Okay kids here is the scoop on the returning of pins and why it’s gotten so hard. I just got off the phone with Disney and this is what I was told.

Disney dumped a lot of old merchandise into company D and the outlet stores, they had a major problem with both cast members and the general public buying these pins at a discount and trying to exchange them for other pins at the original price.

Okay here we go its like this, you know the thread I put on about the Epcot pins at the outlet store that sold for $10.50 and are now $5.99… Well some not so nice people bought a bunch hopped in their car, went to Disney and tried to exchange them at the original $10.50 price for other pins. You see without a receipt exchanging is all you can do.

Another problem a Disney oops of major proportions, they left the original SKU number on those pins they dumped and discounted and they do ring up at the original price. Please note I am not accusing anybody of anything don’t flame me with emails saying my friend is a cast member, or a pin trader and would never do such a thing I have a lot of cast members and pintraders as friends, and I know they would not do this, but there are a lot of people out there that would and did, some got caught some did not.

How is it fixed? Disney sent a catalog to the registers ALL OF THEM! Listing the pins and merchandise that was discounted or dumped at Company-D. What happens if you try to return discounted pins for full price? BYE BYE your pin trading days on Disney property has just come to end, and if you work for the mouse your next phrase is would you like fries with that sir.

Now the rest of the story on returning pins.

First there is no time limit on pin exchanges, but if your pin is discounted and you do not have the receipt… big bad here the most you can get is the discounted price. Yea it has gotten that bad. So if you have a bunch of Epcot pins and you don’t have a receipt the most you will get is $5.99. Sorry blame the bad apples and Disney for not removing the SKU number off those pin. I bet there is a Disney exec looking for a job right about now.

Soooooo! Lets remember some simple rules.

If you buy pins keep the original back and receipt that way you can return exchange whatever you desire.

Most will buy a pin and take it the card and put it in the ole trade book, this makes it hard to return if you don’t have the original card and SKU number. The SKU number tells the computer what the pin is also how much it cost.

Now you have the pin and the card as well as the receipt… good for you you’re a smart pin trader. Now you can return it for cash credit back to your card or exchange it for new stuff. YAY!!! New pins.

Okay but Ed you say I have the pin the card and no receipt well nuts. Alas you can only exchange it for other pins… As long as you owe money to Disney at the end of the transaction that is. They will not and cannot refund you money without a receipt. If your pin has been discounted the most you will get is the discounted price, and a dirty look.

My bad Ed I only have the pin no card no receipt… Dude! I’m afraid all you can do is trade that puppy, no return no exchange, that’s final.

You see they need that SKU number to input it into the register, without that number they can accept it back into the system. The only time a pin may be refused is if the SKU number is so old that’s its out of the system, but a manager can do an override and get you the money or exchange. As long as it not on the discounted list.

Just another FYI if you have a bunch of cards, but don’t know what card goes with what pin, PINPICS you know Figgy’s site… I think she thinks I’m a hottie :teeth:anyway PINPICS has the pins SKU number on the pin information page. Putting the wrong pin on the wrong card is a no no right now, trust me.

Disclaimer:

Don’t kill the messenger! the information came from some Disney high muckety mucks. This was a problem caused by stupidity and greedy people. Those of you with bags o-pins to return and no receipt, If your pin has been discounted you have a problem keep them its not worth the hassle don’t try to argue this, you can t win sorry they wont be able to change the rules for one or a few.

Don’t ruin your vacation over an argument at a register its not worth it, and please don’t get upset with Disney for discounting the pins… I’m not selling out here, but Disney is a corporation designed to make money, as any corporation does if you have a dead inventory taking up space, you sell it at a discount, or for a loss… they did just that they were nice to offer it to the public, unfortunately the greedy stepped in and killed it for the rest of us. Now those are the ones you need to get angry with. My views not Corporate.

Ed,
thanks or the info.
Thank heavens I am a pack rat and save everything. I have my receiptsfor thepins I am returning from the event that I couldn't trade, sell or give awy. Peggie

Are sure Ed -- How many pins did they give you to post this? ;) :jester:
Actually, I think it is reasonable. I think it is what most businesses would follow. We have all returned something at a store at one time to find out it is much chepaer, and discovered it was GOOD to have the receipt!
See -- us people who don't get into the parks often covet our receipts as trophies to prove we once were there! :jester:

I'm like Peggie..i save all my receipts...even for food purchases...(I think I save those to look back at and say "Did I REALLY pay THAT!!!!!!) but it should be a lesson learned...Keep everything to do w/ our pins..backs, and receipts....we never know if we are going to want to return it....(other things Disney too)

Thanks for the info. We think Disney should have
had this procedure from the beginning. It should
be a regular procedure with any retail item. Or
if you do not have a receipt and received them as
a gift, maybe they could also give you a gift receipt?
Like at Target......

But out of all of this we do see that the higher addition
size pins are showing up at the outlets and we hope
that Disney sticks to more lower addition size pins
(I think it keeps it exciting, and we LOVE the mystery
pin releases!!!)

Also, Donna, did you get to see the LADY AND THE TRAMP
topiary pin!!!! from the Flower and Garden Festival........

Hope to see you all soon!!!

Take Care

Dana :)

Good info Ed...thanx for passin' it along...

Dana, you love the Mystery pin releases?!? I take that to mean that you LOVE your Twirl Mania?!? ;) Wear it proudly girlfriend!!!

Buggin'
Amber

BtW...Congrats on 1000 posts Ed!!! :bounce::bounce::bounce:

And I hope to be able to pick some up...(and of course save my receipt) In fact I love all those pins....they match the lanyard pins, make a cute framed set...

What if you have a receipt but no pin and no card, can I go back to Disney and have them replace the pin and/or card? I'm thinking I might just collect the receipts, they are smaller and lighter AND you don't get stopped at the airport if you have a pin bag filled with just receipts.

Being worn proudly!!!! Thank you again!!!!

Word on the streets is Disney is pulling the LE's from the outlet stores!!!

Good Morning,

We went to our disney outlet store here in
S. FL last night.

They did still have the LE's available. We will
be going again tomorrow night and I will
let you know if they are still out.

Dana :)

What they need to do is call all pins "collectibles" and require a receipt for any returns and put a 30 day limit on all returns/exchanges. This is what Disney was forced to do with the beanies, and it is the only thing that got it (the buying and returning) under control.

Sorry if this post offends anyone, I am a pin trader AND a Disneystore CM, and I see the crazy things guests sometimes do.......... It is a little easier for us in the stores, as we discount the pins faster, so returns without receipt would give back very little credit after a few months.

We were at the mall this afternoon, we went
by the disney outlet to check on the pin
situation here.

They are still all out on the racks (the LE's)?

We have a meet there tomorrow, so we will
check again to see if anything has changed
and report back.

Take care and have a great evening!!! We
are having WDW withdrawls and it has only
been 6 days!!!!

Dana :)
