Just wondering so many great stories about Disney cruises. Has anyone had a bad experience with disney or the excursions they offer

I've had a problem with the Disney excursion for the snorkeling trip. It seems that it just isn't in the cards for me. The first year I booked it, I didn't feel well and couldn't go, the second year there was too much rain and it was canceled and then last year it was canceled for lack of enough participants. I'm not sure if I'll try again this year. :scratchin

My DS (12 at the time) fainted and fell on the ground during the Tulum excursion in Mexico. Of course that wasn't DCL's fault. We never figured out why it happened.

Worst DCL excursion we've done was in Acapulco on our PC cruise. The tour itself wasn't bad, but the guide was (IMO) awful!

She sat in the front seat of the bus, facing forward and basically read the script at full speed. Never asked if there were questions, or even if anyone could hear her. Seemed totally uninterested in whether we were getting anything out of the tour or not.

We had a bad experience with first aide. I was being dumb and didn't drink any water on Castaway Cay (biking, snorkeling, sunning, running, massage, great day.) and then we decided to do the Aquaduct, then decided to go have a couple drinks. And apparently I was "dehydrated" and had "sunstroke," add booze.... I fell within 10 feet of the bar (it was a really bad fall too because my uncle said there was a woman who saw it and she looked shocked that I jumped up. I jumped up like an Olympic champ, probably not the best thing to do...). Long story short: went to health center, they said it would be $220 to even walk in the door, they don't accept health insurance, and me being the crying drunk girl said no.

Went to dinner, after a 9 hour flight home (Orlando to Chicago, 3 hour layover, Chicago to Seattle) then a 2 hour shuttle ride back to our island, at 0145 drove myself to the ER where my right ankle was "severely sprained" and "you're lucky you didn't break it." Went to the hospital I work at, the ER doc is a family friend, and got a lot of "you know this isn't a competition with your sister..." (my sister had broken the same foot 4 months before 12+bones in 12+places). What did I learn? Drink water and pack a first aid kit for the next cruise.

On ferry ride back from Playa del Carmen to Cozumel, my daughter (at the time 4) threw up on me. Luckily, I had a bathing suit on under my shirt so i took the shirt off and put it in a bag. Got off the ferry and threw the bag in the nearest trashcan.

For the benefit of anyone else reading this: Just because the on-board Health Center doesn't accept insurance for payment doesn't mean that your insurance isn't valid. Check your policy before you go. If it's valid when you travel outside the United States, then you just have to pay the health center in cash or credit card while on board, then submit the paperwork to your insurance for reimbursement once you get home.

Good to know. Thanks!

I really only enjoyed about 50% of our last/first cruise but am determined so we are going again. It wasn't Disney's fault, just my "luck". Both kids didn't feel well, so little one was super clingy and he is never like that...barely any grown up time because of this. Husband got sick too but he pushed through it. Older son fell twice in kids club scraping his knee bad, which caused him pain at the beach. Older son got some weird rash on his face. Major fits from younger son cause me to be in tears a couple time, specifically one in the "jungle" on an excursion, which I was so looking forward to because it was my first time in Mexico etc. And I am a take no crap mommy but I was wore down. The KYSS bag everyone raved about?? Would not unlock from our chair on the beach. I know I had the right code. Tried everything. Caused a fight between me and hubby...one of the many. Had to have a guy from the island resort cut the lock off. Horrible. The worst part was at the port on the way home. I had saved $10 cash to tip a porter. Could not find it anywhere. No ATM's. We had 10 bags...yes, I over packed. My 8 yr old at the time was no help. It was hysterical to watch him try to roll his one suitcase. He was a mess. Hubby and I trying to move 10 bags at once because u can't leave them. It was awful. Ended up getting bags confiscated for leaving them near entrance for a minute. Finally after getting them back we asked a porter if he would take a check. He said yes so we paid him $20 to move the bags about 20 feet. I swear it was a nightmare. There were other things but these are the ones that stood out.
Planning our next cruise for February!!:rotfl:

Worst part of my DCL trip was when we were told to get off of the ship because our cruise was over.

My MIL, FIL, dh, dd and I all got Norwalk Virus. We were just glad my 5 month old dd didn't get it. We all got sick on Castaway Cay day and missed Pirate Night. All in all, we missed about a day and a half of our 4 day cruise, so dh and I decided that we had to book another. :thumbsup2 And my inlaws have already been on two since then. :sad2:

DS1 got a fever right before dinner on our second night to be in AP. Him and DH missed the show :( We also didn't cancel the nursery soon enough and got charged for that night.

DD8 lost her kids club band at some point in all the fun at CC. Looking back at pictures it seems as if it was late in the afternoon. We were some of the last people to leave CC and noticed while on the tram. The CM aboard the tram said not to worry about it, they wouldn't charge me since it was on CC they could find it. She was wrong! Left the ship with the hefty $50 fee :(

On the Magic in 2009 -- Caribbean cruise -- and my husband and I got sick by day 3 of a 7 day cruise. We always take antibiotics with us and started downing them right away (it was that bad -- fever, swollen glands, etc.). We spent two days in bed with our poor daughter waiting on us hand and foot. Got to CC and tried it -- it is my husband's favorite part of the cruise. He didn't last an hour and I followed closely behind. My 23 year old could have stayed on the adult island, but she chose to go back with me. I feel she got the raw end of the deal on that one. Post-cruise we were going to Disney for three days and had a towncar service -- all we did was hack and cough the whole three days with blurry eyes and chills. Honestly the worst vacation ever as far as sickness goes.

[FYI -- second WORST experience was the hydraboat we had to take from Sorrento to Capri -- horribly fast and nauseating. Thought it would never end.]

Myself and our son got sick (Norovirus or was it Cabo Wabo?) on our Mexican cruise a few years ago. Stuck in bed all day Friday and we were to get off the ship Saturday. Had to be quarantined for the day so we cancelled our talk with DVC (we joined a few years later). My husband and daughter are both very healthy and were not bothered by whatever my son and I had. My daughter got sick on the Pirate boat in Puerto Vallarta on the same cruise but recovered once we were back on board (all of the rocking made her sick).

Most recently I slipped down a flight a stairs after our first breakfast (from outside of Topsider's to the landing) and twisted my ankle. Went to the medical center and then spent the rest of the cruise hobbling around.

On another DCL cruise we witnessed a drunk threatening physical harm to his traveling companion and security had to be called....a screaming match ensured outside our cabin between the drunk & his companion. Security took him away and we did not see him around the rest of the cruise. He was scary.

And then one DCL cruise the ship had to stop to offer aid to a boatload of refugees....that was very sad as it was semi-formal night and everyone was dressed up and it was in such contrast compared to the poor people in the rowboat who apparently were escaping Cuba and did not want to be picked up by the Coast Guard. They all jumped into the water when the Coast Guard cutter arrived. Everyone was looking over the railing on Deck 4 and it was depressing to witness.

And then yet on another DCL cruise years ago some teen jumped off Deck 4 into St. Thomas harbor on a dare. He was found out when he tried to get back onboard soaking wet and his KTTW card showed he never left the ship. Captain was NOT happy and remanded him to the custody of his parents for the rest of cruise. He could not be anywhere without them.

And of course there was the "fire cruise" (we were not on that one). There was a smokestack fire and everyone had to put on their lifevests and assemble by the lifeboats.

Edited to add: Don't know how I forgot this one....on one of our DCL cruises my father went on a kayak excursion with others and the winds picked up as they were paddling back to the excursion boat. One gentleman boarded the excursion boat then fell down and passed away from a heart attack. All the other excursion guests were very shook up and had to give statements as to what they witnessed. My father was very upset but kept wondering how the poor man's family must have felt.
