What's so great about a PSP system?

My DS (10) is asking for a PSP for Christmas. I looked at them at Target today and it just doesn't seem like there are a lot of games for it. (I'm not talking about the highest priced one or the PSP Go) It's a lot of money to spend on something that doesn't have nearly as many games as the DSi would for him.

Any opinions on the PSP? Good or bad??? Thanks for your help!!!

I'm not sure but Target is supposed to have a new bundle coming out tomorrow for them per the Electronics employee at our Target. My friend's little boy got one given to him yesterday and he is loving it as is my daughter.

Both my kids have a PSP Go and a DSI. They do use the DSI more often. They like the PSP Go and I like the fact that you download the games, so there are no actual physical games to buy, lose or keep track of! You can also watch movies on them. When we travel by plane or go on long car trips they take both with them. The graphics on the PSP Go are better than the DSI, IMHO. We did have the PSP a few years ago but like the PSP Go better. I know the PSP Go is expensive, so my kids had it on their Xmas list last year and my dad was kind enough to buy them each one. If I was going to buy it it would have been their only gift. ;). Keep in mind after Xmas there will be a new DS coming out, the DS 3D!

I guess I am not much help! :lmao: Sorry! It's just we like both!

My younger two have the DS and my oldest has the PSP. There are quite a few games for the PSP but Target and Walmart, etc don't stock them. They are online and can be ordered and some are downloaded directly to the PSP via the internet. Most of the games are geared toward the older tween/teen crowd and if your son likes the games geared toward the more mature player then he will like the games on this system more than those on the DSi. There are also a ton of movies available for the PSP and they are cheap (like $6 ea).

The best way to buy the PSP is via a bundle as you will save a bunch. Because, be prepared, in addition to the game system - in order for it to work properly - you also need to buy a memory card - it won't save game progress unless you have the card. Check Best Buy as they sometimes have the older bundles for much less than anywhere else and will sometimes take a coupon on them. I got DS' the Rock Band bundle at best buy last year for $140 + tax (game, movie, memory card and system) - $60 less than anywhere else.

I've picked up a lot of cheap games and movies for the PSP (not the go) at GameStop. I've been there multiple times where they were selling for $5. Target also clearances them out and I've picked them up there for $5-10. Toys R Us also has a good selection and they can be picked up when they run video game specials. More pricy but I do check them when I am there.

I don't believe I saw any mention of the fact that it can also be used to browse the internet.

they have a bundle right now that has a camera with it. My boys went the way of PSP instead of DS. About the same cost and the games are the same cost too. I don't have any complaints. It is their big x-mas gift.

I actually work at a company affiliated with Sony, and I can tell you that you wouldn't be missing out if you were to purchase the PSP. There are over 500 games available for the PSP (over 300 of which can be bought as digital downloads through the PlayStation Network store, which means no cartridges or disks to keep track of). While they vary in price, you can download some of the most popular "PSP Favorites" for just $9.99.

I would recommend checking out the "Invizimals" bundle pack... it's a "battle monster" type game that includes a camera which makes it look like these creatures are right in front of you. Of course, there are plenty of other bundles that you can look at to see what would best suit his interests. I hope that helps!

DD is 15 and likes the PSP over her DSi. But, I think she uses it more for internet than the games! ;) PSP game quality is better than the DS, but I think for a 10 year old, the games on the DS are more appropriate, PSP games are a little more "mature".

I have a 16 year old and a 14 year old that have both PSP and DI. The older one has an ipod touch and that's all he uses. The 14 year old only plays on the DS. They both say the PSP is good for watching movies, but if it's just for gaming, I would get a DSi (or whatever they are called now).

PSP games are a little more "mature".

I would suggest checking out LocoRoco 2 and Patapon 2... both are rated "E," both have received almost universal praise on gaming sites like IGN and GameSpot, and they're both just $9.99 in the PlayStation Network store. If racing is more his style, check out the "E" rated ModNation Racers. LEGO Harry Potter and LEGO Batman are also some popular titles rated "E (10+)"

Hope that helps!
