What's the Deal with Mission: SPACE????

I have yet to feel the spinning on this ride...I guess because I don't obsess with it. The first time we rode, I was looking around the head restraints at my 6 yo DD. Ever since then, I focus on the screen and the "job" you have to do. I do admit, tho, I tend to push a lot of buttons!

I have an aversion to anything that spins, yet I let my wife talk me into this ride. The visuals are great, the feel of it is awesome, but I will never do it again. I can handle Dumbo, but the Astro Orbiter and Teacups make me sick. I was glad that I rode this ride because the feeling is definitely once in a lifetime, but it also definitely made me nauseous and I won't try it again. The sickness wasn't bad enough to ruin all of my day, just an hour or so. So the question is, how bad do you want to try it (don't answer that till your standing in front of the ride.) Good Luck!

The MS ride spins? Honestly, I've ridden it several times and never realized it was spinning until someone explained it to me. I always skip the teacups, and I have never had a problem with MS. I make sure it's a few hours after eating, and I am careful to follow the directions in the ride, i.e. don't close your eyes or look away. But it has never, ever bothered me.

What is the deal with this ride?? I'm beating myself up trying to decide if I should try it on my upcoming April trip...... I can handle any roller coaster (loops/dips), and drop rides like TOT, but I get sick on any ride that just spins around a lot, ie teacups. ... Please help........... :listen:

the teacups...NEVER...the Astro Orbitor gets me everytime. :crazy2: I can get slightly sick on a merry go round....I can't even read in the car,....but I did Mission Space two times in a row and I did not even feel like I was spinning. You feel the G's but if you keep your head totally back and eyes forward on the screen at all times, it did not feel like I was actually spinning at all. I would give it a whirl....later in the day and don't let all the warnings psyche you out while waiting in line. I myself could have done without seeing the actual simulator video of the thing spinning.

I tried it once on our last trip. I WONT do it again.

My DH has done it twice & he has no desire to do it again either.

I can do fine on spinning rides, I never even got sick on those old carnival rides where you stand against the wall & it spins.

But after Mission Space, I felt like crap. And while the feeling went away after a while, I did not feel back to being 100% until the next day. I guess that is why I am not an astronaut... :lmao:

I will stick with their other rides. And I hope my DS never asks to go on it! He is only 2.5, so I have a very long time before I would ever even let him on it anyway. I probably wouldn't let him on it until he was 8 or 10 anyway. The ride is just to intense. But when the time comes, if he is ready & wants to ride it, DH can take him.

Is Mission Space like the rides that you stand against a wall, the ride spins, and you are stuck to it?

Answer - Yes, that is exactly what it is, with a lot of bells and whistles. Also, you are completely enclosed, so you cannot really know that you are spinning apart from the sensation.

My hubby is a pretty tough guy when it comes to roller coasters and just rides in general. He's rode Hulk and Superman at Universal over and over and nothing really bothers him until he rode Mission:Space the last time we were there. I knew I couldn't because I'm claustrophobic but he actually had to sit down a while, get a Coke and regroup after riding. He said it was just intense and the pressure put on your body I think got to him. He seemed disoriented a little but not really "drunk" (hope that makes sense). He just said he didn't feel right and doubted ever riding it again. It really surprised me because he likes to ride in the front of RNRC and Tower didn't bother him but Mission got to him for a while after.

Good luck deciding what to do. I guess if you have any doubts I don't know if I would ride.

After hearing all of the hype surrounding this ride I was a little nrevous - not for myself - but for my wife who does not handle these types of rides well...She now has a favorite ride, and it's called Mission:Space. The senory experience is great and I loved it but wasn't nearly as intense as I thought it would be. I find most roller coasters to be more intense than M:S. I did love it, though, as we rode it a couple of times on our last visit. One piece of advice - as much as you may want to - don't close your eyes and you'll be fine - I say go for it and have fun! :goodvibes

I just rode Mission Space for the first time this past Thursday. It didn't make me sick or give me a headache like I had anticipated. It was an okay ride, but I was drained from concentrating on all of the instructions to keep myself from getting sick....focus on the screen, don't close your eyes, don't turn your head, etc. It just wasn't very enjoyable for me.

I rode Mission: Space shortly after it opened. It was a fun ride - well themed, a nice experience. I had no idea while I was on it that I was spinning. But by the time I got to the area where mission control is at the end, I knew I'd been spinning. I felt pretty bad for 10 or 15 minutes afterwards, and I'm not one to get motion sickness. The next year I tried again and felt even worse. Needless to say, I avoid this one now. If you are prone to feeling sick after rides that spin, I would advise not going on this one. It could ruin the rest of your day.

Does anyone have kids that have gotten sick on MS. I have never rode it but I want to so bad. I'm sure I will get sick on MS but I really don't care. The only thing that I worry about is my children. My DD7 is 49" tall so she can ride this year and she doesn't get sick on any other rides not even Star Tours or TOT, but I can't help but worry that maybe it is TOO much for kids.

My family of 4 went to WDW last Nov. with another family of 4. There were 4 kids all together, but only 2 tall enough to ride Mission Space. The 10-year-old boy with no history of a weak stomach or motion sickness(mine) LOVED the ride and didn't feel sick at all. The 10-year-old boy (my friend's) with a long history of motion sickness and vomiting at the drop of a hat threw up right after getting off the ride.(Note: there are motion sickness bags right in each capsule of MS) I think that tells the story of how to decide who should ride the ride. Anyone who is at all susceptible to motion sickness should expect to feel sick during and/or after this ride. Who wants to mess up a great WDW experience by feeling icky?! I, myself, have never had any problems with nausea and it's my favorite ride in all of WDW!!! If your DD likes TOT and doesn't have motion sickness problems, I'll bet she'll love MS! My DD7 wasn't tall enough last time. I hope she grows another inch before November, because I'd love to go on MS with her!!

I cannot ride Mission Space but my DD 8 and DD 9 love it, as does my DH. I rode once and then had to sit down, eat a bag of pretzels and have a coke. My DD8 gets motion sick and also gets migraines but she has no problem on this ride. She's always the first to want to go again.

Give it a try. I did and now I know that it's just not for me and I truly don't feel like I'm missing something by skipping it.

If the tea cups get to you, don't do this ride!
I don't do the tea cups, because the may me feel bad.
I went on this ride when it first opened and came off it felling dizzy and sick the rest of the day.
So, don't bother.

I can't handle the tea cups and often get motion sickness, but rode MS countless times in Jan with no ill effects. My DS8 and DS6 also rode and loved it. I think that this ride hits everyone differently, so I would ride MS at or near the end of your day so if you do get sick it doesn't wreck a whole day.

It's a vomit machine...I've gotten nausea by riding it and every one of my friends has had the same experience. I ride anything and everything. Spinning bothers me. Funny thing is...it's mind over matter. Therefore, I still ride it, at least, twice on each trip. Sad thing is, there is never a line during low to moderate crowds because everyone is scared of it. It's a waste of an attraction as it isn't gaining the crowds it should for a proper ROI (return on investment). I think it's pretty darn cool. Oh yeah, they did turn it down after that child lost his life after riding it. It used to pull 5 G's...now it's down to 2.5 to 3. Not as bad.

Tea Cups are worse though...too much frame of reference. In MS, you can simply keep your head back and eyes open...focus on anything but the fact that you are in motion and you'll be find...again, mind over matter.

My .02 cents

I do not do spinnning rides as I've gotten older. I can handle teacups but no extra spin. However riding MS....I did it on an empty stomach, looked straight ahead and was fine. The liftoff effect was amazing.

Now last trip we went to Disneyquest and I tried the Alladin ride for the first time. I had to sit down afterwards and was pretty much sick for the rest of the night..... I wanted to try the raft ride because it wasn't crowded but just watching behind someone caused my stomach to turn.

Disneyquest = more queasy factor than mission space

I hate spinning rides. I can handle most rollar coasters, and I love the TOT, and my Brother-in-law talked me into it. So, liftoff I was good, and it was really cool... Face was smooshed back, loved the G's....

So, everything is hunky-dory until we hit the cryogenic (or whatever they called it!) sleep. The screen went still, and ice crystals formed and this was about the time I realized I was spinning. And I mean really whipping. For the rest of ride I used EVERY ounce of my energy NOT to puke. My nephews were yelling, "Push the buttons! Push the buttons!" (part of the ride experience) and I was just looking straight ahead thinking of my laughing place.

UGH.

Never again. :sad2:

Definitely more neighs then yeas on this one....... I think I'll be skipping it.

Why would Disney build a ride like this? So many people are getting sick on it, and they're giving away fastpasses for it from Test Track??? Should've revamped Horizons instead............

They should've spent the money on something else like the Villians themed RC park that been rumoured........ or a monorail extension to MGM/AK...... or a revamp of Space Mountain.....

:thumbsup2
