What's my chance of getting great airfares for Jan. 2-7?

I'm checking daily through Expedia and Travelocity, plus the airlines websites, and so far nothing really great. I'm flying out of dfw and the lowest is around $254 rt. I see all these great deals for now through October; do you think there will be any for early January, or is it considered part of the holiday season? I'm getting a little nervous but don't want to buy too soon and pay too much.

I would just try to be patient. We are going in Jan, too. We're planning a trip for Jan BECAUSE of the great deals they usually run at that time of year. I have everything except the airfare booked already. I feel very confident that there will be some good deals coming up for that time. Try to sit back and wait it out, it looks as if the sales usually come out around 3 months in advance. If nothing fantastic pops up before Oct, don't be suprised.

Good luck with the waiting game...you won't be alone.;)

By the way, last year we flew for 106.50 r/t all taxes included! I won't pay more than 115.00.

I didn't remember posting this question on this board, TravelSheryl. Lighten up a little, OK? ;)
Jperry, thanks. I will try to wait it out! :D

Unfortunately, the person at one airline I spoke with said that we're so lucky (actually unlucky)-January is a big time for travel here. For the last two years I've gone to DW the first week in January and haven't found any discounts from Texas. $254 is less than I've gotten. Continental is the least expensive I've found (even cheaper than Southwest with their reputation for being cheapest).

Actually, January can be the cheapest time to fly to Orlando, just not around the holidays. I'm sure a lot of people remember all those $99 roundtrips in January of this year.

I booked a flight thru American Airlines (have a $500 travel voucher to use) from Chicago to Orlando for Jan 2-10th. One week I called they told me $212 a person. Thought I could get cheaper so I waited. The following week I called it was $318 a person. Waited another week up to $378 a person. Called one more time and got $210 a person, so I bought them. I check once a week and I have the lowest fare available. I have to plan my things well in advance for my sanity!

The last two years we have flown to WDW right after New Year's Day. We had the same experience as you. We had to wait quite a long time for the airfares to drop, but they did. I think there is a very high probability that the discounts you are seeing for October will be available for early January. I am currently shopping for an airfare to Cancun for the first week of January. I doubt I'll find a really good one for at least a couple of months.

Hang in there! You have plenty of time!
