What's the story behind coins dropped throughout "It's a Small World?"

Speaking of two year olds throwing coins, our last trip we were on the boat with a couple who child was getting tired and started a mini melt down, the dd tossed one penny in the water and like magic the baby laughed so hard that it made us roll laughing, the dd gave the baby pennies to toss and lets just say he had us busting a gut, it was really so cute, something so simple made him so happy, he didn't want to get off the boat. Stupid things like that are really priceless.

As long as the money isn't harming the ride mechanism, and no one bothers anyone else while doing it (tossing coins AT the dolls would bother me!) I say why not?

But does anyone know if the coins gunk up the water flow machine, etc? Are the boats floating 100%, or is there a guide rail underneath the boats? I'd hate to clog up the ride mechanism, and get stuck on there for an hour or so... :scared1:

We are looking forward to tossing coins in IASW. My DS is just old enough to get it.

Back in June on the KTTK tour our guide told us that the money from all waterways at Disney is cleaned up 2 times a year and donated.

That's great! It's a double bonus. It makes the kids happy to toss the coins in the water, and it helps people too!:thumbsup2
And I'm sure Disney doesn't mind us tossing more money at them....LOL!:lmao:
