What's the consensus for on-line check-in?

So, Disney has offered on-line check-in now for a few months and is there a genreral consensus on whether it's a good service or not? I've heard some good stories and bad stories. What's the scoop?

If you are checking into a resort with long check in lines, then it's worth it. Otherwise, it really doesn't matter.

I tried online check-in when it first started. It didn't registger when we arrived. We were staying at BCV. They did have our room ready though. I'm going to try it again since i have no specific requests. Will be at Jambo 2 bedroom savannah view, BCV and OKW throughout our 2 week stay.
Only 10 more days! :thumbsup2

I have heard that AK Resort does not have a designated line for online check in and you have to use the same line as everyone else. Does anyone know if this is true?

Well, there is not really a "line"....There is a sign at the end of the counter on the outside of the rope that says "Online Check In Here" (or something to that effect").

It was a little confusing since there was nobody else standing there. I stood by the sign for a few minutes and then just hopped in the "regular" line behind about 3 other people. The packet was all ready, our keys were already printed up and our room was ready. (It should have been...it was almost 7pm)

I did not notice a significant advantage to checking in online. We did have the DxDDP on our reservation and everything was in order. It was only a 1-night reservation. The next morning, I checked in the "regular" way for the rest of our trip. It did not seem to save any time by doing the online check in. I guess if there were a separate line, it might be quicker, but it did not seem like there was a specific CM assigned to the online check in line. They would just "pop" over when they got freed up from the regular line.

SSR had two check-in lines. One for online guests, and the other for all other guests. My line was certainly the shorter of the two. I know it saved us some time.

I was skeptical about the online check-in, and wasn't going to use it. But we were arriving so late in the afternoon (3:00), I figured it couldn't hurt. I got exactly what we requested with MS for our room request.

That's good to know about getting your requests! I'm hoping to get mine next week!

I must be dumb or blind but I can't find the link to the on-line check-in. Can someone help me?

On the member web site, click on the link that says "View Vacation Details" on the main page. It's on the right side, near the picture of the computer mouse that looks like Mickey. This will give you a list of all upcoming vacations. When the vacation is within 10 days of check-in, a button will appear.

Meh, I"m not doing it since I'm going to check in at about 6:30am anyways.

Well, we're trying it for the first time this weekend. VWL checking in on Friday. The interesting thing to me is, the request list for VWL. Only one. Close to transportation. That one doesn't make a lot of sense to me. I would much rather have had a choice like "first floor" or "close to elevator".

We'll see what we get on Friday!

Times you wouldn't want to do online check-in....

If you're using Gift cards to put onto your KTTW card
If you're on the dining plan

In both instances, they would have to issue new keys with new information on them.
I guess we could use online check-in, get our rooms and then go back to the front desk to get the other matters taken care of, but in my opinion, that may take more time.

I am confused why you wouldn't use online check in if your doing the dinning plan? You have to let member services know before you arrive that you want the dinning plan and when you use the online check in you can register a credit card number. Am I wrong?

We are checking in late~around 9:00PM next Friday evening and I initially thought it would not make sense to check in online since there likely will not be many people checking in at the hour.

Now I am wondering if it may be advantageous for to check-in online. That way, my requests may be met? If I wait to check in when we arrive it may be too late to meet the request?:confused3

Wait, ...what?
When you did online checkin they actually offered requests for you to pick?

I called member services about these matters. You can register a credit card number with online check-in; but, if you have Disney Gift Cards that you want to transfer to the KTTW card, that has to be done at check-in. Also, You have to pay for the Dining Plan at Check-in, then they will issue you your KTTW cards with the dining option on them. They will not do that before you pay for the plan. Again, this is what one person from member services told me. Not sure if i'd get a different answer from a different person from member services.

If you're on the dining plan

We just used on-line check-in for our OKW and BCV stays in July. We had dining plan for both and it went flawlessly. In fact, at BCV there were several people waiting to check in, but we walked right up to the on-line check-in CM and had our room keys in 3-4 minutes.

Love on-line check-in!!!!:banana::banana::banana:

Well, i stand corrected.... :goodvibes... guess i will chalk it up to different "member service" guides giving different information.

Thanks again for your experience!:thumbsup2

Wait, ...what?

Can anyone who has done online checkin speak to this? Are specific requests offered/suggested?

Not sure when this started, since this is the first time I tried it. There's a section you can select Room Requests. Once you click on that, another window opens with the request type. For my VWL reservation, I only had "near transportation" Here's a screen capture so you can see what I mean.
