The company that I work for just changed the caferteria service company. This morning, instead of just oatmeal they also were serving Maypo. I said aloud, "oh look, they have Maypo". Everyone that was my age knew right away what Maypo was and welcomed the new hot cereal. Everyone else (those younger) said, "What's Maypo? Is this really a hot cereal that can date you? You can still buy it in the grocery store. I have had it at home.

It must "date you," because I thought you were really asking and I was going to chime in here and answer!

Haven't had it since I was a kid though - in the 60's. Used to like it.

Yummy!

I would have had no idea what Maypo was. I looked at the title of the thread and wanted to know what you were talking about. I never would have known that you were referring to a brand of oatmeal (I'm 21, by the way).

I remember when the commercials cried that phrase! I WANT MY MAYPO! Boy, does that bring back memories. (I'm 51, by the way)...

You are my age, so far those under 35 seemed to be stumped.

MMMMMMMMM Maypo!

I'm 36 and know what it is . . .my mom always used to have Maypo and Farina too . . .it was very nummy on cold winter mornings . . . :D

Unfortunately, my 2 kids never got the hang of eating hot cereal . .DD 14 thinks its gross but DS 10 will eat oatmeal, forget trying to buy Cream of Wheat . . .or anything else for that matter. :o

Dan!!! Coco Wheats!!!! I'd forgotten all about those! I loved those too! (I'm 42, by the way.)

In the winter, we had hot cereal every morning. Coco Wheats, Maypo, Oatmeal, and my favorite - Cream of Wheat!

Oh YUM, both Maypo and CocoWheats......

It's been a while since I've had either though.

I'm 38 and used to eat it all the time as a kid

I am younger than 35 and know Maypo. Yum Yum! I haven't had it in ages though.

Y U C K ........good grief I didn't like it then and the name just gave me shivers.......Now Oatmeal I could handle......but it had to be the one that cooked on the stove for a bit........especially if we were camping out........put a big iron pot over the fire and cook it there.......

It might be regional as well as age. I grew up in Indiana, and we didn't have it there (I'm 39). We had coco wheats, oatmeal and cream of wheat (or rice). It seems like it must have been more available on the east coast. I did see the I want my maypo commercial on food network, so I recognized the quote.

Our neighbors have it, and my DD tried it while spending the night with her friend. She made me buy some, which she ate one time only. I think I finally threw it out.

Doing the low carb approach to weight loss, the most missed item for me I think is my cereal. I could eat cereal 3 meals a day, always for breakfast. And I really enjoyed hot cereals, most recently, for several years, grits, once our Georgia DIS'er, Snuggles, tauhgt me the 'correct' way of eating grits, butter and maybe cheese, not brown sugar and cream, like oatmeal, LOL.

I have tried some of the low carb cereals available, I find them all terible except one RhondsS put me on to, from LowCarb Success. http://www.lowcarbsuccess.org/granola.htm

I miss my grits.

i'm 25 and have never heard of it. we always had quaker oats.

I am 28 and I am from Indiana...never heard of it. I don't know if it is an Indiana thing or an age thing though. I read the thread because I was curious what it was. ;)

I turn 35 in a couple weeks and never heard of Maypo before this thread. Any hints on what it really is (corn, oats, wheat, rice, barley) and why it is good (sweetened, flavored?)?

Thx
Peggy

Put me in the category of have not heard of it, but then again I have never eaten any hot cereals so I would not have seen it in my house.

My wife has occassionally eaten Cream of Wheat, but I've always thought thats what grits were for. :p

GRITS........eeeeeeeeeeeewwwwwwwwwww (insert scrunched up nose smilie here!!!! )

I want my Maypo!!!

and my Farina!!!!

and I'm *slightly* less than 35 and know what they are!!!!
