalbe. :cheer2: Then there is a thread with people giving great advice on the Scrapbooking supplies something I just got addicted to and will be buying Mickeys for the book this week ::MickeyMo Followed by the Gifts for Characters thread which is so very cute I never thought of giving acorns to Chip and Dale. Hey, maybe I can bring some ribbons and bows to give to Suzy and Perla to make a dress beautiful for Cinderella. Last but not least there is the post about Turtle Talk which I never would have known about except for these boards. :goodvibes :goodvibes

Now compare that to rant threads on the same first page of this section. I personally can only see two maybe three.

Definitely more pixie dust then icky negativity. :flower:
