What's Missing at AKV

I love my home resort AKV; however, there is something about this resort I realized I was missing on this past trip. A walking trail! In the past few years, I have discovered that I love walking. I average about 1.5-2 miles/day during the school year and over 3 miles/day when I'm off in the summers. I prefer to walk for exercise rather than use a fitness center. The lack of a walking trail became much more obvious since our last trip was a split stay between AKV and CCV where I walked to Ft. Wilderness and loved the atmosphere! It made me wish AKV had a walking trail surrounded by the greenery they have out front of Jambo House. Something like the Pangani Forest Exploration Trail at AK. I know I can walk between Jambo and Kidani, but that doesn't have that atmosphere! I guess I'm starting to visualize my trips once I retire in 2 1/2 years. My plan is to do a week at AKV and 5-7 nights at BRV each year. We want our trips to be more relaxing, enjoying the resorts and maybe going into a park for a couple of hours each day. I worry that I won't be motivated to get my exercise while I'm at AKV since it's missing a nice place to walk. Anyone else miss that at AKV?

I miss that too. Love to walk. Hate the gym. I do the Jambo-Kidani look, but you’re right, it’s not the same. Too short for starters. I love the Boardwalk area for the ability to walk all over.

Personally, we feel we do so much walking I can't imagine seeking out additional walking, Having said that, I hear what you're saying for your circumstance.

I don't think they have any incentive to do something like that at AKV unless they were to make a pathway to AK. BW has the pathways because they want to get you into Epcot or HS for the $$$. Fort Wilderness is so large to accommodate all the campers.

Just researched this more and realized that AKV is the ONLY resort on Disney property that does not have a walking/jogging/running trail. This includes the value resorts. I just find this unacceptable. I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels this way. I'm sure there are more walkers/runners who would like to stay at AKV and get their usual exercise. I would love to express my concern to Disney but not sure where. But I just can't imagine I would be the only one with this complaint.

When I'm at WDW, I get plenty of walking in and don't look for additional walking trails. On average, 15K - 20K steps a day. That's good enough for me.

You could always go over to one of the other resorts and do their trails. I know it's not the same and it does stink that you own there if that is a key part of your vacation.

I know a lot of people walk a lot at Disney. But I know there are a lot of people (especially DVC) that go there to relax and only go into the parks a couple hours each day. Walking/Running are a part of their everyday routine. So it would make sense they would want to do it at Disney when they aren't in the parks. I just don't understand why every single resort has a trail except AKV.

I also love walking (just did 10 miles this morning) and think lack of awalkiing/ running trail is a bad omission here.

Sounds like it's time for you to sell your AK contract and buy at another resort. Or you could just quit using the busses and walk to the park of your choice for the day.

If you follow the roads between Animal Kingdom, Jambo, and Kidani, you will notice that you cross a lot of swampy areas. My guess is that this is why there is no trail.

I just think that if they can build two resorts, pools, savannas, etc. in this area, they can build a walking trail. I'm sure they could easily add one over by the Kidani pool area.

I love AKV, so I don't want to sell. I want to be able to enjoy the resort in another way though. And I would gladly walk to the parks if there were walking trails to them!

It's probably not going to happen no matter how hard you wish. There isn't any financial return on building this and only safety issues to be concerned about.

I understand the financial aspect, but what do you mean by safety issues?

Animals live in swamps. If Disney intentionally builds a walking trail and people walk on it, there are opening themselves up to liability if a poisonous snake bites someone or an alligator snatches their dog, or something else along those lines. People are lawsuit happy and many would be looking for a chance to sue.

Think of all the Bug repellent you'll need need to lather on as well... Especially down in those weeded areas around Kidani pool...

I hear what you're saying DSW, anu it actually made me think , the same way you did.. The walk from Kidani to Jambo, is so mundane!!! Blagh!!!:crazy2:

These animals are everywhere on Disney property, not just at AKV. I just stayed at CCV, and there are swamps all around the cabins. Disney has built a boardwalk throughout the area with fencing around the swampy areas. Why couldn't they do that at AKV? I just don't get this line of thinking.

Because at this point there is no financial benefit to it. I'm sure it is wholly possible to make a trail and make it 100% safe, but why would they want to spend money doing it?

Also, after doing some further looking, I noticed that all of the other walking paths connect one hotel to another, splitting the cost between the different resorts. AKV is too far from any other resorts to be connected to them.
