I'm torn, I really don't want to cook but will it be Thanksgiving without Turkey, gravy, and sweet potatoes??

If I cook it will be:
Turkey (me)
Sweet potatoes (me)
bread stuffing (mom)
mashed potatoes (mom)
green bean casserole (me)
cranberry relish (mom)
and pumpkin pie (mom)

if not:
I haven't got a clue..........

Well since it is just 5 of us:

Turkey Breast (Dh on Grill)
Green Beans (me or Mom)
Mashed Potatoes (Dad will peel, mom or I will put together)
Homemade Butter (DH)
Rolls (pilsbury- mom or I to heat)
Cranberry Sauce (canned- someone will open)
Pie- Lemon Merrengue and apple- (mom)
Cornbread- (me)
Gravy - mom
stuffing- maybe- (mom)

We never have Thanksgiving dinner at our house, it would break traditions, and I don't have room for all of DH's family!

DH has to work 24 hours that day this year, but the boys & I will go to my aunt's house in the morning, and I'll help her with whatever she needs. She usually has:
Turkey
Mashed potatoes
sweet potatoes
cranberry stuff (for my grandpa)
green bean casserole
dressing
rolls
pumpkin pie & cherry pie (for grandpa) for dessert

If I want to (andI probably won't), we may go to the IL's for dinner that evening. It sounds bad not to go, but it's a madhouse, and we have dinner with all of them every Sunday, so it's not like we don't see them! I'll help there too, if needed. DH's parents, his mom's sister, and his grandma all live next door to each other, and they will have all 3 ovens and stoves going most of the day. We're talking probably 40 people by the time it's all said and done!

Personally, I like last year's the best.....we were at Boma, just the 4 of us!

From Cracker Barrel -
Enjoy our turkey breast
with made-from-scratch cornbread dressing
and topped with turkey gravy.
Served with a sampling of baked sugar-cured ham,
sweet potato casserole with caramel pecan topping,
cranberry relish, your choice of a vegetable
and fresh biscuits or corn muffins,
plus our very own Pumpkin Pecan Streusel Pie with real whipped cream
and a beverage (excluding milkshakes)

I think I want to go to Cracker Barrel for Turkey Day! We usually go to the IL's, my FIL orders the whole she-bang from Stop & Shop. DH goes over early to help heat things up.

we are doing my sisters this year and truthfully i want to skip the whole day.
then dh's parents house that night.
dh will eat again. i'll just have pie!

I'm making two Thanksgiving dinners this year. One is on Thanksgiving Day. It will be for about 30 people. My biggest stress is that I do not have seating for 30 people. It really bothers me, though no one else seems to care.

We will be having:
Turkey
Stuffing
Mashed potatoes
Sweet potatoes
Squash
creamed onions
turnip (frozen because out of the 30 people I'm the only one who eats it)
green beans
dinner rolls
Canned cranberry sauce - both jellied and whole berry. I used to make fresh, but again, I was the only one who ate it. Everyone else ate the canned.

For desserts, I make:
Cheesecake
chocolate cake
cream puffs

others bring
Apple Pie
Cherry Pie
chocolate cream pie
flan
cookies.

My second Thanksgiving dinner will be in Florida in December with a friend of mine who doesn't generally have a traditional Thanksgiving dinner. So after a few days in WDW, I will be going to his place and making: for TWO :rotfl2:
Turkey
Stuffing
mashed potatoes
sweet potatoes
squash
carrots
green beans
peas
corn
cranberry sauce
dinner rolls

Dessert???
I think of apple pie as being the most traditional but I really don't make a good apple pie so that's still up in the air.

We are having mac and cheese. :rotfl2: Well, maybe not but we aren't having a full fledge dinner this year either.

Typically we have my Mom and her husband over for Thanksgiving. Mom does the turkey and I do everything else. But this year as last year, they've been invited over to my SIL's parents house (we were too but it is just too much for DD so we just go over for dessert) Last year, it was just a relief not to have to do a big dinner; DH just had shoulder surgery and DD was just discharged from a lengthy hospital stay. I was thrilled the invite came again this year, I even offered to prepare my grandmother's home made cranberry sauce (DB LOVES this and I am his favorite sister for the day :rotfl2: )

So I am not sure what I will be cooking that day but I sure am thankful it won't be a big meal. :worship:

Thursday evening I am planning a trip to M's with some friends. BAMB, you and MomK want to go?

I don't know

I willbe making the turkey here and bringing it to mil's (Don't ask) and a pumpkin cheesecake

My sil is bring cranberry sauce and cidar and an apple pie.

My mil is making stuffing..

As for the rest I have not heard from any of the other sisters so I don't know.

I guess we will figure it out next week.

Dessert???
I think of apple pie as being the most traditional but I really don't make a good apple pie so that's still up in the air.

How about an apple cobbler or dump cake- not nearly as hard but similar in taste to an apple pie?

I would love to try to make a turkey roulade like this
turkeyroulade.jpg

but not having the traditional turkey and stuffing on the day will send DH in a tizzy... Sooooooooo....

Roasted turkey with dressing... the last 2 years I used doctored up stove top and it was a hit :ssst:
Homemade gravy
DH will make his mashed sweets
Greenbean Casserole for DH
Holly's Broccoli Casserole for DS21's way to cute DGF and me :teeth:
Cranberry sauce
Dinner rolls
Pumpkin Pie with homemade whipped cream

Maybe I'll do the roulade for Christmas along with the ham

oh YUMMY!!!!

it's so not thanksgiving w/out that!
i told my niece that i was making that for my sisters and she was like.....
well duh! it is thanksgiving isn't it?! i knew you'd be making that!

i love it!

There will be just the 5 of us here.... :)
Mom is going to be packing for her and Dad's vacation to TX, TN, KY and where ever else they venture! So my sis is cooking for them... LOL That should be fun!

The older boys will be w/ their mom as always... it's her visitation weekend so they are also going to head out to spend the weekend w/ her sister down state... Boys aren't happy but we support them going to visit!!!

We are having: ( I cook for an army on big holidays so we eat for days afterwards on the one meal!)
Turkey (big ol' one)
Mash Potatoes
Dinner rolls
corn
homemade stringbean casserole (my daddy's recipe)
cherry cheesecake (damn! I forgot the canned cheeries at the store, good thing I go back today)
veggie tray w/ dip (I cut them all fresh myself)
cheese and cracker tray
mac -n- cheese homemade (not the box this time around)
possibly some cookies I'll let the kids make in the evening

Over the next few days: we reheat it, make turkey casserole or turkey potpie
My family laughs at me because I way over cook on the holidays!

I overcook to for the day...but the family would be  if there weren't enough left overs...

:rotfl2: My family is just the opposite. They really dislike leftovers. I think that is a DH's family tradition. To not like leftovers. My family lived on leftovers. What would we eat Friday if there weren't any? Cereal.:lmao:

I always cook way too much food, but I'm trying to keep it small this year because there will only be 4 of us (me, DH, and our neighbors). I'm excited because we just bought all new cookware last week and this will be its first major test!

Appetizers:
Relish Tray - pickles, olives, etc.
Cheese and Crackers
Stuffed Mushrooms (maybe)

Dinner:
Turkey (brined the day before)
Garlic Mashed Potatoes
Candied Yams
3 kinds of stuffing (I always do 3 kinds but each year I mix it up and do a couple different ones):
- Sage
- Apple-Bacon
- Mushroom
Steamed Green Beans
Steamed Yellow Squash
Buttered Carrots
Crescent Rolls (probably just doing the tube this year)
Cranberry-Jalapeno Sauce (made by our neighbor)
Gravy

Dessert:
Gooey Pumpkin Cake
Blueberry Pie (frozen blueberries we picked last Spring)
Chocolate Trifle

The Blueberry Pie is DH's absolute favorite. None of us like Apple Pie and I'm trying to get away from traditional Pumpkin Pie with the Gooey Cake but I might just buy a Pumpkin Pie or Sweet Potato Pie at the grocery store, not sure yet. The Trifle is easy to make and is in case the cake doesn't turn out

Ahem....calling TinkerBean! You haven't yet posted to this thread. So, what are you planning to feed us on Turkey Day? Flint's cookies and left-over baked brie? :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

Actually, TB "traditionally" does Boston Market for that day and we "traditionally" are invited over! Mr. TinkerBean goes out in the morning and picks up the order. The food is REALLY good and the easy prep allows us to enjoy the day with each other. We add easy/yummy/fun things in for appetizers and dessert, but the day is all about relaxing, letting the kids play together, playing silly games, and enjoying each other's company. :grouphug:
