What is the deal with this ride?? I'm beating myself up trying to decide if I should try it on my upcoming April trip...... I can handle any roller coaster (loops/dips), and drop rides like TOT, but I get sick on any ride that just spins around a lot, ie teacups. ... Please help........... :listen:

If I were you, I would stay away from Mission Space. This ride is like no other motion/sensory ride I've ever riden. It is very intense, and if you don't look straight ahead at all times, you will likely get sick.

This ride is awesome and I love it, but from your description of yourself, sounds like you could have a problem. Just my .02

I do not care of the spinning rides either, and always skip the teacups. . they are not worth the ill effects for me. However I have done Mission Space several times, with little to no bad effects.

It is up to you if you want to try it. I try do it first thing in the morning, and eat something for breatfast after, and I always make it a point to look forward at all times like they say and never close my eyes.

It is a really great ride, but not worth it if you think it will mess you up for the day!

husband is like you and wanted to barf his guts out after ms BUT he refused to take bonine prelift off( ) it's a fun ride and i'd try it but not without anti motion sickness pills...and make sure you follow all the instructions. i think he would have been ok with the pills, but now he was sick enough he says "never again"

I am not a person who likes spinning rides all that much either but can take the teacups in small doses. I rode MS several times last year and loved it. I honestly could not tell that I was spinning even if I turned my head to the side and believe me I really tried. I say go for it.

Like others have said, you might want to skip this one. It IS a good ride, but I think you can still feel the spinning (though not like being on regular spinning rides.) My husband can't do spinning rides and got talked into this one (by CMs!) and felt awful for the rest of the day (bad headache that nothing would get rid of). I can handle spinning better, but don't particularaly like spinning rides, I could feel it, it was very intense, but no real ill after-effects. However, I will not be riding again!

Not to sound stupid, but how comperable is the spinning around on Astro Jets and Dumbo (I can do those) Do you spin so fast the you can't even notice it????

Since you're saying right off that you don't like spinning rides, I'd be careful with Mission:Hurl. If you really want to try it, do it at the end of the day. That way you won't waste an entire day feeling like crap. People that have bad reactions to it almost all say that the nauseous/dizzy feeling lasts until an overnight sleep.

I don't think you really feel the spinning unless you close your eyes. It is a great ride and a shame to miss. Maybe try it at the very end of the day so that if it does not agree with you, you can sleep it off.

I was so worried about this ride and almost didn't go on it. It was GREAT and not a problem at all. Just follow their instructions exactly. Don't look around, stare at the screen, don't shut your eyes and keep you head back and still.

Hubby gets quesy on stimulators like Body Wars and Star Tours and had no problem with Space. It is so well done you really need to do this ride.

I can handle just about every ride, even teacups, but Mission Space affects me more than any ride I have ever been on.

I limit myself to 1 ride during the trip, and that's it. Tough call on suggesting what you do.

I can't do spinning rides like the teacups either, but I was fine on Mission Space and did not feel it spinning at all. I think the key is to keep your eyes on the screen in front of you at all times, which I did. Don't close your eyes or try to look around at all. I think wdwoldtimer had a good suggestion... try it at the end of the day so if it does make you feel sick you can just back to your hotel & crash and not waste a day feeling bad.

I've been on many times, no problems (and Star Wars does cause me problems). However, I follow the directions to the letter. However, this past May when riding with a friend, she became very nauseous after the ride, and had to sit for a while. After about an hour and several peppermint drops, she was back to normal. So I'd give it a try, but wait until a time when you can take it easy for a bit after, and have some peppermints handy. They really do help with nausea.

I would not go again either. I don't like spinning rides but against my better judgement I got talked into it. I definetly knew I was spinning and I kept my head straight and looked at the screen the whole time but it didn't seem to help me much. It did ruin the rest of my day because I think I was just drunk and hung over from this ride. I wish you luck!!!

What are you all worrying about they do provide you with Barf bags on every trip.

I have a similar aversion to spinning rides - and MS is a hardcore spinning ride, although I did not realize this until I was bording the actual car. Definitely felt queazy for a while afterwards, although I managed to keep it together. In any event, the advice thus far is sound. If you simply cannot do spinning - forget it. On the other hand, if you simply need to try the ride, then keep looking forward at all times and try not to think about the spin - focus on the sensation they are trying to simulate (e.g., being pinned against your seat because you are hurling into space - no pun intended). I will also say this - it's not a big sacrifice to miss this ride in my mind - but I know others disagree. M

I'm like you - can't handle the teacups at all. Primeval Whirl is just about all the spinning I can take. I love roller coasters and TOT. Well, I was dying to ride MissionSpace last year and nothing was going to stop me. The first time I rode it, I took Dramamine before and had no problems (unless I got drowsy from the Dramamine and had to take an afternoon nap :teeth: ). Second time I rode it first thing in the morning with no Dramamine and was just fine. I didn't even notice the spinning at all. Go for it! Like someone else suggested: the first time, try it at the end of the day. And they DO have barf bags inside the pod if you need one.

Do you know what a centrifuge is in chemistry? Remember back in high school chemistry when you placed your test tube in the little machine that spun it around and around and around at a high speed and when it was done the solid portion of your chemical in the test tube was neatly piled up on the bottom of the tube?

Well on Mission Space you are the "centrifuge-ee"! :stir:

Is Mission Space like the rides that you stand against a wall, the ride spins, and you are stuck to it?

We just got back from our first trip to WDW. We had read SO much about Mission Space and we debated back and forth whether we should do it or not. We don't like rides like the teacups and my wife can get sick just riding in the back of a car. But when we got to Epcot our first day, the Fast Pass machine at Test Track was also giving a BONUS Fast Pass for Mission Space...just because so many people are avoiding it, apparently. We decided to go for it. We followed the instructions (keep your head back, don't look around, watch the screen) and WE LOVED IT! No motion sickness at all...and we hadn't even taken our bonine with us. We were so glad that we did it and it was our FIRST ride at Disney World! After that, we knew we could handle Tower of Terror and Rockin' Roller Coaster with no problem.
