I've been watching Alamo's rates for our trip in mid August (18-27) and it has been climbing steadily for the last 3 months. I booked a convertible back in Feb using a company provided code (Lifecare) and the Ent Book $25 coupon and got it for $193 total. Same car, same dates, same codes is now up to over $450.

Is it really going to be that busy in August that the rates are going up that much instead of down like they usually do as you get closer?

Any else seeing this same thing???

I saw this as well, but for late June early July. (See my post a few posts down). What I rented for $269 total is noe over $450+.

I just went back to Alamo's site and the price went up again. Now, the price for 10 days for a premium car (with the Costco code) is $587. I paid $267 2 nights ago. I tried making the same reservation without any codes and it was actually cheaper than using Costco. It was $521. I am sure their rates went up, but there must be something wrong with the site or something.

I couldn't believe the rates for an economy for almost the same time period (8/16-8/22) when I checked last week and decided to look around more for a better deal (yeah, right - only one company beat Alamo's quote, and not by much). Luckily, a relative has offered to pick me up at the airport, and I'll just pay for a one-way cab or towncar on the return. You know something's just plain wrong when the rental car cost is double the airfare!!

I've been watching both National and Alamo for mid-August and haven't seen anything worth booking yet. Hopefully the prices will get better as we get further into summer. August is generally a slow month and often the sales are better. It's just a wait and see attitude right now.

I'm with you, n2mm. I've been watching National/Alamo and waiting for the past 3 months for something worth booking for my Aug trip. The prices they are quoting now are just ridiculous :rotfl2: . Hopefully, the further into the summer we go, the cheaper the prices will be. :rolleyes1

We too are traveling Aug 18-26 and I booked Thrifty back in Feb for $155 per week for a Premium and have been checking back to see if the rate has lowered. It just keeps going up and up. I don't rent cars very often so I didn't know if this was the norm. For those who haven't booked yet I would try checking every day. The rates do change from day to day so sooner or later, maybe you can catch a day where it drops.

My 8/22-8/29 rental is reserved for 130$ - mid size at thrifty - Last two years I have gotten better cars or rates - I keep watching the rates go up.. WRONG DIRECTION.

I got antsy about airfare too. So I booked.... I expect super sales to be released any day now :)
