What's on Your Christmas List?

I think what I want most of Christmas is a good, cheap, trustworthy financial advisor.

This is kind of like picking a tripod, you get to choose 2 of the 3 options, the 3rd falls where it may...

Welcome to the forum, PM. I have to confess that I'm completely ignorant about Polaroids and don't even know what a Lubitel or Seagull TLR is.

Thanks, Mark! A Seagull is a medium format camera with twin lenses, made in China (the Lubitels are Russian). Manual; you hold it at waist level and look through the viewfinder to take the pictures.

Honestly, they're both not the greatest cameras, and I'm also looking into Yashicas, but I really like the way the pictures look.

Many moon ago, YEKCIM had a Yashicamat 124G TLR. I found it very awkward to use and the images were not any better than my 35mm Fujica's were capable of, even with the much larger film format. Mrs YEKCIM has a pair of Pentax 645's and a bagful of lenses. They are fantastic cameras, but of course, are film, so they are just sitting in the closet. Apparently not worth much on eBay, either...

Well, I cheated and I'm getting my present a little early this year. My Canon 24-70L f/2.8 lens should be here next week! :goodvibes

You will love this lens.... I probably use it 75% of the time..

That will be on my wish list for next year's Christmas. Assuming of course that all banks don't go bankrupt in '08 and I still have a job. :confused3

I don't think I'll be getting anything photography related for this holiday season. We are going to WDW in less than 2 weeks so I guess the pics I take of the holiday decor down there will be part of my present this year.

Although I do need a new tripod. So any money I get from my folks will go towards the purchase of said new tripod. Thats about as close as I get.

Since DW has been out of work and instead raising our little ones, we have had a low financial limit on presents for birthdays, our anniversary and x-mas.

Though next year things will change and I'll be looking at getting something new, either a nice big new lens or a nice big new BBQ Smoker. In the end I think the smoker will be less expensive, though I could easily spend a few grand on that purchase too, but thats for competition grade pits.

50 mm f/1.8 lens
slingshot 200
gorilla pod
remote shutter release

Well, Sigma's 55-200mm F4-5.6 DC HSM has some appeal as a walk-around lense option. Anyone have any experience with it? It's pretty inexpensive. A little on the low end, but looks interesting.

Actually, old school would be fun too - I'd love to get a halfway decent medium format setup but am unlikely to actually put any money into such a venture on my own any time soon. Or, heck, even a decent rangefinder. I got a Yashica rangefinder for free but it's hopelessly broken. A friend's husband was over to our house for a party last Christmas and saw the pile of cameras and mentioned how he used to be really into it and had a Leica sitting around... I suggested that if he ever wants it to go to a good home, to keep me in mind. :teeth:

Light room

New PC - kinda photography related as I really am wanting it because this one is old and DOG SLOW.

I am kinda hoping for CS3 and that "big white lens" - but well :confused3 it all depends on how good I have been this past year. :scared:

My wife is buying me the Olympus E-510 14-42mm-40-150mm and another lens. Can't make my mind up on the 18-180 mm f3.5/6.3 Zuiko Digital Ultra Zoom or the 14-54 mm f2.8/3.5 Zuiko Digital Wide-angle Zoom Lens. I need help deciding on what lens. Can anyone help me with my choice?Please.:confused3

Why get the "kit" 14-42mm if you're planning on another zoom lens that covers the same?

Out of the two other ones you mention, I'd go with the 14-54mm for the extra light gathering ability, but I am no authority on Olympus lenses so maybe the other one is actually a better choice... :confused3

My list includes:

circular polarizer
new canon pro neck strap
2 gig CF card
Remote shutter release

See if you can get the kit without the 14-42 and then get the 14-54. You may have to buy the body only then the 40-150 and 14-54.

Congratulations. The ZD35 is an amazing lens for the price although it's f/3.5. It's very sharp and light.
