Hunchback and Doug gone without replacements and now Mermaid is in rehab AGAIN. The same time it was last year...something smells fishy. Maybe Mermaid will become seasonal like COP?? I have to say last year we were very disapointed in our favorite park MGM and I was hoping by this Jan there would be new shows replacing those that they booted. MGM is now a "half" day park for us. Sorry had to vent.......

You do not have to apologize for expressing your opinions.. Hopefully Disney will come up with some new shows and soon.. I do like MGM too but it is a quick visit for us as well...

Hopefully Disney will again remember that the more time we spend in a park, the more money we will be spending there. As it is,,,I only spend 1/2 day at AK. I usually only buy a few cookies there. Now it looks like MGM is going to be the same. Hope that by the time we get there in Aug it is once again a whole day park.

I was also disappointed when they cancelled Doug. Was Who wants to be a millionaire there when you were last? We enjoyed that alot, tho it's not the same as the cute shows you mentioned.

What's left? RnR, ToT, Star Tours, MuppetVision, Indy, Backlot Tour & Millionaire to name a few.

Mermaid is not going to seasonal at all...it's down for what is turning out to be, an annual rehab(it went down last year as well).

Albeit, it is true that HoND & Doug(and subsequently Get Happy...With ABC) have closed with no replacements in sight, eventually I'm sure we'll see something come in. If anything, MGM is the most updated park of them all. ToT has been updated nearly a half dozen times, the ABC Theater has had 3 shows in the course of a few years & Millionaire, One Man's Dream have been added.

As for it being a half day park, until recently it had always been a 1/2 - 3/4 day park so dropping two shows, which ran only a few times, isnt that big of a change. I liked them just as much as the next guy, but I'm sure whatever they bring in next will be great as well.

Just wanted to ask about "One Man's Dream". Isn't that going to be leaving soon too? I was hoping it would be a permanent attraction, but I thought they said it had to end when the 100 Years Celebration ends because some of the stuff was on loan and had to be returned.

"whatever they bring in"....is the problem, Doug Live has been gone for a long time and nothing (the ABC "commercial" that ran there briefly doesn't count) has replaced it. Any idea what will go into the Hunchback location?

ARRG! I was about to write all the reasons why I thought MGM was a fantastic park, but just more full of visions that rides. Then I read the above. Is this a fact? We spent two hours in One Man's Dream last time. To me, MGM, while short on thrill rides and shows right now, is perhaps the best park from a vision standpoint, and has some of the neatest theme restaurants. One Man's Dream was an excellent addition. And it's leaving? Say it ain't so.....

All attractions have to go down for rehab during someones vacation... and Disney does try to do this during the less crowded times. Unlike some theme parks that close the end of Oct. and reopen the end of March, Disney doesn't have the luxury of downtime to repair and refurbish its attractions, hence, someone is going to be disappointed that a certain attraction will not be open during their stay.

At MGM, you can still enjoy Beauty and the Beast, ToT, RnR, the Great Movie Ride, Star Tours, Indiana Jones, the Backlot Tour, the Animation Tour, One Man's Dream, Honey, I Shrunk the Kids Movie Set Adventure, Muppet Vision 3D, Playhouse Disney, Sounds Dangerous, and Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, Play It.

Maybe they will be bringing in the Aladdin show that they have just opened in DL to replace Hunchback? As for Doug, never saw it... so I never missed it.

MGM still has great things to offer.. don't give up... it will just give you more time to see and do other things you may not have had time to do or see in the past.

You have to think of it this way. Voyage of the Little Mermaid has been there for over ten years. It never went down for rehab before last year. I was a performer there in 2001 when they told us the stage was going to be under rehab twice. Over ten years of dust, mold, and rotting stage (from the rain curtains and the misters) would take quite a while to fix. They also changed the show a bit last year. I guess the way they look at it is they could have closed the show for six months last year, or they could break it up over two years.

I have read reports somewhere that One Man's Dream is staying. Hopefully there is someone out there that can provide more information. We missed it on our visit last year so I am hoping it will still be there when we return in June.

Here's hoping you heard correctly. It's an incredible display. The movie's neat, but the artifacts are priceless. If it's there in June, don't pass it by!

If anyone has definative news on this, it would be appreciated.

MGM was always my favorite park, but I agree that its value has been steadily declining. For example, when I was there last May, they shut down most of the attractions (and a lot of the shops and take-out eateries) 1 to 1.5 hours before advertised closing time. It was bad enough that the park wasn't actually open during Fantasmic (we knew about that), but this additional 'quiet' reduction in the park's actual operating hours was a real disappointment to people who had come for the evening, particularly those who did not intend to stand in line for an hour at Fantasmic. I have my own cynical theories about why Disney did this (which I will spare you), but the bottom line is that MGM was not really worth the ticket price -- at least last May. Hopefully they have stopped the early shutdown since then.

Tick-Tock, I agree with you about the early shut down. We just left the afternoon parade and were running to catch the Little Mermaid show and they shut the doors in our face and said no more. It was the last show of the day. We walked around for a little while and there were no more shows before Fantasmic. I asked an employee for suggestions on something to do with our 2 and 4 year olds and there was nothing running at the time. Not even the playground. I am sure this is an excellent time to drop $75 to $100 on dinner at one of their restaurants, but we had just had our character lunch that afternoon and were quite full. We just went ahead and waited in line and sat down for fantasmic while the two year old terrorized everyone around us.

On the previous visit, we checked our brochure with the hours for the month and it said there was going to be a fantasmic at 10:00 or something. We came late that evening for it and found out they changed the hours for the day. No one who worked there knew anything about that. It was in print on the calendar they gave us that day, too.

I find it to be a half day/half assed park, myself. The stuff they do is excellent. It what they don't do that will keep me away.

To the best of my knowledge. they are keeping One Man's Dream for awhile yet. Many of us heard it was leaving and sent off many emails to Disney. We felt that they brought back EE so maybe it would work again. I actually got a call from Disney acknowledging my email about my concern that they were taking this attraction away. Well, about a week later it was announced that it was staying, I believe someone said, until fiscal year '05. All I know is that it will still be there in Aug for me to finally see!!! Thanks Disney!!! And thanks for bringing back EE.

I'm going to have to disagree with you guys on this one. We were in WDW the last week in October '02 and spent a day at MGM and didn't get to see/do everything. We got there for EE and stayed through Fantasmic. We did RnR, ToT, GMR, Muppets, Star Tours, Indy, B & B, Mermaids, One Man's Dream, and I think that's all. I've yet to see Backlot Tour, Animation Tour, HISTK playground, Millionare, Sounds Dangerous..... We stopped twice for meals, a quick pizza at Toy Story and our dinner at Prime Time wasn't long at all. Oh, it was two adults and one 8 year old, so it wasn't like we were busy changing diapers or anything....my DGD8 can keep up.

This was only our second time at MGM. We spent a half day there on a short trip in 2001 because I'd heard it was only a half day park and we didn't get to see hardly anything. I was determined to see it all this time and still didn't get to.

Maybe, I don't know, this is just a thought, but maybe most of you have been to MGM so many times, you tend to skip the things that you've seen many times, hit your favorites and find nothing left to do. Maybe, MGM needs new stuff that you haven't seen before. But for someone who hasn't yet seen it all, it's way more than a half day park and even more than a one day park for those of us who hasn't experienced it all yet. JMHO

I have never been able to see all of MGM in one day. First it has some of the best attractions in any of the parks (ToT, Fantasmic, Muppets, B&B, Little Mermaid, One Man's Dream, Animation, ect.), tons of entertainment like the Streetmosphere on Hollywood Bouolevard, tons of characters everywhere, a really fun parade, great restaurants, exhibits and movie artafacts...

Unless plans have changed again, One Man's Dream should remain open until sometime in 2005. The items on display will change as some do have to be returned. But the video at the end will be the same.

Thanks to the many DISers who emailed in to ask that it be extended. Don't put it off seeing it. Go at your next opportunity, and if you find it to be something special, don't be afraid to thank WDW for keeping it open.
