I booked a site for the Fourth of July and am thinking of trying to reserve something in the 1500 loop... I like the canal behind and a short bike ride to the meadows... What's your favorite tent loop?

If I was going to tent camp, that's the loop I'd go to! I've seen people tent camp in the premium sites too, but it's strange to see people spend all that money to put a tent there. But, I'm sure they have a good reason! The tent sites on the other side of the cabins seem so far away from everything.

I agree, do you know what number site are in the back of the loop? Ones that back up to the canal?

If I had seen this post this morning, I would have looped over there and given you the site numbers! There is a good aerial map somewhere on this camping board that has the site numbers, but when you request your loop, just put Loop 300 on the outside. When we get to the Fort each visit, we drive around and if we see a site we like best in that loop or where we can get a better satellite signal, we just call the front desk and tell them we needed to move to a more accessible site.

We've never done that, but we know a ton of people that do it and as long as no one is in the site and it's been cleaned by the maintenance crew, they normally don't have an issue with it.

Thanks who can I call to request the site? Should i call reservations or should I call the forts front desk?

Also I found the picture I'm going to try and get 1513 or 1511

There are only three sites that back up against the big canal in back.

1513 narrow site only as wide as drive and sand pad. But opens up in back nicely toward the canal. Stayed here at Thanksgiving 2009.

1511 the motherlode site. Has a locked gate for Fort CMs to drive up by canal if needed but they rarely do. So it makes the site feel REALLY big.

1510 has two trees on the sand pad. It's a picture postcard site.

Other sites 1514-1521 Outside are on the small side canal but you really dont feel like you are next to the water since it's further away. We were in 1521 last visit which was a great site close to the loop entrance.

If you want a canal site dont specifty a specific site number. Ive asked for a "canal site" and gotten one several times.

Also the Fourth is a rare busy summer period at the Fort so it might be tougher to get into 1500 period.

There's a loop request form here somewhere with verbiage and the fax number, but I also noticed there is a space to request a loop on the online check in. We stopped using the fax request a couple of years ago. I will typically check in online and go in to check in while DH is unloading the golf cart in the overflow lot to make sure everything is okay. This last time, we did the drive thru check out and she asked if we would be happy with the site we were assigned or did we want another. And it was very busy. They will accommodate if they can.

Another tip is to try and get there @ noonish to check in and you'll have more sites to choose from of the guests that left that morning. People start checking in early when sites are available.

I call the reservation line and ask for a request to be added to my reservation. Past requests of mine have been:

- loop 900
- loop 1500
- canal site
- close to beach
- close to comfort station
- backside of loop
- close to bus stop
- close to pool

And various combinations of these. If the request is on your ressie the Fort assigner will try their best to honor it.

Thanks for the feed back, I'm going to call this week to request 1500 canal site... Hopefully we can get it. Almost everytime I go its in the 2000 loop way away from everything

Thegoofyfamily is correct about checking in early. It defintely can help you get 1500. Even if you are early in the morning checking in, ask for a 1500 site even if you have to wait on it. You CANT be bumped if you have already checked in. Lots of Partial site folks ask for 1500. Every guest is preassigned a site number and if you were pre-assigned to 1500 and arrived late, some who arrived before you and requested 1500 at checkin could be given your site. So you would get bumped to 2000 loop and never even know it. So early bird gets the worm literally.

Having said that, i've stayed in 2000 and 1500 on the previous two visits and they have both been great trips. I always ask for 1500 and try to arrive as early as possible. The time i got 2000 i looped thru 1500 on my way to the site and every site had someone on it. So the Fort CMs do try to get you on 1500 if one is available.

Any trip to the fort is a good trip, I don't care where your site is! I've never had a "bad" site... Just some are better than others. I only live 45 min from the fort so I definitely will be there by 10am to request a site.

How are the bugs in that loop? Being by water I didn't know it that would have more mosquito's.

Ya I just googled wilderness lodge 1500 loop and i found it
