Okay...I just need to make sure I'm thinking clear on this. This is what people get charged for calling the ship right??? I have a family member that is ailing and if she happens to pass away while we are gone I'd like to be able to be gotten ahold of so this will be very beneficial to give to my dad. But I want to forwarn him.....WOW

The info I just received from DCL states that the rates are from $7.50 to $9.50 per minute.

As Dave's site also mentions....the cheaper alternative can be to use the internet cafe onboard. That is what we always do to stay in touch with friends and family back home.

mmouse37 just emailed me to mention that she was quoting from her documentation. My quote of $6.95 was based on the recorded greeting you get when you call the 888-DC-AT-SEA #. Maybe they are planning on raising their rates in the near future.

When you call shore to ship you are required to give a credit card number before your call will be placed to the ship.
Much better to pay the 75¢ per minute at the internet cafe to check your email.
You can always buy a phone card at any of the ports of call and call home.

Last February we received a "ship to shore" emergency call from my DM about our 21 yr. old son (hospitalized in coma) - the DCL was wonderful about reaching us and then asking if there was anything at all that they could do. Just marvelous people. Hence our great appreciation for our server, Roger C. from Brazil, and others including DVC's representative Carol Ann D.

When there is an emergency, there is no thought of the cost, only concern. But OUCH! it did bit us bit when we got our statement!!!!
