What's on your holiday appetizer table?

With Thanksgiving only a week and half away, I'm trying to figure out different appetizers to have. There's not a huge crowd this year (6 adults, 3 teen age boys) Here's what we have planned....

spinach dip in a bread bowl
cheese/pepperoni/crackers
probably a pickle/olive tray

What else do you guys put out for little tidbits before the big bird?

We always have Thanksgiving dinner out, but I do have Christmas at my house for the family. We always have the same buffet style foods. I tried to change things one year and my kids/grandkids didn't want me to, so we have the same stuff every year.

I do a couple trays of "toothpick thingies" that everyone loves.

1) Chunk pineapple (bottom), mandarin orange segment (middle) and top it with a maraschino cherry. Spear with fancy toothpicks.

2) Small piece of hickory stick meat (bottom), chunk of Havarti cheese (middle) and topped off with a small chunk of sweet gherkin type pickle. Spear with fancy toothpicks.

Stuffed mushrooms and usually some sort of shaped cheese ball. For some reason I now feel the need to make cheese balls in holiday themes. Snowman at Christmas, turkey at Thanksgiving, Mummy at Halloween....nobody even especially likes cheese balls around here. I think I need a cheese ball intervention!

Good idea on the "toothpick thingies" LOL I like the sound of the meat/cheese/pickle one. MMM

LOL on the cheese ball intervention.

I have made the snowman cheeseball...now I must see the turkey cheese ball! Please share a photo or instructions!

We always have hummus with veggies and pita triangles. Sometimes, I make reuben dip in the crock pot to serve with small pieces of rye bread. And no holiday is complete without the cheese platter!

Some things we do are....

Chicken Livers pate with crackers
Mozzarella sticks
Mini Pizzas (for the kiddos)
Shrimp
Brie and other kids of cheese with crackers
Potato chips with onion dip
Bruchetta
Crab dip in a bread bowl
Thai mini chicken legs / wings - SO YUMMY
Nuts

Yeah, were never hungry for the actual dinner, yet we keep doing it year after year.

I bet you're not hungry after this feast. But I would be right at the dinner table also eating up the T-day dinner, no matter how full. LOL

I totally forgot about the shrimp. Any more ideas?

I always do hot mulled apple cider and pumpkin loaf for Thanksgiving. This year I'm also doing a veggie & hummus platter, a cheese platter (w/ brie, cheddar, grapes & crackers) and a fall themed salad.

In the past, I've had spinach/artichoke dip, cheddar cheese fondue, swedish meatballs, veggies w/ french onion dip... hmmm, that's all I can think of right now, but I'm sure there are more... lol.

Happy Turkey Day! :goodvibes

I know I got the Turkey Cheese ball recipe and instructions at www.tasteofhome.com. I did a quick search and didn't see it, but I when I get home this afternoon I will post a pic and the recipe if you aren't able to find it on their site.

Yay! Cheesballers unite!!!

I found the Turkey Cheese Ball!!!!

Amazing! I'm making it! I hope I can find everything I need!

We don't have anything in particular. I guess we always have pickles and olives and sometimes fruit for the kiddos. It will be fun to do something new! The feast is always so massive, that I never really focused on appetizers.

I'd love to give it to you, but its my moms recipe, not mine. I make a wing with hoisen sauce and orange marmalade (also great on shrimp) that is to die for. You can also put some soy sause in there if you want a little thinner sauce for dipping or something.

We usually put out kind of a "make your own appetizer" setup. We have trays of black and green olives, grape or cherry tomatoes, slices of cucumber, grapes, and chunks of pineapple and cheese with a variety of crackers and flavored cream cheeses. Sounds odd maybe but you can make some yummy combinations. A wheat cracker with pineapple cream cheese and a slice of cucumber is one of my favorites. We also do the lil' smokie sausages in bbq sauce (in a crockpot so they stay warm). I've also done a block of cream cheese with some sort of fruit preserves or jelly on top - makes another yummy spread for crackers. We've done pepper jelly and apricot/pineapple preserves and both were great.

On Christmas eve we have:

Sub sandwiches with ham and cheese
Summer sausage, sliced Colby cheese & crackers
Deviled eggs
Sausage with Rotel and cheese dip & Tostitos
Meatballs in slow cooker all day
Bacon & cream cheese bites
Shrimp
Cheese ball with crackers
Veggie tray
Huge assortment of homemade cookies

Appetizers are my favorite part of the meal! :goodvibes I always try something new, and I always, no matter what, have a cheese and cracker platter.

The platter: Smoked gouda, jarlsberg, sharp cheddar, a seafood spread, an herb and a garlic cheese spread. Assorted crackers and big red grapes.

Feta phyllo wraps- (my new addition this year) I already made and froze them, they will just need to be heated up.
'Crabbies'- guests like these, very simple to make.
Bruschetta (college kids request) with crostini

Cashews, peanuts, goldfish

No wonder I never get to the pie on Thanksgiving! :guilty:

The one at home usually includes:
Sausage Balls
Cherry Salad
Cheese ball with ritz crackers
hershey kisses

Christmas Appetizers~

clam dip
shrimp cocktail
hot artichoke dip
wet mozzerella & fresh basil
cheese plate
mini meatballs
antipasto platter (salami, olives, roasted peppers, marinated artichoke hearts, etc.)
stuffed mushrooms
sausage bread

and then dinner & a dessert buffet:rolleyes1

I am always torn as to what to serve as Thanksgiving appetizers since I want everyone to eat the meal. Last year I did a cheese fondue that everyone loved along with shrimp cocktail and mini crab cakes.

This year I asked my niece, who has celiacs, if there was anything special that she wanted and she said shrimp scampi so I will do that for her. So, the appetizers will be:

shrimp scampi and crusty bread to dip
crab cakes
antipasto platter
chips and onion dip

and lots of my brother in laws homemade wine!!!
