What's the most beautiful song you've ever heard?

"Nessum Dorma" from Turnadot, esp when performed by Pavarotti. Simply beautiful!

Annie's Song by John Denver. Such a beautiful love song.

Two of my favorites are
Israel Kamakawiwo'ole - Somewhere Over The Rainbow
Billy Joel- You're My Home

The Iz song makes me cry every time I hear it. It's because the first two times I heard it were both at funerals for people my age (18 and 20 at the time) Now my family has all of Iz's albums and I  his music, but that song still makes me sob uncontrollably. I think it's partly his timbre, and maybe because he knew at that point that he wasn't going to be around much longer - it's his most bittersweet and pure recording I think. Good choice.

I Will Follow YOu Into The Dark by Death Cab For Cutie makes me bawl like a baby.

Also Hey There Delilah by The Plain White Tees

Another song that doesn't really make me cry, but it's one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard is
These Photographs by Joshua Radin (search it on myspace if interested. its wonderful)

Also The Portrait by James Horner off the titanic soundtrack...beeeautiful

Really good, but I prefer "With or Without You" by them.

:thumbsup2

Also I love "I Can't Make You Love Me" by Bonnie Riatt. It's just such a raw emotion song. So real and relatable.

"I'll Stand By You" by The Pretenders ranks high for me.

In My Daughter's Eyes (I think it's by Martina McBride? I don't really remember.) But, right after DD was born, I heard this song & just lost it. It's so beautiful.

"Leader of the Band" by Dan Fogelberg. I cry everytime I hear it. It reminds me of my Dad whom I admire more than anything.

I am really terrible at remembering song titles...but a few of the ones I will listen to every time they are on are:

Kiss from a Rose...Seal
Who Wants to Live Forever....Queen
Just the Two of Us....Will Smith (not beautiful from a music perspective, but I just love that song)
Killing me Softly...Roberta Flack
Ave Maria....Aretha Franklin

There are sooooo many songs that totally tug at my heart strings. But I'll just stick with three:

Song #1 that comes to mind first is Garth Brooks' "The Dance".

My brother's first wife had lukemia since she was a little girl. She never had bone marrow surgery for whatever reason, but finally decided to have it done after they were married. The odds were much better than they were when she was younger. Unfortunately the odds still were not in her favor. :sad1:

So, every time I hear the song "The Dance", it reminds me of how awesome my brother is to have fallen in love with her and make her dreams come true by taking her hand in marriage even though he knew she was terminally ill. I love that I got the chance to know her because she was such a sweet person!

Sorry if I caused any teary eyes...but I just wanted to share my song and my reason.

Song #2 - James Blunt's "Beautiful"...it reminds me of my Grandma (I lost her in January 2006)...she was beautiful and for some reason some of the lyrics in that song remind me of her...it always brings a smile to my face...I'd rather smile when I think of her than cry...she would want it that way.

And last but not least another beautiful song is "I knew I loved you before I met you" by Savage Garden....I sang it to my children while I was still pregnant with them.

"Leader of the Band" by Dan Fogelberg. I cry everytime I hear it. It reminds me of my Dad whom I admire more than anything.
I went, just now, to a song lyric site to read the lyrics because everyone talked about that song when he died and you just said you thought it was so beautiful.

Hadn't heard it since 198...not sure, but it's been 20 years or more.

I always thought it was a stupid song and couldn't believe how many people brought it up when he died or that you'd list it here, so I went to re-read the lyrics. All I remembered was, "The leader of the band has died and his eyes are growing old, but his blood runs through my instrument and his song is in my soul." Always thought that eyes didn't grow old after someone died, therefore it was a stupid song. :snooty:

Who's the stupid one?! Not "has died", but "is tired." It is a beautiful song. My dad is dying.

I have tears in my eyes. But they won't fall - not a cryer. Moving on now before there are tears. :)

I love that song.

Some songs I think are beautiful:

Why Worry, by Dire Straits
Stranger on the Shore, by Acker Bilk
Somebody, by Depeche Mode
You Raise Me Up, by Josh Groban
Call and Answer, by Barenaked Ladies
Georgia on My Mind, by Ray Charles
Autumn Leaves, by Eva Cassidy
I'm a Man You Don't Meet Everyday, by the Pogues
And the Band Played Waltzing Matilda, by the Pogues (a different kind of beautiful)

. :)

I'm so sorry to hear about your Dad. It heartens me to know that I introduced someone to the "beauty" of this song.:goodvibes

That is an amazing song!

Two of my favorites are
Israel Kamakawiwo'ole - Somewhere Over The Rainbow
Billy Joel- You're My Home

I don't know that they qualify as the most beautiful but they both touch me in a way other songs do not.

The minute I saw the title to this thread I immediately thought of this song and What a Wondeful World by Louis Armstrong.

The Iz song makes me cry every time I hear it. It's because the first two times I heard it were both at funerals for people my age (18 and 20 at the time) Now my family has all of Iz's albums and I  his music, but that song still makes me sob uncontrollably. Makes me cry too!

To date this is the song that my mind conjures up as "the most beautiful".
I first heard it when I was pregnant with my first child and sang it to him often. I still do. :)

Regina Belle - If I Could

If I could
I’d protect you from the sadness in your eyes
Give you courage in a world of compromise
Yes, I would

If I could
I would teach you all the things I’ve never learned
And I’d help you cross the bridges that I’ve burned
Yes, I would

If I could
I would try to shield your innocence from time
But the part of life I gave you isn’t mine
I’ll watch you grow, so I can let you go

If I could
I would help you make it through the hungry years
But I know that I can never cry your tears, babe
But I would If I could

If I could
In a time and place where you don’t wanna be
You don’t have to walk along this road with me
My yesterday won’t have to be your way

If I knew
I’d try to change the world I brought you to
Now there isn’t much more that I can do
But I would If I could

If I could
I would try to shield your innocence from time
But the part of life I gave you isn’t mine
I’ll watch you grow, so I can let you go

If I could
I’d help you make it through the hungry years
But I know that I can never cry your tears
But I would If I could

I also love - Billie Holiday - I'll Be Seeing You

I'll be seeing you
In all the old familiar places
That this heart of mine embraces
All day through.

In that small cafe;
The park across the way;
The children's carousel;
The chestnut trees;
The wishin' well.

I'll be seeing you
In every lovely summer's day;
In every thing that's light and gay.
I'll always think of you that way.

I'll find you
In the morning sun
And when the night is new.
I'll be looking at the moon,
But I'll be seeing you.

I'll be seeing you
In every lovely summer's day;
In every thing that's light and gay.
I'll always think of you that way.

I'll find you
In the morning sun
And when the night is new.
I'll be looking at the moon,
But I'll be seeing you.

Pretty much anything on the Love Songs album by The Carpenters.

Oh, what a beautiful song. I think of my parents and the love they shared before my dad's passing.

I don't think I could pick just one that is my absolute favorite beautiful song. Here are a few of them though.

Blood of Eden, Peter Gabriel

The Promise, Tracy Chapman

Love Has No Pride, Bonnie Raitt

A Whiter Shade Of Pale, Procol Harum

Romeo and Juliet, Dire Straits

Mandoline Wind, Rod Stewart

Simple Twist of Fate
and
If You See Her, Say Hello, both by Bob Dylan

Shine On You Crazy Diamond (parts 1&2)
and
Wish You Were Here, both by Pink Floyd

I think I should stop now, I could keep going and going and going.

Hands down it is "The Miracle song" Written and recorded by my son:)

Here are a few lines:

In the middle of the night, I call your name
hoping by some miracle
you might show up at my door
Just to tell me that you love me
Just to tell me that you love me

I need your faith
I need your love
and I need you everywhere
And I promise all my tommorows belong to you
All my tommorrows belong to you

was I looking for a miracle or was your miracle looking for me
but in the end
you showed me your love was always there for me
your love was always there for me

You are my light
You are my life
You are the holy one
who takes me where I've always longed to be
Where I've always longed to be

For so many years
I wandered alone
just searching for someone
to bring me in from the storm
so I'll take your hand
And follow your lead
cause deep down inside
I know your all the love that I need.......

I wish you all could hear it. He has an amazing voice. He recorded it when he was 14 years old. It always gives me goose bumps and tears of pride.

Sarah Mchlachlans I will remeber you. And several other songs by her as well.

"Con Te Partiro/Time to Say Goodbye" sung by Andrea Bocelli. He also does it as a duet with Sarah Brightman but I like the solo version better.

A Whiter Shade Of Pale, Procol Harum

We skipped the light fandango
turned cartwheels 'cross the floor......this is my Dad's favorite song.....ever. We have been known to karoke to it. :lmao: Lol, good times.:)
