What's up with Post Office...

Yup! and I would add....an ounce of kindness goes a long way!!! I always say hi and thanks when I see my mail lady and she will go out of her way to make sure my pkgs are left under cover if I'm not home, stop and show me a piece of mail that was damaged and tell me how to make a claim, smile at my kids....... I figure she's HUMAN and I treat her that way.

I love my local post office!!!!The people are polite, friendly and helpful. I could go to other branches, but mine seems to get things out a little quicker.

I think mailing a letter or a card in the USA is one of the best bargains around. Coast to coast for less than 40 cents. Absolutely amazing.

Having said that, if sending something really important that I want to MAKE SURE gets there, I have 3 letters for you...

You can track it. It's insured. Best of all, I can send something OVERNITE in my zone for less than 4 bucks.

I've had tons of problems with checks I have sent to pay bills never getting where they are supposed to be. I don't blame the mail carrier, I blame the computers...I know most of the stuff is automated now. I've also started doing most of my banking on-line. I also had a person from a CC company tell me that their mail room is terrible. Bills get shredded by their mail machine all the time! And then the customer gets stuck paying the late fee because they never got the payment!!

Unfortunately, a lot of things happen that are bad, even when we try to work around them.
One, is the the machines known as the remote bar code sorters. A lot of mail is keyed now over a monitor in another city that it may not be mailed in. (a person at the other end is seeing it on a computer as it is being sent through in another city). Unfortunately, if a letter from their own city gets in, they may key it to the other city they were just looking at. I.E., the letter may have a p.o. box number like one that the other city just had, and the person keys it to Detroit instead of Raleigh. That dratted barcode CAN keep it in a loop for days. Which is the biggest downside of automation. Even though automation can key mail loads faster than the letter sorting machines that we used when I came in 20 years ago, it can be a pain IF that barcode is wrong.
Also, credit companies are the worst! I see so many customers every week, who have mailed their bills to a credit company of some sort, and for some reason the company delays posting the payment, loses the check internally, etc. And, you can bet they aren't 'fessing up to it. But, everytime I tell someone to start sending the letter by certified mail, guess what? It always stops. Dead. Suddenly the company starts getting it on time! Wow, you mean it wasn't us all along? :)
As for the smaller packages, it helps if you bring in the wrapper if possible. We've seen so many weird things happen, it helps to see the wrapper to just make an educated guess as to what went wrong. Personally, I like to track down mysteries.:) I don't want my customers to have a bad experience.
Also, one other thing. Use the customer complaint form in an intelligent manner. If you have a problem with your carrier, don't be telling me the window clerk (often at another station from where your carrier comes out of). That person's supervisor needs to be made aware of possible problems. That carrier may need to be made aware of it. Whether they are doing something stupid or deliberately, or even accidentally. If you have a problem with a clerk, also use the form. We are plagued with bad clerks just like any other business. Of course, some just like to use the form because we wouldn't do something that was illegal or not part of our job for them, but at least the clerk will have a chance to explain that to their supervisor.
Most of us like our jobs, believe it or not. We may not like our supervisors,:), but we do like our jobs. We do want to do the best for you the customer.:)

Sorry for the long post....:)

Quote: "We may not like our supervisors".....You think???;)

Yep, ez we've had a couple of your supervisors come up at here in the past from Florida. Thought we'd NEVER get rid of one of them.:) Luckily, Hattiesburg now has him. Though, I'm sure yours are as dumb as ours. It's a 'management' thing I guess!:)

P.S. of course we shipped one of ours down to Pensacola. I hope you guys are 'enjoying' him.:)

That is why I sign up for e-mail billing and payment when a company offers it. I have to only send checks to a few local companies now. Speaking of Richmond, VA. We had a boat loan with a bank there a few years ago (SunTrust). No matter when I sent the check, it almost always got there late. Sometimes it took 2 weeks. I had to switch to FedEx to pay that one.

We had a letter carrier at work that would just throw the mail on the ground outside the front door and walk off. We had to send someone to the PO to drop off the outgoing mail. Luckily he was the sub. We spoke to the Post Master and regular carrier and they reasigned him. Wonder who he is doing that to now?
