What's the hiring process for being a Cast Member?

So my family and I are relocating to Florida in a couple of months. We won't be living in the immediate Orlando area, but close enough where a job at Disney is certainly feasible. So for kicks, I went to the Disney website and looked around at openings. I saw one that really appealed to me and thought, why not? I applied for it.

Now I've read other threads here where people have mentioned it's a lengthy process for getting hired at Disney. So I didn't expect to hear back right away. Well to my surprise, I heard back immediately and was asked to complete an online interview. I did that and after completing that, I got an email asking me to schedule a live interview. This is all happening so fast. I'm not sure what to do. I have a two week window of dates to select my interview from, so I'm pushing it out as far as I can. But I really want to know what to expect next?

If I go through the interview process and they want to hire me, I won't be able to start immediately. Is this going to be a problem?

Just because you get a "live interview" does not necessarily mean that the job offer, if there is one, will come right away. They will interview based on what areas you put on the application to work and try to match that with what openings they have in that area and the results of the interview. For example, I put down Security, Monorails & Attractions. Ended up getting hired in a business unit of Attractions.

Having said the above, I interviewed on a Thursday and got a hiring call on Friday although I know of some people that interviewed and did not get called for 4 or 5 months. Just depends on the areas of work. A lot of areas at this time of year might not have full openings until late May or early June (summer season hires) but you just never know. A lot depends on, if you are looking at things like attractions, how many College Program are coming in for the next session and so on.

Just let them know when your preferred start date is and go from there. As I said, a lot depends on what area you and they are looking for and what their needs are. Good luck.

OBTW: Loved the "Embarrassing my children... just another service I provide". My sentiment to my kids as they were growing up (and still - they are 38 and 31 now) exactly. Always told them my ultimate retirement job was to drive the monorail, because if you had an altzhiemer's moment you couldn't get lost. My Casting interviewer loved that.

Thank you for the reply. I think I'm just stressing (unnecessarily) about the timing of everything. But I went ahead and scheduled the interview and we'll just see where things go from there.

Thanks again.:cool1:
