I'm trying to plan a trip next year for my family. Can you tell me what the weather is like in August? Is it unbearablely hot? Or would early June be better? :confused3

It's very hot & humid. We've gone in mid-August several times. The heat is not what drains you, it's the humidity. If you can resign yourself to touring during the cooler hours (early morning and evening), then it's very manageable. The advantage to going in August vs. June is that the crowds are lighter.

"92 and very humid with localized afternoon showers", every day. The weather man even takes the month off ;)

Hot, Hot, Hot! Humid, Humid, Humid! I discovered the disboards when I was planning for our late August trip. It was totally spur of the moment and I needed help! This board was a lifesaver.

We enjoyed our August trip, but it was because of the tips the kind people on these boards gave me. We did the early morning/evening thing on most days. We had the fan-squirt bottles for each kid. We drank plenty of water and ate many sit down lunches in the air conditioning!! Letting the kids unwind at the pools was essential, too! Oh, and don't forget the sunscreen--sunburn would have definitely ruined the trip. We spent a lot of time in the sun.

I wouldn't avoid August...just be prepared. We had a lovely time!

It's HOT, but not unmanageable. It will probably rain for a short while every day or so. Lots of people had the spray fans, but if you want to use one buy one before you leave, the WDW are expensive, my son thinks they were $11. We didn't use those. One good thing about WDW is several lines for rides are indoors or at least shaded. One trick we used to manage the heat was going through stores to take advantage of the A/C (hint: the stores at the front of MK and MGM are connected and open to each other all the way to near the exit of the park so you can be cool AND miss the crowds on the street). We came back to the hotel to swim in the afternoon when it was hottest. When it gets hot, find a place you can eat inside...the CS places have A/C and if you have an ADR it's a great way to relax in the cool comfort. We also found that we could get free ice water from any stand selling pop (or soda or whatever you call it where you are). Some people have complained about the taste of the water, I didn't notice anything. You could also get just ice in a cup for free.

Lizzybee's tips are good ones. I forgot about the free ice or ice water! We brought the fan/ water bottles from home (Walgreens--cheap!) and they kept my two year old entertained. The six and nine year olds loved them too. But they are expensive at the parks...I can't remember how much but I remember thanking the DIS for the tip to bring 'em not buy 'em at WDW.

The other tip that was helpful regarding the afternoon rainshowers was the one that advised us to buy disposable rain ponchos as the dollar store. It was so nice not to have to fold up a wet poncho and carry it around in my backpack. This worked when we went in December, too...we used them for Splash Mtn. when it was chilly--we didn't have to walk around cold and wet after the ride (one of my DD9's favorite rides...)

Have fun!
