When I was around 16 or so I couldn't figure out what to give my brother (then late 20's) and BIL (early 30s). My mom said to give her the cash and she'd find something when she went shopping. Imagine my suprise on christmas morning when brother opened a carton of cigarettes and BIL got a 6 pack of beer!!! :earseek: What's the strangest thing you've ever given someone else?

an antique parking meter - my DH (then boyfriend) had seen one somewhere and liked it. My office had one in our storage room. I bought it for $20. He LOVED it. Its now in our living room. It accepts pennies and nickels.

This year. I am giving my aunt some nearly 6ft tall lighted topiaries. She is either really going to love them or go what the heck!

My family has a strange uh-tradition. There is a Chia-pet that has been going around the family for about 20 years. Whoever gets it, re-wraps it and it goes to someone else.

It all started with a fruitcake. Doesn't everything?

$5 off coupon for Applebees :rotfl: is something I have recieved. I give good gifts or atleast I hope I do. :rotfl:

Stocking full of sticks spray painted.

What?

My dad kept saying all he wanted was a bag of sticks. :confused3

This wasn't a Christmas present, but oh well.

Last May, it was my friend's birthday. Some of my friends were giving her big giftbags of stuff. I relized I didn't get her anything. Since we were all at school at the time, I couldnt really get anything. So I frantically looked for something decent in my desk and then picked something. "Ihave the best gift for you!" I said. And then I handed her.... a pink crayon :rotfl: . She thought it was hilarious and told everyone it was the best gift she got.

A used WHITE bathing suit from a Thrift shop! (where's the vomit smiley)

I am not opposed to thrift shops....but some items should not be recycled, nor purchased as gifts for others!

One year, we got as a joke at a yankee swap a "fancy" flyswatter (it had a swirled handle on it and was really wide). Anyhow, it was "the" gift nobody wanted, lol. So we ended up with it. The next year we wrapped it back up with a scratch ticket on it. That ticket was a winning one of $50!

This year at my Bf's corporation Xmas party, I ended up with 2 gag gifts... Beef Jerky and a 12 pack of Amber Bach beer. Uhg...

We do something like this too only with a couple different items. One is a bottle of Night Train wine (ya know the kind that has the screw on lid?)and one is a huge size 12 pair of fuzzy pink slippers. They are usually just passed between my uncle, my DH, my brother and my Dad before he passed away. It's always fun.

The first year my DD & her DH were married I made a HUGE deal out of this bottle of wine that I gave my son-in-law.. Told him I buy "nothing but the best" and he should save it for a "special occasion"..

Imagine his surprise when he opened the box and found this bottle of wine - with a plain brown bag label - that read, "Cheap Red Wine"... He loved it - and still has it.. Guess a "special" enough occasion hasn't come up yet.. :rotfl:

I recieved a hideous hunting vest when I was 10 from my great aunt We were close. She was more like a grandparent. Of course, no one in my family hunts. She bought it for me because she thought it was stylish. Needless to say, it was never worn.

DH and a good buddy of his used to always go shopping together on Christmas Eve for "wife" gifts. They'd make many stops at local bars on the way. One year, just *before* we were married, I got a *ring*. Not a beautiful diamond engagement ring, oh no! This was the *band only* to a set. Didn't get the other part.... it wasn't available!!!! The really bad part about this was that it was VERY OBVIOUS that another ring was to be worn with it. :sad2: Also got a thunderously loud ice crusher. My friend lucked out and got one, too! :teeth: Remember, they stopped at bars before, during and after shopping!

That's been a long, long time ago. My friend and I have graduated to MUCH nicer gifts from our DH's...things we're proud to own and show off. It took a lot of training on our parts and lots of patience! ;)

Oh, and to answer the origional question, the oddest gift I've ever given was a CHESTNUT ROASTER. You don't see those every day. :teeth:

I can't think of any really odd gifts that I've given, but I've gotten a couple. One I probably shouldn't say. hehehe But the other one was the first Christmas that my then boyfriend, now husband spent with me (and my family). I was so looking forward to a nice gift and he seemed excited about giving it to me.Turns out, it was 2 Grab-it bowls. You know, the Corningware white storage bowls. Uh, how romantic... :rotfl: In defense of him, it was his first Christmas (he's Jewish) and I don't think that he had a clue about what a good gift would be. I'm glad he gave me that present, though, because we've gotten a laugh whenever we think about it--25 years of laughs was worth it! And we still have one of the bowls. :teeth: Any other present I would have forgotten.

Ziploc bags!! My wonderful MIL is also known as the Ziploc Queen - she loves them and uses them for everything! Through the Walter Drake catalog I found some different smaller size Ziplocs and put them in her stocking! They were her favorite gift!!

My friend and I always give each other oddball gifts each year. This year I bought her a Sigmund Freud Action Figure. :earboy2:

Well, this year I'm doing my niece's mending. :rotfl: That's the gift she and her husband requested. I also gave them a copy of a great picture of my dad (who died a few years ago & this was a picture none of us had seen before) nicely framed and a check for them to go out to dinner. :teeth:

Weirdest gift I've ever received is my yearly gift from dd of a bag of beef jerky. :rotfl: I hate beef jerky; she loves it. I not only get it for Christmas but also for my birthday. I'm the luckiest mom ever.
