I better finish the 2006 recap because the trip will be here soon!!

So so far, we've had 4 full days of very hot, as expected, and pretty empty parks, surprisingly! Well that was all about to change!

The morning of Sunday, August 13, we woke up early because we wanted to get to the park for rope drop to do fantasyland rides. Now as any good DISer does, I knew the EMH schedule and MK had a regular 9am opening. Imagine my surprise when we got to the park around 8:30 and they told us we could go in! Apparently, they were doing this "Magical Beginnings" thing that they didn't really advertise at all. It was like AM EMH but only fantasyland was open and really it was supposed to be for little kids but I guess because not a lot of people know about it, they told us to go right in!

It was literally empty and we were able to get so much done in Fantasyland, it was really fun! We call this morning "The Calm Before the Storm!"

They had walk around characters but they weren't really posing for pictures. Just kind of playing and dancing around. This made some moms VERY unhappy! But we thought it was fun!

By the time we were done with Fantasyland, the rest of the park had opened up!

This was the first time we saw the Pirate Toutorial...tell me this guys was not the PERFECT Jack Sparrow! So much so that they used this picture that I posted as the featured picture on wdwinfo.com!

As we were leaving, we noticed an odd sign....

...and then I remember...FREE DINING STARTED TODAY!!!!

BUM BUM BUMMMMMMM!!!!!!

I love the way your custom shirts came out!! I can't wait to see the pictures!! That is the strangest restaurant sign---I don't get it :confused3

That was the same Jack Sparrow I saw when I first saw the Pirate tutorial. He was SPOT ON! The others I've seen (at Disney and Castaway Cay) played the part perfect but didn't look as good as this guy.

And oh no, is free dining time really that bad???? We're going 9/18 during free dining and while we used the 40% off (much better deal for staying at the Poly than free dining), we are purchasing the dining package and it was really hard to get ADRs but I think we did ok (except for that darned Le Cellier!!!)

I think it was just that it started THAT DAY! Everyone that would have arrived a few days earlier most likely pushed back their trip to the 13th so they would get free dining. THAT is why it was sooo unusually empty the days before. And remember it was still summer...a lot of school still not back in session yet. I'm sure it won't be nearly as bad in September.

Yup DH and I were silly enough to arrive on the first day of free dining last August... we were in line for ME for over an hour! We could barely move in the parks it was soooo crowded :headache:

Anyway, keep 'em coming! popcorn::

Oh my gosh, that stinks! When you get to the airport...it's like you're so close and to have to wait an hour! Oh God, now I'm worried there is going to be a long wait when we arrive on the 1st because it's such a busy time!! Hmm, I wonder how many people's flights arrive at 8:55am though......

Awesome photos :thumbsup2 Dontcha just love empty park pics :)

Katy,

We did the same thing last year!:scared1: Call me crazy, but we will probably do it again in 2011! It was pretty crowded, but the FD is such a great deal for us. We have essentially 4 adults. :) We can't decide between late June/early July with the possibility of a pin code or August again, with the crowds, in the hopes of FD?:confused3 HELP!!!

Your trip was a great one! I'm anxiously watching your ticker go down, because mine is right behind yours! :cool1:

I think as long as you have your ADRs you're set. Free Dining only had crowds in the restaurants, it seemed. When we did it a few years ago most rides were walk-ons and the parks were not at all crowded, but the restaurants were usually full.
