Anyone have any updated info. on the Refurbishment of Space Mountain? As in when it will be closing down and for how long. I haven't read anything new on this since August and thought it might be closed by now.

Its open with no current plans for it being shut down.

I am not aware of any plans to close the attraction anytime soon, eventhough it needs an update.

Space at DL was refurbed recently and is 100% better than Space at MK. I wish they would refurb MK's, as DL's is amazing, and MK's is really really showing it's age.

Looking toward the future, it is being strongly rumoured that both Space Mountain and the Jungle Cruise are currently in the approval processes for major rehabs in 2008. Both of these attractions have been on the rumour board for rehabs for quite some time, it will be interesting to see if these rumours finally pan out …

--Don't know if there's any truth to this or not...

I think the Space Mountain at Disneyland is going to have a refurbishment, but not at WDW.

DL Space Mountain was refurbished about 4 years ago. It reopened early 2005.
There were several posts back in July/August of this year talking about the much needed refurbishment of Space Mountain at MK and how it would probably take at least 2 years just as the one at Disneyland did. The previous discussions did not mention 2008 as the start date they mentioned either the end of this year or early 2007 as the start but maybe 2008 is true. After riding it in July I'm not sure it will last until 2008 though. Its getting pretty rickety, almost like a wooden rollercoaster. :bitelip:

I just rode the one at DL at it is awesome! It even has space-age rock music! and a little tweak near the end of the ride. I loved it.

Look for Space Moutain to close down in Spring 2007. The rumor is that $30 million has been set aside for a major Space Mountain refurb and $13 million has been set aside for the Jungle Cruise. Everything inside the Mountain will be redone and renamed "Rockin' Space Mountain", and look for Timon and Pumba to be worked into to Jungle Cruise.

Any word on whether TTA will close when SM closes? I heard that if TTA is closed for a long period of time, they will not be able to reopen it for wheelchair regulations. Not sure though!

I was in DLRP where they have SM Mission 2. I found it a nightmare ride and couldn't walk as my legs were jelly. I'm looking forward to the one in WDW as they have a smaller height restriction on it as DLRP is 1.32m on it and only one of the 6 kids with us could ride it and he loved it.

Friends of mine went were at WDW back in Aug. & all 3 times they rode SM the lights were on :confused3 The older kids thought it was pretty cool, but their youngest was disappointed because this was his first time & he thought it was going to look like space.

Has anyone else had this problem lately? DS can't wait to ride for the first time too!

The SM refurb project hasn't been offically greenlit yet, but the rumors of a $30M proposal to redo the ride are indeed true. Key word - "proposal", as it has not been approved yet.

There are a lot of misconceptions about the ADA and wheelchair access. If something is not able to be made wheelchair accessible, it just isn't able to be. It's not required to close. There are quite a few attractions that are not wheelchair accessible (including Peter Pan, Pirates, Dumbo).

I really hope the plan gets approved...we always loved SM, THEN we went to California and rode their SM, SOOOOO good!!
The sad part is we went to DW afterwards, and neither one of us even mentioned getting on SM there. Its just a let down after DL's

Minky, my sister just went out there this summer, and she (and DH) said the exact opposite. They thought the refurb was terrible and they couldn't wait to ride WDW SM again...

I guess I'll just have to get out there to DL to check it out myself... :thumbsup2

DLR's Space Mountain is all ready referbished and has been running for over a year for the 50 Years Annivesery. I haven't read any recent updates on when they'll be improving the SM at MK. They should do it quickly because MK's SM needs to be redone all together. (Trust me, read the new SM at DLR and it's the best thing they could have done. Kept it a complete classic but the tracks are smoother, goes faster, and much darker.)

Just rode SM in DL for the 1st time since refurb last month and hoping the MK SM is updated in a similar way. Love the lighting and sound track. It really adds to the experience imho. pirate:

Agreed, I did ride WDW's after being at DL's a few months back and its like there's no comparison now, DL's just outdoes WDW's in everything now, smoothness, lighting, effects, music.

I can't agree with this more, I love DL's. On a recent KTTK tour, I asked the tour guide if there were any plans for WDW's SM and he said no
