What is the most beautiful song you have ever heard?

Explain why if you want to!

There are many, many beautiful songs. The one that comes to mind and usually makes me cry is Cyndi Lauper's recording of True Colors. Other versions don't do it for me.

I love the song Let There Be Peace On Earth. I cry just about every time it is played.

"Arianne" sung by Johnny Mathis. It is not a DIS-appropriate song, so no posting the lyrics, lol. You have to hear it, anyway. :)

Taco Bell Canyon...there's a 'real' name for it - I'm sure someone on here will know it. :rotfl:

The correct answer is "God Only Knows" by the Beach Boys. :hippie:

Seriously. The same people who know the real name are the ones who HATE IT WITH A PASSION because it's a mediocre work from a one-hit wonder of the baroque. Real name is Pachebel's Canon. I've got a comedy bit around here somewhere about that...http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-5929779843632718455&pr=goog-sl here it is!

Mine in the classical genre is Barber's Adagio for Strings, which most people probably know from being in the background of poignant movie scenes.

I agree with this... I was going to say "O Holy Night", but I still remember singing Let There Be Peace on Earth in our 3rd Grade musical (good grief, that was 36 years ago!) and it's still very moving to me!

Pachelbel Canon (Johann Pachelbel's Canon in D, a German composer from the late 1700's)

Actually, I just call it the GE lightbulb commercial.

I love Whitney Houston's "Greatest Love of All" which hit number one right about the time my son was born. I can remember feeding him at 2:00 am and watching that video on MTV night after night.

Hearing her sing

I believe that children of our future
Teach them well and let them lead the way
Show them all the beauty they possess inside
Give them a sense of pride to make it easier
Let the children's laughter remind us how we used to be

night after night while feeding my son was very poignant.

I believe that her voice is a gift from God, and hopefully she's turned her life around and will share that gift with others again. :goodvibes

That was me and my ex's song... that song STILL gets to me!

Anne: I used to keep the lyrics of that song on the wall of my office.. WAY before I had my son. I loved those words then but truly love them now. It was made famous by George Benson way before Whitney sung it! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CE4SUl-K1Do

I dedicated Natural Woman to my son when he was born. He totally made me realize WHY I was born female! :thumbsup2

I LOVE "Glasglow Love Theme". It's by Craig Armstrong and it's used in "Love Actually" the movie! My favorite move, by the way!

That's a tough one. Sometimes the lyrics can make just an average nice song more poignant. For the music alone, my favorites are;

Finlandia by Sibelius
Piano Concerto 1 by Tchaikovsky
The Cottage Theme from the movie Legend
Smoke Rings by Glenn Gray

I really don't have one, I love many songs. The top four, though, that immediately came to mind:

Copeland's Fanfare for the Common Man

Ashokan Farewell (from Ken Burn's Civil War)

Denyce Graves performing America Anthem

Vince Gill singing Go Rest High on that Mountain

So many beautiful songs. It's hard to choose one in particular.

One that comes to mind is, "Perhaps Love" (I'm not sure that's the title) by John Denver and Placido Domingo (sp). They sung it together so well. It gives me goosebumps everytime I hear it and my eyes well with tears. It's that beautiful to me.

ETA- I agree with many that have been posted. :)

"Two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun.".
