What's to become of the Disneyland Dream Suite?

I didn't know it had been open for that long. I thought they transformed it to the suite for the YOAMD promo. :confused3

They transformed it for YOAMD. WDW made theirs in the castle and then they were told they needed to do one and they laughed and said "Uh not in our castle, we won't!" so they put it above Pirates.

Man, I would way, way rather get to spend time in Walt's apartment on Main Street than the Dream Suite! DL's first structure and the place Walt slept while he was creating DL...

I know CMs on rare occasions are given the honor of getting to visit the room but you could work there for 20 years and not get the opportunity.

Dream Suite is sweet but Walt's lair, that is pure Disney history!

You may want to, but they would either make some drastic changes to make it more kid-safe or the irreplaceable antiques (and other things) would run the risk of being destroyed by little kids (not every single child who could possibly have won is a perfect angel). I'm happy that they're able to preserve the apartment as a Walt time capsule.

I agree with you, I would rather the apartment is preserved for posterity in it's vintage and unscathed form (I was told they had to replace the carpeting some time ago because it had become old and moldy or something) even if that means I myself will never get to see it.

I was just saying it would be a very special honor to get to stay there.

AGREE 100%! Wow... I've had dreams where I've been in that apt - actually saw the original furniture, (in my dreams it was like a cream colored linen with really, really fine pinstripes of various colors throughout) and sat on the chesterfield and by the chair with ottoman (if there was such a thing!) I still recall the scent of the apartment, from my dream, too. The lady giving the tour turned out to be Lillian. I'd not seen photos of her, but when I later looked her up (on the internet), I was really spooked. Not kidding. The lady of my dreams seemed to be the same as Lillian Disney. (In my dream, I was with a tour group, and this lady knew I should be with them, but did make me feel really comfortable to sit and chat with her a bit, and touch/feel the furniture. I was in awe of it all.) After I met with her, in my dreams, I ran back to the tour bus, but couldn't find anyone in my group, LOL. But I do feel I met her in my dreams. I'm not a psychic, nor do I pretend to be. I'm not crazy, either. But I do believe that dreams have a way of speaking to us, if we listen to them. Recently, I had a dream about an acquaintance of mine; I had not seen her for over 5 years or more... she had been in a wheelchair when I knew her. When I dreamed of her, she was *very* happy, healthy, and walking... 2 days later I read her obituary and although saddened, just knew she was o.k. in Heaven. I just knew it. I don't know what the pull is for me for Disneyland. I live in Alberta, Canada, and have been there 7 times now in my entire life, and feel very lucky to have done so in my 39 years. Something pulls me there like no other place. I dream of it a lot. In my dreams, it isn't really Disneyland; it's close, but not quite the same... and sadly, in my dreams, it is always the last day of our parkhopper, and we're heading home the next day, then I realize we haven't ridden the rides yet that we wanted to. (Like the Haunted Mansion, Splash Mountain, etc.) The rides are always different though, and sadly, nothing looks quite right in the dreams.

(Do you DISers who are local know how lucky you are to be in that area?) You are very, very blessed. Please take a whiff of the fresh air, and take a look at the bright blue skies when you're there the next time, for me. In a cold, Northern climate, with icy roads, tons of snow, and bone chilling grey cold, with icy winds blowing, nothing could seem more comforting now to me than a warm cuppa' Disneyland. :):cheer2:

I think the pull may be in the fact that Mr. Disney himself has built an entire beautiful community/land based on dreams. I have taught my kids that when they dream, all things are possible. I think maybe, what with our having a 12 year old son with an anxiety disorder/aspergers, it is especially important to my family to know that dreams should always prevail. Thanks, Mr. Walter Disney, for showing us what life is all about. :)

You know, I think they should continue to give it away daily. Why not find a family and give them that gift? I mean, how amazing would that be? And why spend all that $$ and then not use it anymore, and no one wants to TOUR it, we want to stay there. They need to continue that particular Dream.

And I wouldn't want to stay in Walt's apt. I want that to be preserved, to stay the way it was. I would worry too much if they started letting people stay there.

I honestly would like to see it opened up to people being able to rent the dream suite. While I know this will not be a popular opinion, seriously saving up all my nickles and dimes is probably the only way I will ever get to stay in the suite since I am just not lucky with these types of contests. Better normal people having a shot then only the VIP's getting all the fun!

BTW I have to say in some ways I am happy that they did the suite. It was the original design for the space, they used some of the artwork to create the suite and that to me seems sort of a cool circle in itself, though I do miss going to the gallery.

ETA: Walt's Apt should stay as is! Cleaned, with basic up keep and an occassional photo shoot to share the importance of the apt, without ruining the rooms with too much traffic! I think too many visiters would be damaging, I think pictures are a great way to go, that is much safer!

So I guess this is a good enough place to mention this LOL

DH has enthusiastically latched onto my idea of recreating some of the dream suite in our home. I mean it's a huge memory for us now. LOL

Now, if only I could afford the fiber optics. Hmmmm

The Dream Suite is still being offered to charitable groups for their use. The CHOC Walk In The Park (chocwalk.org) which benefits CHOC Children's Hospital in Orange County, CA is offering a nights stay in the Dream Suite for four, 2 day park hoppers and dinner for 4 at Blue Bayou as a grand prize in a drawing that each walker who raises or donates $150 or more will be entered in to. The dates available for the stay are 10/25/09, 11/07/09, or 12/12/09. There is more info on the website, click on "walk info" on the left side and then "prizes" for information. Seems like this may give someone the best odds for getting a stay in the Dream Suite - and you're making a charitable donation to a great organization at the same time!

That is GREAT to hear!

We were fortunate enough to win a stay in the Dreamsuite in March 2008, during YOAMD. It was one of the most magical moments I have experienced. Being someone who grew up at Disney, I had imagined what it would be like to stay there. I was surprised when we actually won. The DreamSuite is truly incredible and more than I had imagined. So much of it comes to life, one night was not enough to truly experience all it had to offer. Watching Fantasmic from the balcony was incredible. Truly the best seats! The CM's were top notch Jaime, JJ, Jarod, and Chris were all fabulous. It's sad to think that YOAMD is no longer. It would be wonderful if they would bring it back.

What's the point of preserving walt's apartment if no one gets to see it!!! They should open it up to the public as a special tour...

Wow- that is so great! That makes 2 Dis-ers (that I know of) that won the Dream Suite stay! :yay:

I'm another one that misses the Gallery and watching Fantasmic from the balcony. I never got to stay in the Dream Suite, but I was able to tour it before they started making it available for the YOMD giveaway. It's very magical. :cloud9:
