What's the smallest commercial airport you've used?

Just thinking of the good old days when we were still flying. I'm not necessarily thinking of "charters" that might use general aviation airports, but real airports with security, gates, etc. I haven't really been to too many small airports around the US and the world, but I have been to a few. I don't mean the length of the runway, but the ground facilities for passengers. On my trips to Asia I've been to some tiny airports with less than 5 gates. Kona Airport might have been the smallest domestic airport I've been to.

Probably Hays, Kansas. Very exciting business trips to Hays, as you can imagine. 🤣 I arrived there by commercial airline and by private charter. Since it's been years, I just checked their website. They now have two flights a day!

Krasnoyarsk Cheremshanka Airport In Krasnoyarsk, Russia. It looks like it has been rebuilt since I was there. (I was there in 2001. It was destroyed by fire in 2011.) When I was there, there were no “gates.” There was a check-in counter and waiting area, but you had to board your plane from the tarmac. Also, for arriving flights, there was no “baggage claim” like we know it. They just made a pile of luggage and you had to dig through to find yours.

We were on a big plane, too -- 7 seats across with 2 aisles.

Johnstown, PA (JST). Only has puddle jumper service to IAD.

Jacksonville, North Carolina. But it wasn't the tiny airport that surprised me. It was all the military merch in the one shop. ;)

There were a few airports where I researched them. The Charles Schultz Sonoma County Airport in Santa Rosa has a single baggage claim area and I think two gates.

Once I got lost at Lake Tahoe Airport, which is just off of US-50. I saw the car rental parking lot. However, it's no longer used for regular commercial air travel. The terminal building is now South Lake Tahoe City Hall.

Naples, FL. It had commercial service years ago, but I’m pretty sure those flights were discontinued.

As far as I remember, the terminal was just a small building with limited amenities and flights were boarded from the tarmac.

Probably Kona International Airport for me as well.

No jetways and except for the bathrooms it was all outside. There is a roof over some but not all. We sat outside under the stars waiting for our flight to the US to end our vacation.

Long Beach (LGB) before the remodel was REALLY small. I've flown out of there even back before they added the temporary spring-form terminals and it was all art deco. That was THE BEST! The surface parking back then was "park and stroll". It was so cheap to park there ($5/day) that we'd go to the airport to rent a nicer car to go on a road trip and leave our other car there. Now it's still got that small airport feel but a lot more gates - and the parking is more expensive. Besides that, the smallest airport I've ever flown into was probably Lihui (LIH) on Kauai. That's another favorite of mine.

Asheville, NC (AVL) I flew in on a turbo prop with a front propeller once. My sister asked, if they had to manually crank the propeller to get it moving. Flying in & out of there at night was really creepy. Everything was closed & most of the lights were turned off. The passengers on your plane were the only people there. It's been a several years, since I've used that airport. I don't know, if it's still the same.

They have two Naples Airports, right? I'm finding a "Naples Municipal Airport" that does have limited commercial flights.

Either the airports in Martha’s Vineyard, MA, or Newport News, VA.
Both are too small for me to “evah” travel to those locales via air again.

I need more than a single aisle and a thin curtain separating the pilot from the passengers to feel comfortable in the air. Insert massive shudder.

I’m only aware of one airport in Naples. I suppose commercial service was reestablished.

The plane I took to Naples from Tampa and back was very small, maybe 15 seats, one seat on each side of the center aisle. There was no separate cockpit; the pilots were in full view of the passengers. The co-pilot gave the safety announcements and loaded/unloaded luggage. No restroom on board either.

I don’t remember the name of the airline, but it was a partner with USAir.
