Six years ago Gary and I accompanied my sister and her family on their first trip to WDW. It was a special trip to celebrate Joseph (then age 5 1/5) having finished a year of chemotherapy and weeks of radiation for rhabdomyosarcoma. He was still very weak and didn't have much hair. We pushed him around in a wheelchair loaned to the family by the Contemporary Resort. His older brother, Nate, was also celebrating his 8th birthday on this particular day. We went to the wheelchair entrance of Star Tours and waited for a CM. We waited for several minutes and were then ushered around a corner. Seemingly from nowhere Chewbacca appeared, hugged both boys, spoke "wookie" to them, and posed for pictures. I'm sure someone noticed Joseph's condition and his wheelchair but Nate was sure that somehow the Disney magic had worked for Chewy to appear on his birthday as he was his favorite Star Wars character.
On the same trip we had dinner at Chef Mickey's. Joseph's cap fell off his head as one of the servers was passing. She didn't say a word, just looked at him for a few seconds. Very soon all the characters came out, the music started and they danced around Joseph and eventually got him up to dance with them. My sister and I were crying like fools with joy that he had the energy to dance, that Disney Magic was once again afoot and that Joseph was grinning from ear to ear.
