What's the cancellation policy on ADR's?

Can I make ADR's now for our upcoming January trip, but cancel them if I need to once we're there?

We are going without hoppers, and although I *think* I have the parks scheduled out, if it rains one day, I don't want to be outside at Animal Kingdom, etc. I'd like to be able to adjust once we're there. But I'm not sure of the cancellation policy if I were to make ADR's now.

Thanks!!!!

Yes you can cancel them once you get there.. and that would be the right thing to do rather than be a no-show as then someone else can take your spot.. Maybe like in enough time so that they can rebook the spot.

One more thought, if you book with a credit card, I believe in order for them not to charge you for holding the spot you have to give 24 to 48 hours notice.. and to be on the safe side, I would go for more notice than less..

This is probably the reason I never book till I get there as I never know where I am going to be on which day..

They can be cancelled once there but beware of the ADR's that require a CC to hold the reservation-they need 48 hours' notice for a cancellation or they charge a fee~the rest you can do at any time :)

Not all restaurants require credit cards for ADRs? Is a CC only for the dinner shows or character meals?

Only a few places require CC, CRT, HDDR, Fantasmic Dinner Package and a few others. Mostly "signature" or specials shows, not regular character dinning.

Would it be safe then to assume that if I made ressies now for "basic" restaurants, and then wound up in a different park the day of the ADR, we could cancel, even if it's not within the 24-48 hour time frame? (If I didn't need a cc to make the ressie) Would that be rude?

I wouldn't consider it rude, if you call and cancel someone who walks up to the restaurant will get to eat there. That person will be very happy!:thumbsup2 So go ahead and make your ADRs.

As long as they do not require a credit card hold (I think both princess meals do this now) you can cancel as late as the same day with no problem....there is nothing wrong with having meals booked that you might need to cancel, just be sure to cancel them as soon as you know you are not using them. Our upcoming trip we have 7 TS meals, I at one point had as many as 12 ADRs booked for our upcoming trip, and I still have 9, though I will cancel the two extra a few days in advance once I know for sure what we are doing. As a PP pointed out, you will make some non-planner very happy when he calls that morning to try and get a table!
