What's up with the Yetti????

I've heard that the company that built him went out of business and they can't figure out how to service/repair him inside the mountain. To take him out, repair, and replace would take several months, all of which would make Expedition Everest non-operational which they don't want to do. Has anyone else heard this and/or a potential solution? I hate seeing him on strobes instead of moving and we're going to the World in 3 weeks.

Well I heard that the original yeti was actually chernabog that the imagineers had trapped there to keep him from taking over the parks and that maleficent has helped him escape so they had to put something there quick so people wouldn't be suspicious.

I don't understand how they can be so proud of the Yeti and not get it fixed. So what if the company who build it went out of business.

Yeah, it just doesn't look as awesome as it did in A mode. Hopefully they'll fix it soon, I thought they were supposed to fix it. Im nto sure if they were closing the ride down or just doing it a little at a time and keeping it in B mode or what... we'll just have to wait I guess.

I thought a CM on the boards here mentioned that there was a serious crack in the base to which "Betty" is attached, and that repairing it is a fairly large undertaking. I don't think it has anything to do with some company going out of business...I doubt that would have stopped Disney.

The Yeti was fully operational 2 weeks ago. I even rode it again to make sure I wasn't simply out-witted by the strobe lighting.

I rode it within the last 2 weeks as well and did not notice it not moving, but I guess this gives me an excuse to go back and ride it! yay for living here!

I've heard this as well from a friend who still works there. That seems more logical as the Yeti swings with the force of a jet taking off.

This is not true. The Yeti was designed and built in-house by Walt Disney Imagineering.

This is also not true. The Yeti was installed after the majority of the mountain had been built.

This is what most people familiar with the problem have stated. I've also heard rumors that there may be an issue with stress fractures occuring within the Yeti itself, but I'm not sure how reliable those rumors are.

No matter where they are stress cracks could be a major issue. In the first place stress cracks are hard to repair because they tend to continue to expand after the repair. Secondly repair only covers up the underlying problem which is the fact that the structure itself is under designed. In a long-term the only true solution normally is a complete redesign and rebuilding of the structure to solve the original design problem.

In this case I'm sure the short term solution (possibly the final solution) will be to stop or limit the movement of the Yeti to increase the safety for the visitors and to reduce further damage. No matter how you look at it it's not a pleasant situation.
