What's the going rate from the tooth fairy?

We are doing two gold $ coins for the first & one for all the rest--but I do agree with everyone that if there is anything traumatic with the tooth loss I'll up it. I planned ahead & went to the credit union for a bunch of gold dollar coins--I didn't realize until then that they have a bunch of new styles. They went over huge!

Just don't do what I did--I had DS put his tooth in a glass beside the bed. Well, the big moment comes & I put the coins in the glass only to have it make all kinds of noise as it hits the bottom! :lmao: My DS fluttered his eyes but luckily didn't remember anything--yup, my first bit as tooth fairy was almost my last! :rotfl: Let's just say we have now switched to plastic cups by the bedside!

Well now that's a whole different issue. It seems that neither the Tooth Fairy NOR HER HUSBAND carry much cash, so it's really hit or miss. Those poor kids!!!!:lmao:

This cracks me up!! This sounds like our toothfairy... Usually the kids get $2 but sometimes there is a bunch of change lol... or sometimes is a $5. Just depends on whether or not the toothfairy or husband had time to stop for cash (or change) lol.

I guess we're cheap here too just $1 a tooth. - Nothing special for the 1st either although our 1st have been a bit weird- DD#2 knocked one of her front teeth out just before her 2nd bday- never found it - and when DD#1 pulled her own out during soccer practice, on the field she threw it- so never had that one either- just wrote a note to the tooth fairy instead.

Whoa! You've got some tough girls! LOL

Now I feel like my tooth fairy is a cheap-skate too. Maybe with inflation DD will get a little more once she starts losing teeth.

I imagine you will have varying answers with this depending on where the responders live. I am sure different parts of the country/world have a different exchange rate for dental to dollars/pounds, etc.

For first teeth the tooth fairy always leave $5 here. Subsequent teeth usually fetch $1 each.

At Babies R Us, and many other stores you can find cute little tooth holders, some are pillows with a pocket, etc.

Good luck. I hope the visit from the fairy is very special!

same here.My dd lost her first tooth a few weeks ago and has already got another loose. The going rate for us is $5 for the 1st , $1 for each subsequent

$5.00 for 1st tooth, and $1.00 thereafter. DD6 just lost her 3rd tooth on Sat. and that is what was left. Tooth Fairy also leaves our teeth as we scrapbook.

My sis keeps telling me that we are so below in our neighborhood as it's like $20.00 per tooth. WTH!?! My hubby is a banker and has many of these people in his office begging for money, go figure?

Sister in law was complaining about this the other day too (more like showing off) about how much the Tooth Fairy leaves ($5.00 per tooth). She's on social assistance, so between my taxes and my parents' in laws paying for the tooth fairy, she's covered.

Interesting topic - we also don't buy tvs and cars from the Easter Bunny, nor pay for marks on report cards either, so I guess we're out of touch. Not!

I don't get the whole going rate of the tooth fairy mentality. The "going rate" is whatever the tooth fairy leaves - once you start living up to the Joneses, we all know what happens...

We pay $5 for each tooth here at our house....

My little girl lost her 1st tooth at Disney last week and of course the tooth fairy put $5 under her pillow. She was so excited (age 7) to have lost her 1 st tooth and at Disney - told us it was Disney Magic. :)

Whoa!! The tooth fairy is very generous at your home!!
Here , the tooth fairy leaves $2 (a toonie).
If the dentist has to pull it -or "wiggle it out"- then you get $5 per tooth. My nieces have each had 8 -10 "wiggled out" to support straighter growth and at teeth at a time, it adds up!

I'm going to leave a "toonie" too!

A "tooth" dollar bill! I went to the bank and stocked up on 2.00 bills after she lost her first tooth. She keeps them all...stuffs them in her piggy bank. The only thing is, we finally ran out of our 2.00 bill stash (so the tooth fairy borrowed one that had been stuffed in the pig). Recycling!

My kids for their "1st tooth" received a silver 1 oz. coin that mom found on the internet stamped with a picture of the tooth fairy $9-15 but nice keepsake...after that $1-3 a tooth depending on if it had a filling or not...fillings received less.

Man I am leaving the tooth fairy a note tonight about this. Ours is a serious cheap skate too. Now I should state that all of my son's teeth so far have had to be actually pulled by the dentist because our roots are 3 times that of the tooth.

One even had to be taken care at the hospital with an oral surgeon (to get that tooth was a nightmare, pathology dept has to sign off on it and we didnt get it back for a week. Then they laughed at DH because they thought it was his. :headache:)

All those times the tooth fairy has only left $1. I remember when I got a quarter for the same deal. Sigh inflation is awful. :rotfl:

I am afraid out tooth fairy is cheap too. DS lost his first two teeth two days apart. He got $1 each...he seemed happy. He also got a note (thank goodness for a swirly font on Word.) Then I got a note under my pillow with his first tooth for me to save. I think he was more excited about that than anything. He then got the option to have the fairy keep his teeth or I could. He picked me, so the next night I got the second tooth too. My mom kept all my teeth (which of course I didn't know about until I was probably 12 or so.) Except for the one I lost on the bus...

:rotfl:When I was little, I had several teeth that had to be pulled. Once I had to be put under with a general anesthesia while they pulled 3 at once. I think I got $1 for all those teeth combined, and that was an increase over the quarter per tooth I normally received.

We do $1. Nothing if they haven't been brusing well lately. The tooth fairy only like clean shiny teeth!

well the toothfairy was busy this weekend - DS7 lost his at about 6pm and the toothfairy didnt have anything special planned. She was hoping the disney store had disney dollars but they were all out. Settled on a disney gift card with $5.00 (we are going to disney in Sept. so he could use it there) The TF left some glitter on the pillow and a little matchbox car with the giftcard. It was DS front tooth.
for the first one DS got a webkin with $1.00 gold coin.
next time he will probably get some forgin coins (a frind travels all over the world)

Cheap-a$$ tooth fairy here, too! $1. The gold coins make it seem special!

This WAS my plan also, When DD lost her first tooth, it was a complete surprise. It was loose, but not really loose and one night she just came running out of her room saying that she had pulled her tooth out. Well, neither the tooth fairy or her DH carries cash very often, but this particular night the TF happened to have a $5 bill. Perfect! $5 for the first, $1 for the rest. A couple of weeks later, same thing happens. She pulled out a tooth that was barely loose. And again, the TF happened to have a $5 bill and nothing else. So, #2 also got her $5.

I alwso wanted to add a small warning... proceed with caution.

Whatever you establish as routine with this child (because she is the oldest) will now become set in stone. LOL There is no turning back. Make sure whatever you get or do for one you will be prepared to do for all.

:goodvibes

This is the sad realization that I have come to. I don't even want to do the math on how much this will cost me. Luckily, I only have 2 kids. Anymore and I would have to take out a loan!!

DD also had a tooth that she knocked out that wasn't loose at all. She was climbing on DS's dresser and tipped it over on her. She was screaming because it hurt her leg and then I looked and her mouth was bleeding. She knocked out her front top tooth and didn't even know it. The TF brought her nothing for that tooth, because the tooth fairy does not bring you money for teeth knocked out while being naughty. I know, mean mom.

Well the Tooth Fairy came tonight. I searched high and low for a pillow, a box, something. Anyway I found nothing, so I felt so bad that I wasn't prepared. (I didn't know children lost their teeth at age 4). So we just got a little wooden box at Michael's and decorated it with scrap booking stickers that had a tooth fairy and little teeth stickers. I wanted to do Disney dollars, but they didn't fit in the box, so we did gold dollar coins that we happened to have. I left $3. I couldn't leave $1, because I felt so guilty for not doing anything. DH would not let me leave $5. :rotfl: I think I'll go type a note though. My DD has been so excited about losing this tooth! Thanks everyone for the suggestions!

DS just lost his first tooth a couple weeks ago. The tooth fairy must have been very very tired because she left $15.00. No idea why. DH was not happy. With 2 more boys to go, hopefully the first one will forget (highly unlikely though), how much he got for it, otherwise the tooth fairy will be out of business. :lmao:

For anyone else thinking of something special to do for a child who lost a tooth, you can send them an "enchanted call" from one of the Disney characters for just $2.49 :) Click here, choose the character, and then choose "Congratulations," one of the choices on the next page should be "lost a tooth."

I used this once for dd when she was learning to swim, she got the biggest kick out of it!

That's a cute idea! We've done an enchanted call (but not for a tooth) and my dd loved it. Actually, seeing her reaction to the call was what motivated us to begin researching Disney which led to our first trip in 2007.

Another cute TF idea I read about (here on the DIS, I think) was for the TF to leave a note for the child. Of course, the TF has tiny notes with tiny writing...almost like she used a size 4 font to type it! ;)
