So my oldest DD (4), lost her first tooth tonight! I feel so bad; I have nothing to make to special. It came up on me so suddenly. So I told her we would put it under her pillow tomorrow.
2 questions: How much does the tooth fairy give these days? And where can I get something cute to put her tooth in to leave under her pillow? Thanks!

I imagine you will have varying answers with this depending on where the responders live. I am sure different parts of the country/world have a different exchange rate for dental to dollars/pounds, etc.

For first teeth the tooth fairy always leave $5 here. Subsequent teeth usually fetch $1 each.

At Babies R Us, and many other stores you can find cute little tooth holders, some are pillows with a pocket, etc.

Good luck. I hope the visit from the fairy is very special!

MY DD5 lost her second tonight, so the Tooth Fairy is coming to my house too. She is leaving her $5.00, I don't know if this is ok though, it seems right to me for a 5 year old. We have a cute tooth box that she got from her preschool when she lost her first tooth while she was there. You can put it in a trinket box or just under her pillow. Put it close to the edge of the pillow it makes it a lot easier to get out.

I alwso wanted to add a small warning... proceed with caution.

Whatever you establish as routine with this child (because she is the oldest) will now become set in stone. LOL There is no turning back. Make sure whatever you get or do for one you will be prepared to do for all.

:goodvibes

When my daughter was smaller, I used to put a couple of dollars and a gift --- usually a special toothbrush (like Tooth Tunes or the light up ones) or a DVD.

When she stopped believing in the tooth fairy ----LONG story ----- we just stopped with the tooth under the pillow thing.

Thanks for the responses! I was thinking $5 seemed appropriate. Tomorrow I'll run to the store to look for a container or pillow. I'll try Babies r us. Thanks for the suggestions :thumbsup2

Our tooth fairy leaves Disney Dollars. That way, the money kind of goes back into our vacation money. :)

$5 for the first tooth and also those really big top teeth that hurt more. Then $1 for the littler ones around them. We haven't gotten past the "front 8" with either kid yet.

Whoa!! The tooth fairy is very generous at your home!!
Here , the tooth fairy leaves $2 (a toonie).
If the dentist has to pull it -or "wiggle it out"- then you get $5 per tooth. My nieces have each had 8 -10 "wiggled out" to support straighter growth and at teeth at a time, it adds up!

When I first found out how much the toothfairy gave up per tooth- I thought I was going to faint. I remember getting the quarters & half dollars (now I also remember getting dollar bills too) I was told by MANY friends that it's $5.00 -I think that I gave more for the 1st tooth- maybe $5 and $5 Disney dollars but since then it's only $5...but grammy also gives $5 per tooth too--I wonder how much if I knock out one of my teeth:lmao:

I'm going to watch this thread closely.

My DD (6) lost her first tooth last month. She was so excited and couldn't wait for the Tooth Fairy. That night when she was getting ready for bed, I reminded her to put the tooth under her pillow. She started to sob uncontrollably and I asked what was wrong. She said she didn't want to loose the tooth and end up with nothing. I explained that the Tooth Fairy would leave her some money. She asked how much, and I told her probably $2.00 (a toonie up here in Canada). She said she wasn't willing to part with it for less than $20.00! :rotfl2: I have no idea where that came from (perhaps because she's been saving her money for our upcoming Disney trip)

Anyway, to make a long story short, she still has the tooth in a plastic bag because the Tooth Fairy does not leave $20.00 for any tooth in this house!

My older boys got $5.00 for the first lost tooth, and $2.00 thereafter.

I'm scared to think what the 4 year old is going to ask for when his teeth start falling out.

THAT IS HILARIOUS!!!!!! :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

Lol! These responses are making me laugh! I hadn't thought about $5 per tooth x 20 teeth x 3 kids :rotfl2: I like the idea about Disney dollars since we're going on a trip in October.

Yeah, I can't imagine $20 for a tooth either!

We always leave foreign coins-no comparison with other kids that way, the kids think it's cool-after all, the tooth fairy travels the world, right?

Wow! We have a cheap-skate tooth fairy that visits our house. She leaves $1. And the first tooth didn't garner any additional compensation than the subsequent tooth.

The stupid Tooth Fairy usually FORGETS on the night the tooth is lost, therefore she has to come back the next night and add in extra money to make up for her forgetfulness!!!!! :rotfl: If she would remember, like a good fairy, she would probably leave $2 per tooth. ;)

:rotfl2: How much extra does she have to give?

At our house, we put the tooth in a small ziplock bag with a note asking the TF to leave it for Mom. (I just know if I skipped this part and tried to sneak and hide the tooth, I'd get busted.) The TF always leaves the tooth for us and she also usually leaves $5. (Once, a pretty loose tooth got knocked out during Tae Kwon Do and the TF left $10 that time...you know to compensate for the trauma. ;) ) But sometimes she has left a few gold dollar coins and my dd really liked that. And then there was the time that dd told me she really hoped that the TF left her some shiny quarters, so we got off a little cheaper that time.

I know one lady whose kids put their teeth in a glass of water beside the bed and the TF replaces the teeth with coins (still in the water).

I guess we're cheap here too just $1 a tooth. - Nothing special for the 1st either although our 1st have been a bit weird- DD#2 knocked one of her front teeth out just before her 2nd bday- never found it - and when DD#1 pulled her own out during soccer practice, on the field she threw it- so never had that one either- just wrote a note to the tooth fairy instead.
