We are going to WDW 10/10-10/18. What's the weather like and is there anything special going on during that time at WDW?

Typically still very warm, but the humidity isn't bad. Very little rain, but it can get cool without warning, so always good to pack some layers. MNSSHP and Food and Wine will both be going on. We go in October every year, and it is great. You will have moderate crowd levels due to school Fall breaks, but not huge when compared to summer.

That's great to hear. I couldn't find a WDW calendar on the WDW site to see what events were going on during that week so I wasnt sure if the food and wine is still going on. Thanks :thumbsup2

Are kids allowed to wear costumes for the MNSSHP?

It's the one time a year everyone is allowed to wear costumes at the park.

You are still limited to not a costume that may be mistaken for a Cast Member, nor can you have costumes that are offensive (only G rated costumes).

This may help.

We went in October several years ago, and I feel like the highs were 85 or so. But last year, in early October, it felt so much worse.

For some, it's not a vacation if it's not hot, but not us. We thought it was unbearably hot and humid in 2013. Per the above, it looks like it was much nicer mid-month. I hope you get that weather and not what we got.

Food and Wine festival is fun!

The list of rules for costumes is in post #1 of my guest list thread linked above. The rules are written in red. A party ticket will gain you entry to MK at 4pm, but the party officially starts at 7pm.

We've been to WDW in October for 10+ years now and generally its very good weather. Last year (2013) was abnormal in our experience in that it was very hot and humid. Normally, its comfortable shirtsleeve weather without the high humidity.

Pretty much the second week of October signals the start of the nicer months of the year, the temperatures start to cool off, humidity drops and the daily rain goes away. But since this is the time you see the weather start to change you're still in the borderline of the weather patterns so you could still get highs near 90 as well as rain. The popular Orlando events during this month are the Food and Wine festival at Epcot,MNSSHP at Magic Kingdom,Halloween Horror nights at Universal and the Halloween event at Sea World aimed at kids.

Last year we were there the following week and the humidity was quite high until the last 2 days of our trip when the dew points dropped. Most of our trip the "feels like" temp was in the upper 90's and in the low 80's the last 2 days. Of course, the "feels like" temp can be much higher than the actual with high dew points factored in, so the actual temps can be very deceiving, especially if you're not used to the tropical FL humidity.

Be mindful when selecting costumes that it's still very warm in Florida in the evening; I wouldn't pick the same costume to wear that I might pick in other parts of the country unless I was ready to endure being sweaty and hot in it.
